Holy cow, stop with the 1080p because it isn't a big deal. Very few consumers have a 1080p set and the majority of 1080p sets have excellent processors in them so they are very good at deinterlacing a 1080i signal. Those members of this site that keep spouting 1080p are just starting to sound very stupid because most of these threads are talking about the appeal to the general customer, not the tech monster.
Man you know a lot of people. There are about 5 million PS3 owners right and you know 40% of them are buying blu ray movies?! How do you keep track of 2 million friends? Or maybe you are full of crap because the PS3 owners i know (about 8) bought it for games and don't care about blu ray movies. If we apply your magic statistics to my sample, oh no i get 0%. Since this thread has gotten off topic and turned into a blu ray is the best, i am going to join in too. What ever happened to the earth shattering spiderman 3 sales that the blu ray fanboys were promising us all? Surely it must be destroying transformers because spiderman 3 is on blu ray (obviously the best format every to bless our planet) and because sony is packaging spiderman 3 with almost every product they sell. Just curious thats all.

The average consumer that owns an HDTV has one that accepts either 720p or 1080i, not 1080p. A 1080p player does not appeal to the masses. Ergo, if the average consumer wants an HD-DVD player the HD-A3 will do the job nicely.

I myself and several people that i know own HDTVs and have neither an HD-DVD or Blu Ray player. To be honest i know of no one that owns either player. I think that people with HDTVs and an HD-DVD or Blu Ray player make up the minority. The majority of people with HDTVs own neither because most they don't want to buy into one side of a format war, and because HD cable/satellite and an up-converting DVD player are better value for money to the majority of consumers.
Betamax was better than VHS but i don't see many Betamax players around any more.

How can 640p be SDTV if 480p is considered EDTV. Halo 3 looks sweet, i have heard the 640p thing so many times but show me the difference between 640p and 720p under normal conditions. Hell on a set smaller than 32 inches it is hard to notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p under normal viewing conditions, so how are you going to notice the difference between 640p and 720p?

Plus i am guessing you have never seen the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" because if you had seen it you would have understood why i used the dot's to emulate pauses. What you did just makes no sense.

You also highlighted the reason this thread is going strong, most of the "amazing human beings that grace this site with their words" can't drink a beer and might have talked to a girl by now. The jury is still out on that one though. I am with you though, i raise a toast to all those that love gaming and just want to have a good time and discuss gaming news without it turning into a pissing match.
You will see 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, which ever one you want and it will look great. The scaler in the 360 obviously does a great job. This whole post is basically a waste of time because most of the "discussion" is headed by those who are insecure about their PS3 and its solid game line up.
I love that the person who wrote this article had to zoom in on the image to discover this. How many people play games zoomed in all the time? Anyone............Bueller..... ........Bueller.........?
Does the upscaled image not look better than the original or is it just me? Plus upscaling quality all depends on how good the tv, box, etc is at upscaling. That is why people buy upscaling dvd players because in general the player will do a better job than your HDTV.
On a side note, you know some of the fanboys complaining/gloating about the 640p don't even have HDTVs, so what does it matter? If the game looks good then who cares about the minute. It gets upscaled and look...
That is no point in trying to compare Halo 3 to RFOM, Halo 3 will be ridiculously sweet. Comparing the two would be like comparing the final fantasy series and Oblivion, you could but what is the point. The 360 just has the better games.

The average consumer doesn't need 1080p. Many of the tech monsters on this site (including myself) may purchase a 1080p player because we are after all tech monsters, but we aren't the average consumer. The average consumer doesn't even know the difference between a composite cable and an HDMI cable, so are they going to care about the difference between 1080i and 1080p?
