Yes, again, quite true, and if ppl had of checked, there were sites around showing that a person could in fact operate Kinect from a chair, lounge or seat, stand, sit whatever.
It simply has to see the operators feet in order to judge the primary character, So sitting on the lounge navigating the menues, watching films, doing smaller games that do not require energetic moves can be done sitting down.
But, gamers, being the cynical creatures they are, will not...
Well, if you do bother to check around, Kinect was and is not aimed ar "Core Gamers" . .nor was their entire Cirque Du Soliel event. It ws aimed at an totally different audience. Gamers were just expecting it to be all for them.
Remember, gamers (core gamers that is) are NOT the primary market the publishers are now aiming for.
The everyday mum, dad, grandma, kids and family are the HUGE market these things are aimed at, no pun intended.
<...
Personally I can't see an issue with Kinect - for the market it is aimed at, and at the games it is aimed at.
MS have said you can use a controller as well as the Kinect unit at the same time, so some developers will build that into games that need it, while others, such as the sports, fitness etc do not need it.
While Move has similar issues, seeing that the ball at the front is nothing more than a device for depth perception from the screen. It still ha...
I think this one will take some getting used to. Spent about 2 hours on it before I had to send it on to the reviewer, but could see it was one of those games that would take some time to not only get used to, but master, and ideally enjoy.
COuldn't agree with you more mate. Actually, we used gaming as a form of dealing with loss while my partner was passing away with cancer several years ago. Having young kids, a bad emotional time and difficult circumstances, gaming came in very handy as a great way to break down walls and also draw us together more.
SO never underestimate the things that gaming can do for a family, as opposed to an solitary style that is normally associated with computer or console gaming...
Having raised 3 children, and helped with others, this article does offer some well thought out aspects of keeping both gaming and parenting in some form of happy medium.
Though you can never take kids for granted as to how they will behave at the oddest of times, but that's half the fun?? of being a parent ...
Well written and funny at the same time.
I have to agree with you there. I spent time with a tech developer who traveled there especially to check out the different motion units.
His hands-on with each was, in his words, average at best. But with regards tp the Sony Move, he even discussed it with Sony Game Developers who admitted they were NOT using the capture camera, and simply using the Accelerometer and gyro for the controls.
He was able to simply block the Ball and twist the hand by using his ...
There's one or two there That I don't mind, well, one anyway, that's the reboot of True Crime: Hong Kong. I think it looks great in what it's trying to deliver, and the dev was super enthusiastic with what they were doing with it.
You could see the amount of 'detail' they were including in it.
Not just visually, but within the storyline.
The others were nothing more than rehashes of current titles, with the exception o...
I think you'll find that Blu Ray is no longer a nessesity for games, in fact, almost all of the PS3 games use far less than what would be needed for a normal DVD9, even developers have admitted this.
With the huge shift towards online distribution, and with movies, Online live, streaming, Games On Demand, etc etc, the need for such a device is falling within a gaming platform.
HD can be streamed now, sure - in Australia it's an issue, but we have to ...
One game that stood out though in the semi modern warfare genre, which seems to become a genre all of its own these days, is THQ's Homefront.
These guys are taking this game seriously, and personally, I doubt it will pass the Australian censors. Not for the violance, but due to the political implications it 'could' have.
America is seemingly okay with blatant expressions of such things, but in Australia, setting an entire carpark up as a Korean wa...
There were many games that were only available to both Media and Buyers only.
You have to remember, E3 is not just for you, the gamer. It's for the publishers and developers to showcase their new IPs, upcoming works, and works in progress off to the gaming press, retailers, and other exhibitors ans publishers so they can ideally sell their wares.
It's NOT aimed at simply showing a lineup of games to the average joe-gamer. Many gamers seem to think the...
I suppose it's hard for publishers at this time. They have an industry that is splitting in half with regards to demographics with regards to genre's and age groups.
Especially with the major 3 software publishers pushing heavily for the casual market now, more than the hardened gamer.
They have franchises they know will bring in $$'s, which will help fund future new IP's. They need investments from shareholders, so to do that they need to ha...
Perhaps, but it's an omission that will affect public opinion, that's 'for sure'.
While I understand the reasoning behind it, initial cost higher than desired, then dropping as manufacturing gets into full swing etc, it's something that should have been addressed. It's their lack of forethought though.
Surely they knew the gamer's thoughts around it . . .well one would hope so.
Should have had biggest technological mistake, no slot loading in the new Xbox 360 'S' doohhhhh . . . (no, it's not called the Slim btw, it's official name is simply the Xbox 360 'S') . .
I know it was about keeping initial costs down, but I think xbox owners may have shelled out an extra $30-$40 for a unit with a slot loader - not sure, but I would have.
With games within a franchise, they begin working on the following iteration about 8 months out of release of the one about to land on the shelves. When a game is part of an existing franchise or series, they already have a great deal of the assets, engine etc, and simply have to build in the story arc and different location art. Improve various aspects, fix any known glitches and push the series further forward.
While the news of Forza 3's extension pack comeing in 2011 ...
It is really only $28 bucks more than the top tier console game rrp. Things like the Halo 3 Helmet was extremely dear, at over mid $200, so looking at $148 is not 'that' bad considering.
BUt as we all know, we can shop around and find these at prices well below the normal shelf RRP. BUt many can't be bothered, or are just bone lazy, and like to complain.
Not saying you do mate, just pointing out how many gamers do just that - complain.
Many forget, that 'Collectors Editions' are designed more for the fun-factor and the collectability of the item, rather than anything else. If you were to look at the costing of what goes into making a CE or LE, not that manybare true LE's, it's far greater than the small extra they ask for them.
What you are getting here is what used to be given out to the media as Media Junket to entice better reviews and previews.
Media now get bugger all, ...
It does not mean that you HAVE to use or will use the Kinect hardware or software fully for your favourite games, be they FPS, Adventure, RTS, or any genre for that matter.
It does give you greater access to interactivity with the hardware for family entertainment. If those of you were there, which many of you were not, nor at the Keynote the following day, you'd see the potential that is there for dev to get to the faster growing family gaming market.
NO...
At least there's some individuals have some brains above their naval.
Nintendo, Sony and MS know that there's a huge, new market out there, that is NOT the hardcore gamer that once riegned supreme on consoles and PC's.
Times have changed, but unfortunately, those 'core gamers' have not been out of their living rooms long enough to be able to see that there's a completely new generation that has been born and waiting to enjoy gaming wit...
Did you read the article and view the actual on E3 floor footage with the actually Ball being blocked as well as the camera being blocked . .? the controller is monitored by the accelaromitor and gyro, not the ball. Even the rep in the vid states that, and you can see that in the video.
Do have a look if you don't believe me.
I was quite surprised as well when I say it, and also spoke with the author at E3, who, has no investment in games, but only in the...
