Bubbles to you mate, at least you can see the trees in the forest.
Core-gamers, who like to think of themselves as the main reason game developers ar ein business need to understand, that the main return does not come from those individuals, but from the casual gamers, mums, dads, that buy games for their kids, themselves, and the family.
Most mainstream dev have other titles core-games either do not k ow about,, or simply don't want to know about.
I think many just did not get what MS were about, and yes, I agree, that perhaps they did pick some of the wrong live audience for the Kinect gig on the Sunday evening.
Personally I'm glad they did allow 'some' gaming media in, but those that did come seemed to think the event was aimed directly at them.
When as we know, it certainly was not. SO on one hand, you have the general media praising the possibilities for family entertainment, and on the...
Personally I don't know why MS did not include it in the original units, but financially I can understand why. After reading both of Dean Takahasi's books on the history of the xbox platform, and the 360 specifically, I can see where MS were coming from regarding hitting the Sweet Spot for price point on release, and over the subsequent variations until the units were making profit.
It's why several items were omitted from the original concept prototypes. They nee...
With regards to controllers, I've had about 12 in my possession at any one time.
Yes 12. Not replacements, but controllers belonging to 360's I own, part of the De-bug unit from MS, my sons 360 etc, and at the moment, I currently have 8.
From those I've really only had 2 muck up, and that was simply squeaky rignt triggers from excess use more than anything else.
The 'D' Pad gave me issues on one unit, but seeing I'm n...
Personally I can't see the need for the battery packs . . .
What's wrong with good old fashions rechargable Hi powered AA batteries - Nothing.
After 4 yrs, I've only had to buy a total of 6 rechargable batteries, initial 4, 2 in use, 2 on charged. Then as their recycle life expired, bought 2 more. So long as you get the high mhz ones, 2200 and above, you can't go wrong.
The recrag Packs are simply an accessory gymic as are man...
Well we are in an age of dispossability, not reusability, but that doesn't excuse them or any company actually.
But it is a fact most manurfaturers build for failure rather than longevity these days, much more profitable that way . .
Only hope the new line of gear lasts longer!
So something like MOVE or Kinect would suit this game much better then. Makes sense . . . and for those interested in such games, would make more sense, and be willing to do the energetic style of gameplay.
However, many gamers, as we know, are couch-potatos rather than energetic gamers. hehehehehe
Yeah that's true, and that's a sport that gets solid exposure as well. EA had a soild looking game at E3's stand using the Wii Remote Plus.
It looked great, so I'm wondering HOW such a device could be used in a Rugby game - any ideas ppl?
I think many "football games didn't cut it actually. Soccer games seem to get the most attention from Developers, perhaps it's due to their huge global popularity over such games as Rugby etc.
The next biggest would be cricket, most of these 'football' games do not sell that well outside their country of origin sadly, which is why they are not so well know, in the greater scheme of things.
Aussie's and their football, you have to love em'.
They go absolutely nuts over it, just like the American's and their Grid Iron . . .
Actually, we barely scratched the surface mate. There's more aspects of it with regards to 'being" at the event we could cover, but we looked more on the basics, and how to get there and manage.
Many things like organizing your local travel papers required for the US, customs requirements, as well as Things to do and NOT to do at the event its self.
We justhope that some indie sites like us find it helpful.
Ideally that's the idea. We never thought we'd have a chance of getting there, yet lots of effort and persistence paid off for us. We'd love to see more Smaller indie sites heading to such events as we believe such sites represent the gamer much more than the commercial sites.
Most of which simply attend because it's their 'job' to do so, and in reality, don't care too much about the event per-se, but attend because it is something that is just don...
I think many are missing an important aspect re gaming per-se.
That is, that gaming as we know it, is changing significantly.
While we might 'think' gamers are the controllers of the gaming universe, we are not. In fact, casual gaming and games for families are 10 times more lucrative to publishers than core-gaming is.
Which is why the major 3 platform holders are now hell-bent on getting into that family entertainment segment, with ...
It's a great arcade smash-n-bash, which is what grabs many into this genre. Even hardened Sim fans love a bit of vehicular carnage every now and then . . .
Yes, it's been a while, but this sounds like heaps of fun, and will certainly have to give it a bash when I get home from the US. While I prefer a sim or semi-sim, these are great to simply have some all out arcade fun on.
You can "scan" any object you wish to use actually. Which will be available when the units ship later this year. Allowing you to scan skateboards, sabers, whatever you wish really, if that is what you want to do - or not.
There's limits on both Kinect and Move at this stage of their development, but over time, you'll find both will mature, be fine tuned and give a great experience for anyone wanting a "fun" experience.
Remembering ...
It was a SHOW . .not a presentation of software. It was a typical Hollywood show for an audience that KNEW that, apart from the over sceptical gamer press form the mainstream game media.
Of course it was Acted, it was rehearsed for months, as are all 'shows' . . Don't you guys get it???
It's why no game celebrities where introduced on the Red Carpet, and only ppl like Billy Crystal, and his family, movie and day-time film stars, John Travolta&...
Man, some gamers don't get what a pre-release presentation is all about. Much like the Kinect "Show" that was held in LA on the Sunday Night prior to E3, which was a SHOW, not a presentation btw.
This was not exact gameplay but simply a representation of how Kinect will be used with the game, which btw, is well off from landing on a console near you for at least 12 months.
Which is a LONG way to go yet before the game even ships or is even ready...
If Kinect even does half of what it is supposed to do with this game, it should be a huge hit with both starlets and star war fans alike.
Looking forward to slashing sabers across the darkened room with this fun game. Who cares what it looks like or how accurate it is, so long as it's FUN
What a great game, not really fussed about many of the XBLA titles, but this one has my interest up, might give it a whack when I get home.
