In a context created by you, from an incomplete and extremely biased point of view, instead of analyzing both devices holistically by indicating their respective strengths and weaknesses, and discussing their similar characteristics and the reasons for the similar appeal between them, you prefer to restrict one of these devices to the confines of the other's characteristics and come up with a series of excuses to justify this action. This is done in a way that makes your preferred choice ...

I think recommending a computer in this situation actually makes a lot of sense. For a regular console, comparing it to a PC can be a bit confusing. But when you’re talking about a "Pro" console, it’s worth comparing it to the most "Pro" platform out there, which is a PC.

Building a gaming PC might cost more upfront, but over time, that cost evens out. You can often find games for much cheaper, and sometimes even for free if you’re okay with using servic...

No one is ignoring the performance boost, and honestly, you're the first person I've seen even bringing up the SSD. The problem is that Sony hasn’t done a great job of showcasing that performance. If I remember correctly, four or five of the games they presented were actually PS4 titles, and their later press release focused heavily on those other 8K games that will automatically get better, but many of those are PS4 games and by the description it doesn...

Yep, a buddy of mine has already ordered a dozen of those to flip when the console is released... I really want to punch him.

I’m pretty sure they will, because it’s advantageous for them to be able to say that the console sold out at launch.

As for PS4 owners, considering that the PS4 Pro had around 15 million users and many of those have probably already bought a PS5, I don’t think the rest of the PS4 owners are really waiting for a $700+ console to make the jump. More likely, they’re waiting for the PS5 to get a price cut or for FIFA to stop being released for their console.

You should stop spamming that BS everywhere.

"I've built a couple of PCs and hated the experience so much that nowadays I shell out for pre-built rigs."

That is a quote from an article written by Fraser Brown, an editor at PC Gamer and author of this article. I don’t think I need to explain how sad that is.

You’re comparing apples to oranges here, which is why it doesn’t make much sense. You suggested they should have made it only 1TB and priced it at $599. That way, consumers might find it more acceptable, which is a reasonable idea.

But the $699 price isn’t just about the extra storage. They’re charging that amount because that’s what they’ve decided. So, having less storage and a lower price aren’t as closely related as you might think. You can g...

You're kind of comparing two different things here. The first scenario you mentioned would give you a 3TB PS5, but there’s more to it. A consumer-grade SSD has a lot of parts that Sony doesn't have to pay extra for in the PS5 Pro. The main one is the controller, which can account for 20% to 40% of the total SSD cost, depending on the source.

Sony is really only paying for the extra memory modules, which would probably cost them around $40 at most. So, even if they m...

Consoles definitely have their place because they're affordable and easy to use. But when you start changing those two things, that's when I stop seeing the value—especially now that exclusive content isn't really a big factor anymore.

When it comes to the PS5 Pro, I think Sony is asking for too much. That $700 quickly turns into almost $900 once you add the disc drive and taxes. Cutting corners by not including the drive and even the stand just makes the deal w...

@BISHOP-BRASIL

Do you realize that Vice City was released almost 22 years ago, at a time when the internet was a completely different beast? And that it sold LITERALLY 1/10th of the units that GTA V sold?

So, no buddy, it’s not the same. There is a huge potential for exposure here that this guy passed on because, like you, he probably has no idea how large this audience is and is focusing on short-term gains instead of overall growth potential.

Stop acting like a fanboy. If not for your own self-respect, at least do it out of respect for your mother, who carried you for nine months. She definitely didn't go through that just for you to be a pawn for a major corporation.

I wouldn't be so sure. Based on the 2023 leak, the PS4 Pro sold around 15 million units.

To put that into perspective, at that time the regular PS4 was at around 90 million units. This means that the PS4 Pro accounted for less than 15% of the total PS4 sales. And the PS4 Pro had one major difference compared to the PS5 Pro: it was sold for USD $399, the exact same price as the base PS4 at launch.

So, while it will sell to those hardcore fans and depen...

I would argue that it's a bit worse than the Xbox One X case because a couple of the games they showed were cross-gen titles. The Last of Us Part II, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 are all games that run on 11-year-old hardware. It's cool that they look better now, but that is hardly impressive.

524d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Yeah, that's rough.

$700 for the console + $80 for the disc drive + $30 for the stand (assuming it's the same price as the Slim).

That makes it around $870 after tax.

@"--Onilink--"

For sure, at this point, I would be surprised if the PS5 itself isn't sold at a profit, even if it's not a large one. But the Portal is in a different category altogether. The brains of that machine is an SD662, a 'mid-tier' SoC from 2020, so it's super cheap. The screen is a basic Full HD 60Hz IPS, with no fancy tech like adaptive refresh rate. The Wi-Fi module is a standard 5GHz one, and the controllers are just repurposed Dual...

Yeah, but we have to remember that they're made of extremely cheap and outdated parts and sold for $200. So, even accounting for logistics and the retail cut, I wouldn't be surprised if the profit margin per unit is high, likely even the highest among all their products.

The PSVR2, on the other hand, was at best sold at cost and most likely at a loss.

The "leak" points to RDNA 3 with features of the RDNA 4. Just like the current PS5 is RDNA 1 with features of the RDNA 2. Those are custom solutions, so not exactly a 1 to 1 comparsion albeit super close at points.

Also it would be quite unlikely that AMD would showcase their full RDNA 4 on a console. Not the best showcase for that kind of product.

I mean, yes, it wears its inspiration like a medal. And that is good; we need more games like that, games that focus on the execution and to it really well.
