This was an excellent interview at EB's Expo in Queensland. Some great discussion, which was supposed to last just 10 mins, but OXCGN had such a great time with him, we were given plenty of time to ask our questions.
Makes for some great reading actually, and it's an interesting point of view for future Battlefield games as well.
I saw ppl walking around with the Gears Of War Chainsaw-Gun, the full-size replica - for just $125 - there's no way that the item's wholesale price was that.
I nabbed the Crysis 2 Nano Collector edition which came in a HUGE, read HUMUGUS - it took both hands to carry the bugger) box which included a proper high quality backpack, which has a special laptop section, removable securing brace and cover, and well padded.
In fact, I used it on my travels ba...
I personally think it was a great event, not perfect, no event is, even E3 will always suffer 'issues'. But as an Aussie first, I think it did well in establishing that there IS A MARKET there for show organizers like Tradevent, the ppl that ran the event under contract from EB Games.
For them, this was their first foray into a 'gaming event', and from the very beginning, they were skeptical that an event for 'kids games' would be successful.
...
Some of the best attended games at the show were family games. While the 'staple' games for 'core gamers' were all well recieved, it was the family orientated games that really copped a flogging customer wise.
Ubisofts Dance game was always going strong, and proved to be one of the most attended activities at the show.
Thanksfully the penthouse girls did not have a go at that, the ensuing resulkts would have been rather embarrasing for them. A...
Event organoizers, that is, not EB, but the actual Convention Centre organizers, were very surprised to see SO many femal, (most aged over 30) attending the show, many without children.
Plus they commented that they were expecting a good turn-out, but nothing like what actually did happen.
The event is ALREADY pre-booked for 2012, and it'll be in Sydney this time at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. That's how happy Tradevent were with the show.
From what is playable, it is looking good . . .
The line for this was huge, some waiting upwards of an hour just to get their hands on the game. Luckily we were able to get in front of the que and spend an extended time on the game.
Alex's time with it certainly was worthwhile . . .it sounds like it's shaping up to be worth all the effort in re-doing the entire game. I think this will be a buy for me.
Well there's some great games ready to be shown to the general public and media alike.
We'll attempt to keep ppl in Australia, as well as friends across the globe informned on the 2 day event as it happens through our Twitter, Facebook and OXCGN.com sites.
EB have spared no expense in making this happen, and have obviously gone over budget (official comment made by insider) on their first event.
Hopefully Australia will start to be se...
Personally, I'm finding the game extremely 'intellectual' and intriguing. It's great to see a developer keeping true to their origins with regards to a games inner workings.
Too many games, within a franchise, especially one that has such a history, as well as a strong following.
Those that call themselves 'Core Gamers' or even 'Gamers' these days, if that's what they want to call themselves, are far from actually being 'real gamers'.
If they were, they'd welcome new IP's, new innovation and developers wanting to step outside the box (irrespective of platform) and try something different that the rest of the sheep making FPS or so-called RPG's and wantabe action games.
When I question gamers of ...
Typical of a blind fan comment. If Nintendo its self can and have seen a significant decline in sales, their expected uptake decimated, their price point blown out of all proportion, an dthe system delivering mediocure results for developers, then they are the ones that CAN and do see a major issue.
It's why they publically stated that, and have dropped the price significantly, and are genuinely worried that the Wii U will not sell as well as they predict, based on the di...
I think developers would do such things on consoles, IF they were allowed to by the publishing houses that control their funding . .
However, they would rather travel down the road of the 'known road', than try something new and uncertain.
As they, the Publishing houses, are pushed by shareholders to turn almost every game outing to turn profits, and NOT take risks.
Which is a real shame, as there's some great ideas being thrown ...
I'd have to agree with you there mate, well worth the investment into a decent rig, that's for sure.
Oh, I'm not doubting those facts mate . . . however, as some developers of late, last 18-24mths, have stated, that if they wish to grow bigger, they have had to broaden their userbase.
But some, like these guys, have chosen to stay with their current userbase, and support their loyal supporters with great games.
There's always a trade-off. Do you stay loyal to those that support you, or, if you are subject to shareholders, who are always asking for bi...
True, but it does limit their userbase these days, especially with the broader uptake of consoles over PC's for 'general gaming' this decade.
Still, looks like a great WWII game, and glad to see that some developers are not scared to stay in that time period.
Yep, this is what this style of gameplay should be about, getting the family involved into something everyone can have 'fun' with - -
looks like QuakeCon is shaping up nicely this year. I thin these sort of events are much more telling than the big 'shows' such as TGS, GDC and of course, E3.
The various developers on hand seem much more relaxed and telling with regards to information on their games, which is actually more critical than the info that comes from events as mentioned before.
Love to get the chance to attend some of these, perhaps one year . , . puts it in the wish/bucke...
An interesting bent on an old topic, looks like loads of fun.
The thing Sony have going for them is the westernisation of the firm as a whole. Knowing that in order to not only survive, but grow and flourish, they need to appeal to the core users, rather than those on the edge.
One of the biggest stumbling blocks for Nintendo is their leadership based in Japan. Their attitude of superiority and 'never-can-do-wrong' thought process they exude.
Apple has stumbled on the key-stone of what buyers want. Simplicity, f...
This would have to be one of the most anticipated games by serious gamers out there. Forget Gears, or even Battlefield, this game has over 100+ hours without including every adventure and side-quest in the game.
Anyone that says they've finished to game in less than even 40 hours is having themselves on - seriously on.
Most of the reviewers I've seen have devoted around 60 hrs into the game before delivering their verdict.
I git the e...
