It would have been nice if they could have agreed and come out with one unified format. That would make life a lot easier. A lot more people would jump on the band wagon too!

I think they are both going to exist together. Right now neither (relatively speaking) have sold many players or movies. Both sides have a lot of money invested so i don't think they are just going to stop producing their format. I think all movie studios should go neutral then no early adopters will be screwed over.

Then just release it on 2 DVDs, not a big deal. I loved Baldur's Gate back in the day and i think that was on 5 CDs. For something to be on multiply DVDs it would have to be done right so that you aren't jumping out of your seat every 5 minutes, that could get a bit old after a while.
You need competition in any market. I hope the 360, wii, and PS3 are around for a while. The problem with the statement leave gaming to sony is that some people won't like that. I am a fan of facts myself and i don't want a flame war to start but haven't the highest reviewed games this year been on the 360? I am talking quantity and high scores? You hear about the odd PS3 game like resistance and warhawk, but i haven't seen or heard of huge reviews for lots of PS3 games. Then again i only know one person with a PS3 too. I might have missed some titles though.

I love playing Halo and Mass Effect to name a few, but you don't see me being a complete idiot and saying resistance what a crap game and don't even get me started about warhawk, all crap PS3 has no good games. It is the majority of consumers that decide things, not the few early adopters and gamers. If you think that the PS3 owners and the early blu and HD standalone player adopters are making long lasting format war decisions then i hate to burst your bubble. Neither side is going to give up when there are so few players (relativelty speaking) being sold on either side.
You are also missing the other option of them going HD-DVD. Right now Blu-rays lead is based soley on gamers. As i have said before we make up the minority. Gamers decide very little, it is the rest of consumers with HDTVs that make the decisions. The next batch of adopters will decide which format comes out on top.
Why would they switch? Right now they are selling their movies to everyone that has the ability to play HD. If they go HD DVD or Blu-ray then they are cutting off part of the market that they can sell too. They probably don't care if one format wins right now as long as they sell movies. I think they will need a nice cash incentive to make the switch because right now they are in a good position and getting lots of publicity because of it.
The only part of your comment that i disagree with is that there is still one thing wrong with blu-ray and that is the price. If i was to purchase a format right now i would go with HD-DVD because the price is lower and i get more movies free with it. Price is a big deal for a lot of people. I have no need for a PS3 so i would be buying a stand alone player. Plus stand alone players look so much better than consoles.
