I disagree - I thought the version of Battle for Middle Earth that EA did was good - once you got your head around the controls it played a good game. Not as good as a PC version, but I can buy 3X complte 360's for the price of my video card alone, so its to expected I'd get better framerate on and rs on a PC! :)

The interface on this game is actually very well handled and you don't have issues with the controls. I do have a few niggles with the game, but they are not as a resu...

Controls are pretty easy to navigate mate, theres just not enough! If you are a halo fan let nothing out you off - its a well told story and the cut scenes are super - if only bungie had been as good!

The only people who will be disappointed will be RTS players who like to be strategic. Unfortunately thats me too, and I'm not as enamoured of the game as I wanted to be, but I think the text of this review is a little harsh even if the score rings true for me.

@ Xi
I'm sorry you feel like that. The fact I don't love your favorite puppy that upsetting eh?

Yes I work on games, but I've only ever done one for the PS3, and that was multi platform, so it was 360 game too. I've done 3 others for 360, so I guess professionally I've worked a lot more on 360 games than others. I also have more titles on 360 than PS3 and have owned all the current gen machines since release, so I have a 360 a lot longer.
But I digress, I write on...

Well I have to say that I don't normally expect an objective review from gamespot, but they are one of the few to look a little deeper than the obvious visual polish and ease of access and find that its game missing something.

I'm about halfway through the campaign, maybe a little more, and I have to see its simply not a very deep RTS as so I'm a bit dissapointed...and most of these remarks in the review ring very true.
I'd have given it a 7 based on the 5 hours or so I'...

@ JokesOnYou
thanks for the reasoned comments! I pretty much agree with what you say.
The only thing I would like to 'elaborate on' is that its not the control scheme that I believe lessens the strategic element of the title, as you suggested. Rather its several other things that combine to rob the game of many strategic elements I personally enjoy:-

1) The design and scripting of the campaign levels makes how you deal with each level a linear experience planned b...

@Montrealien

Thats because of the D pad on the 360! You just can't use it. which means you have to try and use the analogue stick. As you know, this means a small delay in response but more importantly, it leads to imprecision, which is fatal in these games.
I've been playing on 360, but simply because of the Dpad, I'm gonna have to buy it on PS3.

Fair enough mate - no one is wrong, I'm just offering an alternative viewpoint having just played the full game for many hours.

Your right of course that many non RTS gamers will play this - but not becuase of any 'accessability issues', but because its in the Halo universe. Whilst they might well enjoy the experience they have, my concern is that they won't experience the freedoom and depth of stratagey that usually makes these kind of titles so compelling, and I think thats a...

Yes mate - I've just had a five hour session on the release version, and for someone like you, used to real strategic playing, it will be a turn off. The level are very scripted with not a lot of freedoom as to how you approach them.
Shame - I wanted a lot more, but as you say, many people who might never have played an RTS, might start to give them a look after this, so not awful by any means - just a bit limited! :)

@Soda Popinsky
Constatntly mate - if its out early I can never resist the urge take a look! Unlike many, I do actually buy the ones I intend to play, but i have to admit that some of the 'MEH' titles don't see my money.

Don't agree on Banjo which left me cold - but have to agree that Left4dead is a belter of a title! You can never go wrong with zombies (I even like the new Jap slasher 'Bikini Samurai Warriors' too - so much zombie gibbige! :))

Sorry Kushan but I absolutely have to disagree.

I've just had a 5 hours playing the full game and it simply hasn't got the depth or the controls you need to make a game like this play well. The unit selection options are simply not good enough to give orders to the correct units in the heat of the battle, and many tried and tested strategic elements of the RTS game are completely missing.
To suggest this is better than CC3 or even Battle for middle earth is plain wrong. ...

Good score!

I have to admit I'm slightly concerned about the story delivery - thats the very thing thats drives me to playing RPG's and something I had really hoped they got right.

Everything else leads me to believe this will be a great experience, and one I'll pick up for sure as I just dont get enough JRPG fixes anymore and I've been a little disapointed with 'big guns' so far.

I actually agree with 'La Chance' for once in my life - Eternal Sona...

At last someone else who can see past the IP to the slightly disapointing game underneath!
I hate the restrictive nature of the base building, with the pre selected building spots, and handling resource gathering as they have means you have no stratagey in terms of cutting off enemy supplies or needing to protect your own supply lines. Whilst I've not opened the entire tech tree yet, it does seem a bit limited too, and I'm also dissapointed in the selection options for your units bein...

Got Ninja blade yesterday...thats worth a look if you like hack n'slash and don't mind 'quick time' button press boss battles! You'll have to grab it on import but its region free and in english..
Halo wars is a bit MEH IMHO, but if you love the Halo story you'll like the well told story here- and the cut scenes are done really well!
You are gonna have to play SF4 with the analogue stick and deal with the imprecisision I'm afraid - the D pad is too awful to use on this title. ...

I'm not the biggest Halo fan so I approached the title as an RTS fan.
I have to say I was underwhelmed. I peronally think even 'battle for middle earth' on 360 was better. I only got it yesterday and I do intend to put some serious hours in today so I DO hope it grows on me.

Buts its certainly not the blockbuster I was expecting and I have to admit to being a bit dissapointed...I wanted so much more than it delivered.

Japanese homes are much smaller than those in the US. To them, having a machine the size of a 360 and having to have a power brick too and then hearing the noise? Most do not want to be sitting next to that. Size is also a factor in the slow adoption of PS3 there too, even though the power supply is integrated in that machine.
In a land where small is beautiful, the next gen machines are seen as too bulky - especially the 360.
Add to it a controller design thats FAR too large f...

This is a non story - anyone can do a warez search and see its region free release, we knew that many days ago.

I must be in minority because I hear that opinion expressed a lot.

Despite having large hands, I find extended play with a 360 controller gives me hand cramps and pain. My wife also complains of hand pains with the 360 and hardly ever uses the machine anymore because of the controller. I carry on of course, but I always suffer after extended periods of use.
Both of us can use the PS3 pad for many long hours without any discomfort, so ergonomically its by far the superior...

Some of the humor is left intact - but none of the game. Worst game engine I've ever played on the 360, and some pretty miserable and uninspired game design too..

In general, exclusives merely represent bragging rights for the kind of rampant one-machine lovers that inhabit these pages.

For the public at large, games available for the system will include all the big franchises that are multi platform, and the 360 has plenty. If you do just own a 360, you're not gonna be short of some great new games, and due to shoddy conversions, the 360 often gets the better version for multi's.

Now I own both systems and I DO care about...
