There are NO residual values to making a Wii game. None.
By having a top internal team make a cutting-edge 360 or PS3 game, the company will gain a wealth of knowledge, tools and code that will help make more next-gen games more cheaply.
Tools and code for the Nintendo machine are useless on the other two. Art assets are also unusable for the other two, given the resolution issue.
"I would really like to see the parties try to do that with their number one teams rather than with the third- or fourth-string teams."
Geee, really?
The simple issue is that no matter how many damn machines Nintendo sells, there never seems to be a way for 3rd parties to make tons of money off a title. Sure, Nintendo gets a great rate of return off of Zelda and Mario, but Nintendo could re-release Mario64 with a new title screen and get great returns....
...would be allowed to answer your (good) questions, as most of what you are talking about falls under NDA. There are some historical/foundational differences between what is available to hobbyists and what comes with an SDK.
At the end of the day, the kit is very similar to the compiler on all fronts.
With XNA you use VS Express editions, which are really incredible IDEs and cover 99% of the issues a small or lone developer will need. With actual development, ...
I really have no idea what you are talking about.
Despite the positive changes to the PS3 version, I doubt I could classify it as even a single WAY better. It is better, yes, but the differences aren't really noticeable to the average viewer.
I don't really think I would call the 7800 series "prehistoric."
I have an eVGA 7800 GTX OC in my machine and it runs oblivion maxed as smooth as butter.
Producer (me), Project Manager or director are also chart toppers. But at the end of the day, no matter what your position, a C.S. degree will make it a) easier to get hired in games and b) easier to get a higher salary whether you program or not.
The other point of note is to remember that games are still 20% less salary and 40% more work than a standard tech industry job. But at the end of the day, knowing that you are making games and not a database system for capacitors o...
...does this have to do with GTA? ;)
(Just commenting on the barrage of GTA articles as of late and my surprise at seeing something about other games.)
A pedal is basically a "switch" to turn on a bunch of potential "filters" of the guitar sound as it comes out of an electric guitar to the amp.
Let's say that for the chorus of a song you want the guitar to have a more metallic sound or an echo effect, you'd hit the pedal with your foot for those chords you want to be run through the filter...since both hands are a little too busy to hit a switch somewhere. ;)
I tend to think MS makes smart business decisions (recently), but I strongly disagree with the Elite.
I think we can ALL agree that one of the biggest advantages the 360 has is that it is cheaper.
Regardless of the fairness in the comparisons or the limited edition nature of the product or what reality even looks like, it all boils down to the following statement in the eyes of average consumers:
PS3: $499
360: $479
Go ahead...
This really isn't meant as a PS3 flame, which is how it will be interpreted unfortunately, but to me it looks like a slightly more polished black (in this video). I can see all the new stuff they are doing, but it really is a testament to the original game as to how amazing the graphics were. This title, even without the updates, could stand toe-to-toe with a lot of the stuff I've seen this generation.
In summary, the PS3 is very powerful, I'm NOT saying it isn't. I am not m...
...all the job openings for my company so that I can inflate my numbers? Just being a jerk, sorry. I'm sure the three or so active Nintendo fans on this site will really enjoy this. ;)
I know this is crazy talk, but I just couldn't get into GTA. The actual play mechanics were awful (shooting and whatnot) and the open-world just gave me too much to do, so I stopped caring.
Crackdown, however, had such great and FUN play mechanics (and orb collecting) that I love popping online and playing around for a quick bit.
The graphics look very good, now just get the damn control right (which I'm sure they are focusing on).
The end.
I think the man assumes that developers will view this as a "challenge" and pick up the charge. Guess what? We won't.
Guess what? Game development is absurdly expensive. No matter what the fanboys on this site say, being difficult to develop for is in no way a good thing.
Harder development means a need for more senior engineers and for those senior engineers to spend more time. This means even more money just because Sony refuses to spend the mo...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Remember those?
BTW, I'm really not dissing what came out, given that I haven't played a build in quite a while. It may very well be fun and I (like most of you) will certainly pick it up...the issue is that I think the game could have been _awesome_ if they had just been a little more focused. The final output is sort of a BF2142 looking hybrid game...rather than the fun shooter that the first game was.
Most of us also know that Crimson Skies was at the point where they were adding too much extra crap (non aircraft levels), so MS brought in a new producer and designer to focus on making the core game great (and a year late).
Exactly what should have been done to Warhawk, I'm afraid.
Those people that green-lighted progress on the ground combat aspects of this game should be demoted to the platform testing tools division.
Classic game design gone awry. Rather than focusing on the core of the title (the flying) and getting it perfect, they tried to throw in every single idea in the world, meaning that the overall quality of each aspect suffers given that resources become diluted.
Look at the deleted levels section on GodOW...they cut nearly c...
are people just jerkin' around. It really doesn't seem to be fanboys, just people who are having a laugh or think the petition is stupid.
Given that 1000+ of the posts are discussing "Kangaroo Penis", I'm not sure this petition is going to work...
I have to admit you (THWIP) have a valid point. Nintendo made the decision to shave the bucks by CHOOSING to include a last-gen graphics subsystem. This makes the system useless for cross-platform development and ensures the usual amazing Nintendo support and occasional 3rd party 3rd string hit.
