Personally I do prefer Single Player games, and am totally against the rush to include MP into games that really do not require it, simply to fulfill a segment of the gaming audience that is not very supportive anyhow.

If game dev did offer the option, it would allow retailers to still sell the games secondhand without the need for developers to charge extra, which btw, SONY are now seriously considering for all their MP 1st Party titles - do a google on that, you'll find...

MS have been running many different charity events, such as the recent custom Xbox 360's that went up for ebay auction. They raised a significant amount here in Australia.

Sadly the other two majors do not find this type of publicity or promotional work of any value.

They need to understand that it's about being 'seen' and experienced outside their normal demographic. Which is how MS approaches the Xbox platform./

It has supp...

Bubbles for both of you for seeing past the blinkers that 'some' ppl have re their platform of choice.

Little is known about the fact that they tested the first iteration of the xbox 360 from freezing temps right up to temps over 100 deg for almost 2-3 days in a sealed room.

Naturally they could not do that with every unit, as I'm sure Sony could not do it with all the iterations of the PS2.

The original xbox 360 was equipted wit...

Truth be known, which many 'fanboys' do not want to admit (on ALL sides) is that all platforms have their issues, some more major than others.

The article its self is NOT about which one is best, or about the games on the platform, but a decent article on the various iterations of the Xbox 360 from the Core model through to the latest X360 'S'.

The PS had several iterations, let alone changes of style, as does the Nintendo throughout its range...

I like it, it's gritty, fast paced and full of action for some mind-numbing time wasting fun. Sure, the plot etc is sort of howdy-dowdy, but hey, it's a shooter, and what more can you ask for but - well - lots of shooting with big guns.

The added torture is kind of a new element though . .. and you can see WHY a 18 rating is needed in Australia. It is rated 18 in NZ, so why not Australia?

Yes, as the article says, the prices have risen - slightly, an average of $10 across the board (see figures in the article), but if you comaipr game prices from similar titles on say the PS-ONE, PS1,PSx, PS2, Sega etc, you'll see that many of those prices are higher then, than now.

But the MAJOR difference is, that the number of titles on offer each month has quadruplled - if not more. And while the retail price on games may have risen in line with inflation, actually, it...

As the article points out clearly, it's not the price of the games, or the content, as the retail costs over the last 2 decades has not changed that much across the board, remembering that the early PS1 and PS2 titles hit store s for over $60 us, $120 AU.

But it is the sheer number of titles being offered. In September alone, over 20 titles are on offer just for PS3 and 360 at retail stores, not including what they have on offer on PSN and XBLA, or for the cost of the ex...

I don't think the author is disputing the fact that many of these were great boss battles, but more to the point that developers are perhaps changing their focus, and that because of this, better story lines, less monster based games, such huge boss battles are not 'nessesary' for a game to be great.

Whereas it was a standard part of all games at one stage to have "the boss battle/s' for it to be classified as a great game.

I think you...

The RC unit is the same type used in the game as a remote explosive device used in confined spaces, hence the TV camera on-board.

If you recall?? Frontlines had one in their bag of tricks, and it was excellent at getting right up close to tanks and slipping under them - kaboom!

So that's WHY the RC car/thingy.

Well, when you look at the price of the previous Top Level Call Of Duty MW2 Edition, it topped the scales at more than that, The Grand Turismo 5 Signature Edition is $AU300/$NZ349, and you get less material wise.

Collectors Editions serve the purpose they are designed to, get pre-orders in to satisfy shareholders of the company, most of whom don't give a rats backside about what game it is, just the returns.

They also supply a collector with something a l...

The next Max Payne is not by Remedy Games, so there will be a shift, but the story line is also shifting, and part of that looks promising.

Personally, I look at what the game gives me insofar as entertainment, not whether there are the same controls as before, or if the setting has changed or not, but more about how the story line is progressing, and how that adds to my enjoyment, not comparing it to the previous one.

Which ideally you should not do . . . ot...

No, other way round actually. A developer has to pay licensing fees for every make and model of car included in a game if it is a direct replication of the real-world vehicle.

So to for any real-world tracks, cities, shops in those sites etc that are shown clearly in the game. Hence the HUGE price-tag on development cost, and why many racing games use generic cars and city scapes.

So think about the cost on 1000 cars as opposed to say 600 odd . . . and gettin...

There are times when it is necessary due to plot changes that have been evolving over time. Such as Splinter Cell.

While many gamers simply wanted another Chaos Theory, that game was really the end of the Sneak/peek/pop style of Sam Fisher.

Things changed in the game world, so the actual game style needed to change as well.

But many gamers can't see that, and simply want repetition, which does not advance any game.

And while having a great deal of tracks is good, if you're in the game for competition, it's more about learning less tracks, but knowing them right down to the last ripple in the road surface, even in Online Competition.

Forza 3 had over 110 tracks all up, and that was still a heap to work through. Most gamers will not even play half the cars on half the tracks available in such games, unless forced to to gain trophies or Gamer Points.

Look at GRiD, ...

Ace Combat: Fires Of liberation had something like 25-30 DLC packs which brought more than 10 planes per pack at times.

It went on for almost a full 18 months, if developers started compiling better DLC for single players, as well as the great Multiplayer DLC they do supply, there would always be a solid purchase of DLC, no matter how long it went on for.

Don't forget, some countries do spell words slightly differently, in Aust/NZ it's Turismo. check this url as an example http://www.mightyape.co.nz/

With regards to Track Editor, love to have it in GT5, but don't bank on changing any licensed tracks. They are strictly controlled, and not even offered in reverse in some cases due to that.

But making your own in other non-de-script location sh...

Well, considering some of the 1st-gen Xbox's that sold for under $300 are now worth in excess of $100 and upwards of $US5,000, then you see the desire in many collectors minds.

Many younger gamers can not see the value in these things, even as investments, as to them, an investment is something unknown to them, as they go through product so far, it has very little time to even gather dust, let alone acquire some long term value.

And yes, there were many &...

The casing is specially cast, as are the conytroller cases, you won't copy that at all, so fo rthe extra, you do get something 'different' - which is why you pay a premium for such things.

They do have to make their money back, as setting up presses, and a complete production line for special components is NOT cheap by any means.

They have to be set up separately to the normal production run, as that can not be interupted at all.
