No doubt, i wonder what the ratio between dvd players and blu/hd players sold. Big:Small?
I think TANOD has added me to his ignore list because i make him cry :-P
Speculation, replaced by blu-ray, hd dvd, or both. You do not know forsure which format will be dominant.
Your hopes and dreams are a personal matter :-P
Due to the fact that fans of the playstation got a blu-ray player for free in the PS3. If the PS3 didn't have a blu-ray player i would still be selling well though, i believe that most buy it for gaming and get the bonus of a blu-ray player. In the long run stand-alone player sales will decide format dominance. If you disagree ask yourself one question, are there more standalone dvd players than PS1, PS2, xbox,.... combined?
All i know is that according to futureshop.ca, all stand-alone hd dvd players sold out during boxing day sales, while only the samsung 1400_US on sale for $300 sold out. All other blu-ray players are in stock.
Price is and will continue to be a big deal. Although i still think both formats are here to stay.
EDIT: Thanks for the extra bubble guys, now i can chat more :-D
Why do people get worked up because the Wii is selling well? Power to you Wii! It isn't a race guys, only people with money invested in the console industry care which console sells the most.
A life lesson here:
It isn't cool to be able to tell your friends that the console you bought is the number one selling console. Saying that just makes you a tool.
EDIT: Does the disagree mean that there is a loser in here that thinks it is cool to be able to tell people ...
I like how the word "next gen" is always thrown around. Has it ever occurred to some of you that maybe some people don't want "next gen" (PS3 or 360 - not saying i believe in this definition but it seems to be the one people use).
Do we need console bashing on this site?

NO!
Just take TANODs bubbles away, he very rarely has anything relevant to contribute :-D
That argument doesn't really hold though because it was sony that broke away from the DVD forum because they wanted to try and start their own format. They do like to do that, which is a pretty large pain in the butt.
Reference 4 up
This specific model was only released on December 15th so it has nothing to do with not selling. Now people that buy the HD-A3 can't price match because this sale is for the HD-D3 (same player, just includes an HDMI cable).
I can't be bothered being there at 6 but i might cruise on by around 9 and see what they have to offer. I am sure if i see one of those players left for $99 then i won't be able to resist the urge. If the blu-ray player was that low i would get that too but they have the sammy on for $270ish.
Agreed if you want both formats it is cheaper to buy two individual machines.
This game does look pretty sweet!
I have heard that no region lock is a big thing for many people, my old man for one. He likes lots of British shows that can't be purchased in NA. Not a selling point for me though.
@ TANOD because he likes to keep saying it, what about people that only have HDTVs that support 720p/1080i, why would they want to spend the extra money to buy a player that outputs 1080p when they can't use 1080p?
Valid points Riot but i think price isn't the biggest option right now because many blu-ray owns aren't buying with the intent of buying a blu-ray player, they want a PS3 and happen to get a blu-ray player for free. A very good deal. I think when more people start buying with the intent to buy an hd dvd or blu-ray player then price will be more of a factor. I know if the 360 had been $200 more and included a blu-ray or hd dvd player i would have still bought it forsure but it would have be...
A winner or support from both formats from all movie studios would be great. Right now we have the choice of LCD, Plasma, DLP (to name a few) for TVs. Why can't we just keep both blu-ray and HD DVD and have full studio support for both?
Although people like to disagree with me i think both formats are here to stay. I don't see a problem with the mac and pc scenario. If studios produce on both formats then it would be nice if competition between HD DVD and Blu-ray resulted in low prices due to competition. I am a fan of low prices for good products. Plus both sides would continue to try and out innovate eachother, which i think is good for the consumer. If all studios produced movies on both formats then there wouldn't b...
How did this threat turn into an 360 vs. PS3 thread for some people? Can't people just buy the console that they enjoy playing and have a good time playing it without someone else saying it sucks or that it has no games? Come on guys, there is no need for console bashing. All of the console have games that appeal to different people.
Not new, just took a while for the fanboyism and all the hating to get old :-P
That is a pretty funny picture. I think they both messed up by agreeing to not work together. We are stuck with both formats. I think it is up to the studios now to start producing for both formats, if that happens then the problem is solved. Buy blu-ray or HD DVD then, it won't matter.
