Yes, and we will keep seeing this trash. I doubt not showing up at E3 this year is going to hurt the PS5 reveal at all. I used to be obsessed with E3 but nowadays I don't care where and when things are revealed. I will miss the spectacle of Sony and MS competing for attention on one weekend, but it's not as if that's the only way to do a console reveal. If Sony wants to ditch, my eyes will still by on the PS5 reveal. The only difference will be that it will be on a stage that...

It's a mistake for E3. I'll read some articles about what third party games are announced and whatever MS decides to do, but that's the extent to which I'll follow E3 without Sony. I will certainly tune in when Sony formally reveals the PS5 though. It just seems that it will not be at E3. Oh well, a rose in any other garden...

I know, it's like my Superbowl. I'm going to miss it. :( It's not the end of the world though. The battle of who has the best console reveal will still work even if it's done at different times and in different places. That in itself is its own event. Besides, there are more battlegrounds than just E3, and there are events hosted by the companies themselves. As long as we get great game reveals I don't care if it happens at E3 or not.

Man, these types of games seem to keep coming out of the woodwork. It's as if there are a ton of indie devs out there who are dissatisfied with the current state of Pokemon.

That was at least a good 90% of the console wars anyways. Sony and MS just needed to periodically fan the flames while the fans handled most of the mud slinging. It seems the fire is large enough now that neither company needs to do as much to fan it.

Sony and MS are and will continue to be business rivals, but the whole Sony vs MS soap opera was always sensationalized. Sure, I have no doubt both companies were in on that sensationalism as a means of driving interest in their products, and it turned the otherwise incredibly boring world of business into something actually intriguing. Maybe it's not a surprise afterall that I didn't major in business, lol.

It's possible that MS can have games that technically "run" on the XB1, but it's unlikely that the intention of their rule is for them to run as well as an asthmatic kid forced to run a school marathon. In all likelihood they will release games that run at least passably on the XB1, which means that even if the rumored specs of the new Xbox turn out to be true, all that extra ram and power will likely just be allocated to things like upscaling, increasing the frame rate and...

If your definition of "next gen" is releasing what will essentially be another glorified XB1 model for the duration that MS's rule that all games they release on their system have to work on their previous one is in effect, then sure. If your definition of next gen is games designed to take advantage of what new hardware can do that existing hardware can't, then no, not a chance.

Yeah, no doubt.

It's not worth dignifying nonsense MS and Xbox fans make up with a response.

It’s bad for those of us who used to treat the E3 press-conference battle as an annual sport. But, it’s not like there won’t be other venues for announcements relating to PlayStation and the PS5. If anything, Sony ditching E3 is bad for E3.

I don't know, but Sony doing what they think is right for them has worked out fantastically this gen, so there's plenty of reason to believe they know what they're doing.

Xbox fans are also complicit in that spinning, or maybe MS has done so much spinning they've managed to put their fans in a hypnotic trance.

Xbox fans: "Power is the way to go!"
Also Xbox fans: "What's so important about power? Why do PlayStation fans keep moving the goal posts?"
PlayStation fans: "Um...we're not dignifying that with a response."

I agree. It makes choosing which new console to pre-order even easier.

I used to love E3 as the Sony vs MS press conference battle was kind of my superbowl. It was pure nonsense, of course, but it was the kind of nonsense I got wrapped up in. I even got to go in 2013 and it was awesome. Of course it helped that my team (Sony) won by a landslide that year due to MS's DRM blunder and the XB1's higher price point, among other things.

Realistically speaking though, Sony has such an open net that they don't even need to show up to wi...

Well, “fun” is just one of many adjectives that fall under the larger umbrella of “engaging”. I’ve played games I wouldn’t define as fun but I was engaged by them anyways.

I think what we’re seeing is the evolution of gaming beyond the constraint of having to fit a narrow definition of what kinds of experiences to expect. I wouldn’t define every movie, tv show, book or comic as fun either, but there are plenty of those that are engaging.

MS really likes being a joke, don’t they? It’s like they can’t possibly refrain from screwing up a console reveal. This news doesn’t make me mad in the same way that the DRM fiasco did, but it does have the same effect of me feeling sorry for the diehard Xbox fans as I pre-order the latest PlayStation.

Actually, I’m not thrilled that third party titles may also be subject to MS’s cross-gen rule (I guess it depends on their policy), but hopefully that will translate into...

We still can. It’s just recommended you go with a PS5 if you want a proper next-gen experience.

I'm all for a "consumer-friendly" reason to pre-order a PS5.
