Sony have spent a lot of money on a big marketing campaign thats due to start in December. I'm not stating weather thats the right approach, or even if I think it will succeed, but if you bothered to read you would see that they are spending on it.

Actually mate, you can customise almost any facet of the XMB for the PS3, sounds, icons, changing backdrops. I can't see that these offer any more differences, unless you'd care to enlighgten us?
I still find it ridiculous that anyone is ever charged for a theme..

@ dark - you might want to check the HDMI versions compatability if you are using hdmi cables on both machines.
PS3 is full V1.3 compliant. Unfortunately the 360 used v1.2, which shouldn't be an issue, but might be the cause of your problems. I'm using an original release 360 and manage to get 1080P signal from componant cables fine.
@Montrealien - I believe the point made about 1080P content was refering to native rendering. We all know that 360 upscales everything, but...
Gears 1& 2, great games , but most assuredly not great stories.
The clichéd predictable dialog thats on offer is a very long way away from interactive story telling, and there are a great number of titles that do the job immeasurably better. Half Life springs to mind, mass effect also deserves mention, let alone some of the classic JRPG's or the incredibly evocative 'ICO'.
Gears is a great action game. But lets not pretend it has a brilliant story...
Blu rays ARE all native 1080P - 1920 x 1080 pixels.
The ONLY exceptions to this are some american TV discs which were originally mastered in 1080i format. But all films are full 1080P.
Though I enjoy 'owning' a physical disc, thats not the big differentiator for me.

Unless a digital download can offer me the same quality as a blu ray, its simply not a comparible product, and I've never seen a download thats even remotely close in terms of quality.

The machine they sell most of, and are pushing really heavilly, doesn't even have a hard drive! It would be a cynical firm indeed who pushed a hard driveless machine so heavilly, whilst persuing a future where you were required to have one. A game is not released till 27th of the month - of course that affects how many it will have sold for that month! You need to look atr an entire months figures before you can call how well it sold...

But it has to be noted that any real gamers on here (and I know there are still a few) will likely have both machines and will often download the demo's on both platforms before making a purchase. I know I do.
So real comparisons in peoples homes DO happen - at least for titles with demo's on both platforms!

I remember when it always sold 2 to 1 in the US. Crowing about it after such a hefty price cut is a little triumphalist for my liking.
Still, if you ever needed proof that cutting prices shifts units, here it it! Lets see if they can maintain this spike with the holiday season upon us. Having Gears 2 release should keep their momentum high!
I played it like mad for about 30 hours, but now some other great games have come out, I've just not gone back to it.
Theres no doubt its a rich and great title, but I don't think its the kind of classic that so many reviews have made out, and most people who I've spoken with who have played it through tend to agreee.
Well I guess that will keep all those who bought those cheap rubbish TV's happy - but seriously, 720P is a far better signal than 1080i so its far better to stick with that if you can...
