Let's wait for the digital foundry analysis, shall we, but I can tell you right now that if you do the tests at home the input lag on Street Figher and the input lag on MK are EXACTLY 4 frames for each game (running at 60hz). No _PS3_ game runs below 3 frames of input latency. NONE.
Also, depending upon which crappy TV you may have, Plasma/LCD/LED tvs will input up to 5 frames of latency due to technology limitations.
I, and many others, have done the t...
No, seriously, I care. A lot. Also, I'm sure Microsoft cares. A lot.
This blog-o-post is literally why I hate the internet with every fiber of my being. Why should I, or any other human being on the planet, give two cents what some random dude on the internet thinks about the cost of Xbox Live. You think it is too much? Fine. Why exactly do I need to be inundated with your opinion? What makes you a special butterfly that I should waste even a second of my life r...
To skip the flamebait douchebaggery? Does the anonymity of the internet + N4G guarantee that EVERY FREAKIN' ARTICLE POSTED has to immediately devolve to MS versus Sony garbage.
I hate this site, and you sir, are emblamatic of the people that have long since ruined it.
Tech-wise, no. But neither MS nor Sony will allow it. Many have tried, and the answers are always the same. It won't happen. Never.
It isn't like this is some revolutionary idea no one in the industry has ever thought of...we all have. All of us.
In fact, from a networking perspective, it is quite trivial. We had cross-platform play on one of our titles (in house) very early on. There are two main issues that prevent this from happening:
XBL security layers in the protocol make it virtually impossible to interface. Throw in that you can't duplicate any functionality that exists via XBL (mat...
?????????
Really? I mean, really? Are we just making up facts now? The only think I can fathom here is that you are trying to say "that's why they were in last place last month..."
GOD I don't know why I try and come here for actual discussions.
I'm loving my PS3 , I think Sony's momentum is great for us in terms of customer base and increased sales potential for our games, and UC2 is definitely my GOTY thus far, but the rhetoric on this site is amazing.
If you read the comments on this thread, you'd think MS is in some sort of horrible position and they will never sell another console again. We've only been able to see the impact of the slim for ONE MONTH. We saw this same sort of impact after MGS4s release AND MS has...
Before I start, _I_ believe MW2 will sell better on 360 than PS3 simply due to the larger install base. That said:
You are INSANE if you are one of the hundreds of people on this thread who are showing this blase' attitude of "well, we have so many great first party titles that we don't care/have time to but 3rd party titles."
Each and every console owner should deeply and truly want 3rd party titles to succeed, regardless of the relative quality versus 1s...
I really wish some of you could have seen Kojima's presentation at GDC this year. His whole premise was that it was actually the _West_ that has the technological talent and pushes the boundaries in that respect while Kojima productions, representative of the East, focuses on design to overcome the historical technical limitations of technology. The final conclusion was that he wanted to finally merge the technological innovation of the West with the design sensibility of the East for his n...
I hate to use empirical evidence, but this just doesn't seem to add up. Of the literally hundreds of developers with PS3s where I work, not one of them used home beyond the initial "check it out" stage, and even on this site you'll notice that even the majority of very-pro PS3 users don't seem to touch it. So either there is this huge demographics of PS3 users that I'm not seeing either in the wild or through survey responses, or the definition of "active" is off.
Sigh.
Retailers make profit on all items they sell, regardless of what the manufacturer's margins are. If there is no profit to be made, they won't put the item on their shelves. This is the foundation of a retail economy. The PS3 (and PS2, Wii, 360, etc) has always had retail profit on each unit from day one, even when the losses for Sony per unit were estimated to be huge.
Retail margins have virtually nothing to do with whatever profit or loss Sony or Microso...
A retailer knows literally no information about a hardware company's losses or profits...I'm not implying analysts have "true" data, but they at least have the education/experience/time to devote to researching this sort of data.
RETAILERS would know the slim profits THEY are making on the hardware, because obviously Sony needs to provide slim room for a markup lest no retailer would carry the product, but they have no data on the cost of components to Sony....
Yes, because I'm sure M.S. execs are sitting around thinking they are at the top of the game and that they can just coast through the rest of this generation on the small lead they have.
Much like I'm sure Sony is sitting around staring at their 10 year plan in isolation without the slightest care that MS is doing so well.
Give it a rest people. Both MS and Sony know their competition, know what their plans are, and are constantly tuning their strategy to ensure the...
I went to buy Ninja Gaiden 2 last week for $10 immediately after the announcement went up, and the website told me that there were no stores in ALL of Chicago (not exactly a small city) with it in stock AND that the game was not available for delivery.
This was not the case with Turok or Condemned, for some reason, which they would deliver.
I call foul and have given up on Best Buy.
Umm...if by "free" you mean "need to pay Havok license fees just like any other platform."
There isn't. See how easy that was. :)
It doesn't.
Welcome to my new favorite poster spot. :)
That's like saying E3 builds aren't a waste of time...
A TON of work goes into putting together any playable build of a game...work that most developers would rather spend working on their actual, final product. There is an INCREDIBLE amount of work that goes into making a demo for an unreleased game, which was one of the reasons the original E3 was killed.
GT5P is an even more complex situation, because it is a "standalone game." Don't kid yourself into ...
The iOS game, and all the unlocks for the console game, is _free_. NRS does this stuff right.
