Lulz. I'm sure Sony spends considerably less time focusing on superfluous things such as the name and/or logo for their next system, and more on actual important things, like making sure it launches with some great games. Plus, I'm sure there will be some controversy if they ever do decide to change their naming convention or even something as simple as switching to a different style logo.
Lol. I'm disappointed we never got a "PlayStation One". In all seriousness though, keeping things simple avoids dumb naming conventions, and also any confusion.
Yeah, simplicity is a good thing. There's no confusion that the PS5 is the successor to the PS4, and there's no mixing it up with any past system.
To sum up this article, it takes a lot of words to say that Sony's playing it smart as naming their next console the PS5 avoids the confusion their competitors generated with the naming of systems, past, present or future.
Power was never the whole picture. Sure, MS seems to think so, but the Switch surpassed the XB1 in spite of the latter being out since late 2013, so that should tell you a lot.
Don't give them any ideas. I love Disney and all, but IMHO no company should control as much as they do right now.
At least if they dive into game development there will be a lot more in the way of healthy competition, but as far as I'm concerned it's kind of a good thing that they don't control a significant chunk of the games market in addition to what they already control.
I don't know, but for me it's highly suspect that a company whose service is as successful as he's claiming wouldn't want to share concrete numbers to boast that. There's no need to be secretive if there is actual impressive data to present. I don't think what Phil is saying is a lie per say. I think the type of sophistry being used here is called a partial truth, where what is being said is technically true. Where the deception lies is in what information is being...
Hey, Sony found what works and they’re sticking to it. Nothing wrong with that. It frees them up to focus on other, more important things.
Using the same name every time with only the number being different clearly helps Sony avoid the pitfalls of dumb naming conventions. There’s no silly sounding Wii/WiiU equivalent or head scratching “PlayStation One” from Sony.
That’s probably in part because Nintendo also tends to release a very different system each time too. They may not put much into power but they sure earn points for creativity.
Neat! I already have this on PC (original version of the first two games), PS4 and Vita and my PS4 copy physical as I got the collector’s edition from Limited Run Games. But, a Switch port is a no-brainer. Should I get that too? Hmmmm... It seems that everyone but PC is getting this updated edition. I think the drama over that in the PC camp is only going to intensify.
Um...ripping off the Switch's design doesn't make it a Switch killer. Heck, it's looking more like a Switch Lite than a standard Switch. Even so, I think the Lite alone will outsell this thing many times over.
Gamingbolt! I missed you! Ok, I didn't really, but it's good to know you're still posting says dev articles about the PS5's architecture.
Well, there's no need to fudge numbers if their products are successful.
Sweet! Good time to be single. I can spend Valentine's Day playing Dreams.
Whoever sells the most systems holds the key to the future of gaming. If MS wants that to be them, they have their work cut out for them...and a lot of prayer.
If you say so.
Yeah...why do you bother talking about it? It's not worth the thought.
I remember working at a Best Buy at the time, and seeing that battle play out firsthand. I was elated when BluRay won as that's what I was hoping would happen, but it was an interesting time for sure. I got to see a section of the store go from being half-and-half BluRay and HD-DVD to just BluRay. My friend's parents actually had an HD-DVD player, so I did get to see one in action.
I still miss VC. I was part of the apparent minority that actually used it. I like owning my games or at least have unlimited, service-free, access to digital games, and I also like having access to more games. Adding online capabilities for some titles just doesn't excite me when it comes at the expense of not being able to play many other titles period.
