I wonder how they could possibly verify that the people responding actually owned the consoles. If this is anything like user reviews for games, then the majority would be scores of 1 or 10 from people who don't even own the product. That said, I'm surprised both scores are not lower.
The Wii was an anomaly. It became wildly popular among casuals and sold like crazy. The Wii U is selling pretty normally for a Nintendo console before the Wii. The GameCube only sold 22 million. Before that, the N64 sold 33 million. The Wii U will probably end up somewhere in that range if things keep going the way they have been. Nintendo could not recreate the magic of the original Wii fad.
Wow, only 800K for Gran Turismo 6? That is incredibly low. For comparison, GT5 sold 2.3 million in its first week:

And the PS3 install base has DOUBLED since then, from 40 million to over 80 million! Then again, the series seems to have been on a decline ever since GT3, both in sales and in critical acclaim.
PS3 fans used to tell me that 360 exclusives would sell more because 360 owners had less games to choose from, while PS3 owners had many exclusives dividing up the sales. So shouldn't that same logic apply now considering the Xbox One has quite a few more retail exclusives at launch than the PS4? I guess not.
That's what I love about the Forza games. While other developers try to pack in as much content as possible ending up with wildly inconsistent quality that casts a shadow over the whole experience, Turn 10 focuses on a somewhat smaller array of features, but with expert precision and unflinching quality.
It's this kind of focus and the unmatched and consistent production values that keeps Forza holding the title of highest rated racing sim. They may have gotten off to...
It's good he got a PS4 so he can play all his favorite games: NBA 2K14, Madden 25, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K15, Madden 15, FIFA 15, Call of Duty: Ghosts 2, and more!
There are only a couple of winners, including Most Anticipated Game, that are chosen by the viewers. The rest is chosen by their panel of "expert" game critics.
What does being multiplatform have to do with it? Both GTA V and TLOU had an equal chance at the award. The winner was not chosen by gamers, but by a panel of game critics who you would assume have played all these games. This was not a popularity contest or an online vote.
So happy for Rockstar. Very well deserved. There is simply no other game as ambitious as GTA V. Just the level of detail in the open world is mind-boggling. And the presentation values and level of polish are sky-high and consistent in every aspect of the game from the core gameplay mechanics to tiny side activities that many players won't even experience. From beginning to end, there is no game as consistently high quality. Rockstar outdid themselves yet again.
Forza 5 is not gimped for the sake of microtransactions. It's gimped because it's a launch game! It's being built for a brand new console. It's rushed! If it were releasing on the 360, it would be just as full a game as you could want it to be. And there would still be optional microtransactions.
Wannabe Pachter?
The PS4 broke the record for fastest-selling console launch. The Xbox One stole that record one week later. These numbers are through November 23, so they show 1 day of XB1 sales and 8 days of PS4 sales.
There is no possible way the PS4 has sold two times as much as the XB1 if they're at 2.1 million, considering the Xbox One sold more than half of that in its first day and is reported to have considerably outsold the PS4 at major retailers during Black Friday.

That probably has something to do with the critical acclaim it receives every time it's shown.

I was starting to think it would no longer make it by the end of the year. Glad to hear!
When the 360 launched, the Xbox brand had a very small fanbase compared to PlayStation which was completely dominating the industry with nearly 75% market share. Microsoft needed that head start desperately. The PS2 had outsold the Xbox by a 6 to 1 ratio. The head start definitely paid off along with all the mistakes Sony made with the PS3.
Over the course of one gen, Xbox went from being the complete underdog to being tied with their biggest competitor who had over a decade ...
You can't be serious...The PS4 has been out 2 weeks. The XB1 has been out 1 week.
What's the point of comparing sales at this point? Sony and Microsoft are both going to sell whatever they produce through the end of the year. It just comes down to supply. Next year we will see what the actual demand is for each console.
You must have missed this year's E3 where they showed nothing but games, games, games, back-to-back, one after another.
And it's pretty clear how they got from the 360 to the Xbox One. For years, they had been adding more and more media features to the 360. The first Kinect was essentially an experiment. It was all building up to the Xbox One, where all these media and Kinect features are native to the console.
And it sure has been successful for them...
This kind of AI makes me more interested in playing the game!
Oner is correct. The PS3 launched with two models: the 20GB for $499 and the 60GB for $599. The Xbox 360 also launched with two models: $299 for the Core model and $399 for the Pro model.
They only include the cheaper version of each console on this chart.
