It is kind of a cool idea. I understand that it steals a bit from both Sony and MS...but I still find it interesting. Will it actually work? No idea, but I do want to at least see it in action.
My fear is that they may have missed the "core" of both the Nintendo and MS model, with MS being bragging rights and Nintendo being Mii's cute charm and use in games. If Sony brings a new "community" angle to this, though, it might be quite fun...
A centralized server architecture means that whomever holds the servers _has_ to keep them running, less no one will ever be able to play online. At some point, such as with MGS, so few players are online that it doesn't make fiscal sense for the developers or publishers to keep them running.
A p2p network such as XBL (Yes boys and girls, it is a unified experience, but xbox's still connect directly to each other) means that even if there are just two fans out there who play t...
You do realize that the vast majority of computer owners, even game players, still just have CD in them, right?
Blizzard's data on the machines of 9 million subscribers showed them that the vast majority of users did not have a DVD drive, so they decided to release the massive Burning Crusade on CD only.
It will be a very, very, very long time until computers with hi-def drives make even the slightest dent in the market.
See above. Repost from quite a while ago.
...to be the first person on my block to not have one.
I have a PS3, blu ray is fine with me and I enjoy it, although with downloads and regular DVDs I tend to only get a few titles. People have HD-DVD and like it just as much, and that is cool. One of the formats will hopefully die, and at the end of the day, NONE of us are really going to care. Beta died, a lot of people had beta players, people got over it. If BR dies, Sony will still have the format for games, and if HD-DVD dies MS will take its profit on the drives and stop making them. ...
I know this isn't something you are implying, but does anyone on this site _honestly_ believe Metal Gear and Final Fantasy will be released this year? Those games are huge, cinematic affairs that typically have extremely long development cycles. I've not heard a single source willing to even speculate that one of these will be delivered this year, most seem to assume a 2008 release on these games.
436,000 units for the Wii
The question becomes, when do we all start seeing the Wii as a _serious_ contender. While many think sales will slow, there is no sign of it, stores can't keep it on the shelves, and development costs are _much_ cheaper.
While I too often make the mistake of assuming it is Sony vs Microsoft, the fact is that Nintendo is really looking like a dominant company right now.
It is obvious the two won't be released simultaneously, but the only thing that is mentioned regarding any sort of date for the 360 is:
"“is indeed due for release” and that “an announcement will be made about that one in due course.”
Not sure how this sentence translates to "a lot sooner", but I guess the definition of sooner is a squishy concept anyway.
Also, aren't these two versions being built by different studios?
I get where you are coming from...they are like children, sure you _can_ lose a couple, but you really don't want to. ;)
On topic, I hope this is a good game. The original couple Alone in the Darks were groundbreaking, moody and a great deal of fun. After the second one the downward freefall into the pit o' death began.
1up's podcast (1up Yours for 02/16) starts off with them talking quite a bit about their experiences with Motorstorm, for those interested.
Mostly positive things about the multiplayer, a few negatives about the single player content, but overall positive.
Sorry for the bluntness, but fighting games have never been "killer apps." They have a very linear appeal to hardcore fighting guys, compared to something like Resistence or Lair where you don't have to memorize 60 combos to handle yourself.
F1 games play like...well...F1 games. It doesn't really matter to a lot of reviewers that the cars are _supposed_ to handle like they do, the fact is if you don't like F1, you will hate this game.
If you like F1, however, this is most likely the best game of the sport as yet made, unfortunately, a lot of Americans (and thus the American magazines) don't like F1
This is the exact same thing as the now resolved story posted on this site.
I honestly didn't believe it was possible to make a bad zombie game until I read this.
" At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles... They'd see their character attacking humans and have to pay just to watch! "
Oh please yes, take my money so I can *not* control the character I created. Sounds freakin' awesome.
The painful frustration he must have when he can't respond to anything that is said about his one comment is justice enough for me.
Bethesda is upgrading the visuals on the 360 version as well, by bringing the new shaders to the 360. Anyone who still uses Oblivion in their argument is grasping at straws. Check out last week's 1up podcast...they slam the IGN "article" and point out that they have seen the updated version on the 360 and they look EXACTLY the same.
Some people are still using the PS3 "optimizations" to imply that there are still improved PS3 visuals...there are not. Peri...
It seems that this is just the same quote in a smaller format. I could be wrong, but I think we do this "price cut part of Sony strategy" quote every week.
The wording is just very awkward in his sentence.
(Note: This is about word choice, not PS3 bashing, so relax)
Let us shed a tear for the loss of the superior NFL 2K series, with its "Cribs" function that gave you a house that your custom character could decorate with different pieces of furniture/trimmings/mini games and fill with all your achievement trophies.
Aside: Please, please let their new football game have customizable _everything_ that can be shared online so we can all contribute to making the actual NFL teams and players.
