A lack of exclusives has plagued the XB1. MS actually managed to salvage the system after the disastrous DRM fiasco pre-launch, which is no small feat considering many people were boycotting the system. It still probably hurt early sales at least a little, and caused the system to stumble out of the gate. But, exclusives have been the main problem. Fans said "hey MS, how about more exclusives?" MS responded with some BS about the cloud. Fans said "no really, we want more ...
It was never acceptable, but for some reason gamers have been ok with paying full price for skeletons of games, judging by sales figures. It seems like people are finally starting to wise up and see that business practice for what it is though, and I think that's a positive change.
@LoveSpuds You can actually often see the signs of whether a system will be successful before it's even released, just by examining what's going on with its predecessor late in its lifespan. Sure, that doesn't paint a full picture as there are factors to consider such as whether a company will try a new tactic or specifics about hardware, but if a console manufacturer continues on the same trajectory it's actually possible to at least hypothesize how things will go for them n...
I will agree that how well MS's E3 presentation goes could greatly impact MS's strategy going forward, but I think the "make or break" ship has sailed for the XB1 at this point. I mean, there are still things that can be done to improve sales, but overtaking the PS4 isn't going to happen. Slowing the momentum of the Switch isn't going to happen either or at least nothing MS can do will slow it.
Some people would like that, but Insomniac came out and said it's not happening, so it's a moot point.
Well, yes and no. Batman operates pretty much exclusively at night, while Spider-Man comes out whenever there's a need for him. I do agree that a day/night toggle is not completely necessary here either, but would be nice for non-story moments.
That would be a neat feature, but sometimes it's good to have specific times of day/night set the mood for certain story events, which can't be done if the time of day is always dependent on when the player is playing the game. It's definitely not essential for the game to have a dynamic time system. Maybe there could be a free-roaming mode where such a system is implemented, or perhaps it could take effect at times when the player isn't playing a story mission, but this gam...
Shhh...the money sucking pirates of the industry would lose sleep at night if they knew singleplayer games without MTs were thriving. Ok, this game isn't out yet, but I definitely see this one doing really well.
Why? That won’t bring the cost down that much and they already have the S for those that want a cheaper option.
Not unless they’ve completely changed their approach.
@EDMIX I think you're confusing public opinion and the medium itself. Game devs are capable of delivering any kind of story they want, so long as it's advanced by the player. Games can and often do contain themes that match those found in other media.
Those who are raising issues over games containing certain content and hypocritically ignoring other media are just that IMHO: hypocrites. Videogames as a medium have grown up and some people can't accept that, ...
Yes and no. I don't watch a lot of movies or tv shows because I prefer videogames, but every medium has its pros and cons. Videogames, aside from visual novels, are locked to a narrative format where the story is advanced through the actions of the player character(s). That's only one possible way to tell a story, but IMHO videogames are king for that particular formula. The extra immersion that comes from feeling like you made the events of the story happen or at least had your h...
We'll still probably see BS rumours like some listing of an XB1 version by some retailer in Bulgaria, but it's good to know that said rumours can be nipped in the bud as Insomniac has confirmed the game's exclusivity. There's a reason why my PS4 is my system of choice.
MS needs to fix their issues in the West, or they'll never be competitive again, lol. Japan's a lost cause for them, but that didn't stop them before. What's stopping them now is they're also lacking Western exclusives. They don't currently have a leg up in any region.
You can play most games from Steam and other services on laptops and low-end desktops. That's why I never bothered to spring for a high-end device. I did settle on a laptop with two graphics cards including a Radeon chip in case I want to play something a little more graphic intensive, but I can tell you exactly what most of my Steam games look like. Let's just say they generally don't even come close to taxing the hardware I have, and it's nowhere near high-end.
The time for MS to worry was ages ago. Now it's time for them to accept their placement in the console war and either decide to make an effort for next gen, or to go the other way and concede the console market to Sony and Nintendo. The choice is theirs, but if they really wanted a shot at winning the current console war they should have worked on securing a competitive exclusive lineup.
People have been retarded when it comes to politics, no matter what their political affiliation is, since about 2016. I'm sure I don't need to say why. I think games should be allowed to have political messages in them if they want to, for the same reason any other piece of media can. But, they also shouldn't be obligated to take a stance on a real-world political issue if their creators don't want to, and I'm getting sick of people getting offended by stuff that doesn&...
Given that EA did push singleplayer games successfully in the past, and given that they do still own a bunch of studios, some of which did/do specialize in singleplayer games, that's a load of BS. Their studios can develop singleplayer games, which can perform well. That their singleplayer games aren't doing well has nothing to do with "lacking specialization". They're clearly not marketing their games correctly, or gamers are getting wise to their tactics of cutting ...
Well, now it can be closed thanks to the EA acquisition. The only difference is Bioware lived on long enough to have its name tarnished by the king of studio-killers before they inevitably axe it off. Such a huge improvement. /s
Well, we're still missing PS1 Classics on the PS4 so as a legacy system the PS3 is arguably better, even with the enhanced PS2 classics on the PS4 and enhanced ports of PS3 games. On the other hand, PS4 has some excellent PS4 games, so it's a fantastic current system.
I don't think it's nearly as simple as it seems to determine an era to be the best. It's also highly possible to be influenced by feeling comfortable playing on the most current system ...
