Its a fair comment.
When you put it to real technical scruitiny, the onlive service is not gonna deliver the immediate response many games require and won't even deliver 720P signals to most without lots of compression corrupting the picture, never mind 1080P, which is what new technology should be delivering. Theres no doubt this kind of system will make a huge splash in the future, but the technology and the infrastructure around the world means its only suited for a select few in i...
I see the point this guy making, and its fair enough. In a free market you inevitably pay the price if you continue to not deliver what the public wants to buy.
What I find difficult to stomach is the complete lack of empathy on display for the hard working developers who will pay the price of misdirection and mismanagement. Whenever there are layoffs - and its all two frequant in this industry, I've personally experienced it four times over 16 years - the people who suffer mos...
Whilst I appreciate the two things have a shared cross over space,
comparing games on iphone with games on a dedicated gaming device is pretty difficult - they are aiming at different ends of the market.
Theres no question that a phone like iphone is ideal for any apps or games that involve a level of social comunity, and so the man arguing very definately in its corner is the man from facebook.
But if you've played many iphone games, they really don't of...
The incentive for trying to attract a developer to devlop exclusively is not just about stopping it from appearing on a rival system.
PSN exclusive titles are often full 1080P native res games, something you'll hardly ever see if its intended for live as well. There is no space restriction in terms of allowable size for the games either, so a planned exclusive can be developed without a size restriction limiting the vision. If it made sense to, you can use some six axis input f...
Hardcore is owning all the machines. :)
I like my PS3, and the line up this year looks great, but theres nothing 'ridiculous' about the 360 at the moment, and I expect to be playing some great games on that as well.
Hardcore is actually being into games, not the lump of plastic and metal that delivers them to you!
It IS different, in some very important aspects:
MS usually buys exclusive rights. It has full control over the IP and product. In several cases, their deals have stopped products already under development for alternative machines from being released, or at the very least, delay them for 6 months.
Sony is merely refunding the accounted dev costs for any exclusive game that meets its quality standards. The game, the IP, and all rights belong to the developer. Its...
Much as I'd be happy to see the next MGS title go multi plat (the more gamers get to play these games the better I reckon), I somehow doubt it.
With each new release, the series has always been at the leading edge of tech, and you can guarentee they will be looking to 'push it' for the next title. Though he's always been politic about it, he has expressed that the last game used a lot features of the PS3 architecture and the large data space they had available. I can't see them wishing...
There was an article about this a long time ago when they first announced they were porting the engine for consoles. They particularly liked the SPU's on the PS3 as they could easily adapt their code base to run certain elements per SPU. It apparently suited their programming philosophy.
Based on that, its safe to assume the code is not PC centric ported over stuff, but code specifically for the hardware architecture of the respective machine, and as such, the PS3 should not su...
Good news - if not overly informative!
Ico is right up there in my fave games of all time 'top 5', a game I still hold dear to this day. Some of those play mechanics in a next gen version is a sublime prospect for me.
Which would include you if you had this system! :)
Er... no actually. Caps are fairly rare in the Us, but becoming more common. The limit are certainly not restrictive like they are in the UK.
FYI, sky is the ONLY isp in the UK with a true uncapped service. It only became trully uncapped about 4 months ago. Every single other isp in the UK, uses a FUP to limit what their consumers can download - even on the the supposedly unlimited packages they provide. True, they won't cut you off, but once you exceed the cap your speeds are ...
It should be completely silent. The machine itself can drown almost any noise, but the power brick should not make a sound.
It looks great but has some problems. It linear, and the Quick time button presses do nothing but annoy and interfere with the action rather than compliment it.
Still, it does look nice and the combat itself is also pretty entertaining! You'd expect a mix bunch of reviews. for me, its a 7.5, but I appreciate that others may get more out of it.
Ouch! Not just me then.
I have had two RROD failures already - though I've got them repaired and the last repair has lasted nearly 8 months. But now I have a E74 (suprisingly just a week or so after updating to NXE :) )
This machine is for the bin. But I'm a game junkie, and despite playing enjoying and using my PS3 a LOT, any real game junkie needs both machines. I shall just have to fork out for another one.
DOH!
My wife uses it constantly.
For her, its a virtual lounge and she likes just meeting new friends and playing a game of pool or bowls with them.
Does exactly what I thought it would do. It's a brilliant social networking tool for those that want it. Anyone expecting anything else will be dissapoinhted, but those after a compelling way to meet and chat with fellow PSN members might just grow attached to it.
I think some of vitriolic posts on here are missing the point.
NG2 was flawed gem. Anyone who plays fighters of this nature must agree, it has the best combat system of any such game, a trully deep and rewarding combat mechanic. Valid critisms were levelled at the camera, the story and the graphics engine, but the underlying game mechanics were to notch.
The thought of having such refined combat mechanic, with a new engine and possibly some of the annoyances remo...
Both myself and my wife get hand cramps using the 360, yet don't get the issue using the PS3 controller. With my wife, this has stopped her using the machine at all... obviously I just deal with it! :)
But the prospect of using PS3 pads with the 360 is obviously of interest to us - I could actually temp her into a co op Res5 game!
I'll be getting this, and I suspect I won't be the only one to feel the same. Though I suspect I'm clearly in the minority (I know so many you...
What an excellent article.:) Good funny journalism poking fun at the stupidity of the phoney wars.
Considering you can buy 3x 360's for the price of a high end video card alone - it had better be able to perform!
I use high end PC's for my day to day buisness and have two powefull PC's at home. But I almost nver use them for gaming. I simply prefer to lounge back on my nice big HD TV with a 360 game or a PS3. For me, PC gaming has been dead for years. Yes, you can get the very best technical experience on PC's if you are prepared to spend the money, I don't doubt it. But whe...
Whilst I appreciate that the developers had former 'good form' some time ago, I find it difficult to appreciate why so many think this game will be a great technology showcase? We've seen and heard so little information, that any statements of technical excellence are surely just hype and wishful thinking. They are certainly not based on any facts or evidence.
Now I like this genre of games, and I'm hoping this does shape up to be a great example, but I'm wary that the unfounde...
