I _believe_ that a killer app really needs to be a reason to run out and get a specific system. Given that it is already on the 360, I don't think it qualifies.
Great game, though.
I don't think the core issue is that Sony is "screwing Europe." Most of us understand the economics and realize them to be on par with Sony's competitors.
The issue is, when it comes to general public perception, that the PS3 already seems expensive to many in the U.S, and when people see a $1,000 price tag for Europe, it seems down right insane.
At the end of the day this all boils down to the gasps and laughs that filled the keynote when I was at E3....
This is insane. Do you have some sort of reality filter on. You may not like it when bad news is posted on the PS3, but it is still a fact and it is still bad news. Not some poster's bias.
When MS lowered its predictions, pretty much every xbot came out and admitted it was bad news. NO fanboys (not fans, fanboys) of the PS3 seem to be able to look at things rationally. Guess what? THis news sucks. It is very expensive. Get over it. Sony needs to fix the perception that...
...did you take the quiz to post articles? News, even bad news, is newsworthy.
Yet everytime someone posts a negative point about the PS3 they are "trying" to make the machine look bad. Guess what? It isn't all some massive conspiracy. At the end of the day, bad news is just that, bad news.
(Edit: see 16.1..I clarify that the issue is more about price and not the incorrect perception that Eurpose is getting "screwed")
Given that every time someone posts 360 sales numbers someone responds with "But the PS2 is outselling it...it is the dominant machine"...
The logic is either invalid or applies to everything, meaning DVD is the winner, outselling HD 100-1.
Of course, logic is pointless on this site.
"I freakin' told you fanboys that blu-ray would win."
First off, BOTH formats have a long way to go, and NO ONE is in a position to declare a winner. For every analyst that votes BR, another votes HD.
And I appreciate your insight, but you have an incredibly small 50/50 chance of picking the winning format. Either way, calling a winner is silly at this point and not a particularly large accomplishment.
Note, anyone who says "See, PS3 is doing awesome" without reading the damn article gets a smack upside the head for idiocy. Please feel free to reference the following for the idiotic headline-only readers.
Unless I'm missing something, of course:
"EA sold $41 million in titles for the PlayStation 3"
"Revenue for the quarter that ended Dec. 31 rose less than 1 percent to $1.28 billion from $1.27 billion a year earlier. &qu...
But I largely agree with your first point. It is a "cheap" HD player, and it was largely the reason I got my PS3. I prefer the unified machine to the 360's approach. The problem is, I don't know if people who purchase the machine as an HD player are the demographics that purchase a substantial portion of hardcore games.
The reason I want a _version_ of the PS3 with BR cut from the machine is the fragmented market between HD and BR, combined with the fact that I re...
"The 360 is going to survive with DVD; Blu-ray just gives PS3 devs more of an advantage. "
Again, I disagree. In our case, the increased speed of the DVD is actually a preference. I won't bother restating my opinion regarding the uselessness of the increased space on a BR disk. There is a much more important point in regards to the market's economics, however.
I think everyone needs to understand that at this point, NO 3rd party studios can release a...
"There is nothing wrong with PS3...
...that a 50% price cut and 20 software updates can't fix. "
That is the best summation I have seen. Nice.
How in God's name have you reached the conclusion that the PS3 is ALREADY going to be number one? If I looked at the market right now, I'd really have to go with the Wii, based on its outselling of the PS3 in all territories, or maybe with the 360, given its current lead.
Sure the PS3 could certainly become number one, but making a statement that "it looks like..." PS3 will be the leader at this point is beyond insane. There is, as of today at least, no indication t...
...no matter how good your online play is, I can't justify your purchase when you have _zero_ offline content. Better luck next time.
...good luck, because it "ain't" going to happen.
"I know a lot of 360 fans are nervous about the advantages that Blu-ray gives PS3 developers...But stop trying to force your dissent onto the rest of us."
The article, and my comments, were quite pro-PS3. I'm not sure why you are attacking me on this. It merely states a potential solution to increase PS3 sales. I'm not saying sales are currently "bad", I just feel that Sony would be doing "better" at a lower price point. How is that a bad thing...
I know it is tacky to be the first to comment on an article one posts here, so sorry in advance...
The same site and writer also called the ending of E3 six months before it happened, noted that Assassins Creed, VF5, the Koei games and Oblivion were going multi-platform _months_ before announcements, called the six-axis functionality three weeks before E3 came and managed to get Blizzard to change how they handed out in-game rewards for cards...This is still a hugely controvers...
"No other announcements have been made."
IF the game was a PS3 exclusive and was to remain that way, this last line would not have been included. Does anyone here honestly believe that Capcom wouldn't release _any_ games on the 360 given the HUGE success it has been for them? It just DOES NOT make financial sense to give up $60-$120 million in sales (Dead Rising, Lost planet)....
Everyone just read that post and please move along.
He argues that the price should come down...like DVD players!? Apparently this guy is eight years old and has never seen a console launch before. Lack of competition (for the same device) means manufacturers are much slower to drop the price.
Not to mention Sony would like to minimize losses for as long as possible.
Worst...analyst...ever...
The issue of a hardware scaler is _absolutely_ not solved at this point. It isn't as simple as pointing to a piece of silicon and saying "Look! There it is!"
The exact same price drop on the 360. A price drop in 2007 would kill Sony. They need to reach a break even point, which production cost savings isn't going to come close to matching.
