I'd urge you to read the article and understand it! Yes of course the PS3 boots up without a hard drive - how could put in a new one and format it it if it didn't?
The entire point of the article is that they didn't want to have a HD less machine, as having a HD in every model is a huge advantage. Yes we know they would have sold more if it were cheaper, but they decided against that, and I for one applaud that decision.
"nothing gets upscaled"
So you play your Wii games in a little window in the middle of the screen then?
Cause I don't beleive you. I bet your 480P signal gets to cover the entire 1920 ,1024 pixels of your TV screeen, doesn't it?
Thats called upscaling - and so your TV does do it.
When my PS3 switched on it also says 1080P, because thats the res my XMB is at. When I put in a Blu ray it says 1080P 24f ,because thats the res...
Don't understand why theres a bunch of americans in here talking about 200 bucks?
This has nothing at all to do with the US and is a story about another price drop in Europe just 6 months after the last price drop.
Its remarkably chaep for what it is, and surely if these price points don't turn around its sales compared to PS3 in this region, then nothing ever will.
See!!! Thats what happens when you make a system thats difficult to develop for and and a 'cell' which no one can program!!!
No - wait a minute.... :) :)
<sarcasm mode off>
Like it or loath it - Vgchartz is the only source of sales figures we have for Europe. Historically, with a few very well publicized and commented exceptions, its been pretty accurate too, so its at least of passing interest to anyone who has a real interest in sales trends.
Where else can you have a real indication of which titles are selling and which are not? If someone wishes to show an alternative source for Europe I'll gladly use it, but this is what we've got, and I'm not the on...
@thor - yes, if you have a 1080P TV it upscales whatever signal you feed it. Chances are it will do a very good job too as 1080P sets normally have fairly decent upscaling chips. Certainly I get the same quality from letting my TV upscale a 720P game on the Ps3 as I do from getting the upscaled 720P signal out of the 360.
I must correct you - there are just three games that run in true native 1080P on a 360. The 360 does a good job at upscaling games to 1080P and it always tells the TV its '1080P', but its not.
The PS3 actually has quite a few more genuine native 1080P titles - around 25 actually, with quite a few more due. It only outputs the highest res it can though, so if a game only has 720P available, your TV will show '720P' and simply upscale it itself.
In use, I see littl...
I don't think any of us have learnt anything new from this! :)
Of course they will have considered offering a cheaper machine without a HD.
I actually appluad Sony's decision to ensure their is always a HD and I think its ultimately the correct decision from a software dev point of view. But for selling units, you can't argue with MS having a cheap arcade machine, and its shifting masses, so you can reasonabley argue this is also a good and valid approach even if it is ...
@cherrypie
As illustrated above - its a well known fact how much MS paid for this content and its been announced in financial reports and well discussed in the media. Whilst I agree you can't trust every piece of gossip you hear on the net, this has proven to be true.
I also don't understand you bandying around phrases like 'irrational hate'? Both my own comment and the reply were made by people who own and enjoy 360 consoles. Its not 'hate' to wish that MS had funded mo...
"*AN EXECUTIVE FROM EA -- WHO IS A PARTNER OF SONY* saying it."
You appear to be unaware that this guy was the head of Microsofts gaming division and the front spokesman for the 360. Have you only just been born?
You can't suggest he's the least biased source on the planet!
Though obviously his views are interesting, they are likely to be influenced by his previous roles..
Theres nothing in this article to say they are present or not present? Its a couple of paragraphs and certainly doen't give anyone any amunition to claim or counter claim anything except to suggest that its not a botched conversion.
Great game, and with the extra's I'm highly tempted to get it again and play it some more...
Seems far too expensive to me.
All these machines should have had an HDMI from the start, but for those that didn't, most modern TV's can still take an exceptional 1080P image from component cables. Mine certianly does.
Hard to see where the market for this is?
The only advantage I can see with this device at the moment is that its full hdmi v1.3 compliant like the PS3 hdmi ports. All hdmi's on the 360 so far have been the slightly inferior v1.2 s...
Well said. I pretty much agree with everything you said - though for some reason the site seems to be putting my 'agrees' in the 'disagree' slot so sorry about that!
I wish these guys would just shut the hell up.
I like the 360. I'm looking forward to Fable 2 and GOW2.
But I do so hate the way that these brash MS boys talk - it like a playground ego fight, and you can almost see them all strutting around with their chests puffed out punching the air every time one of them makes another pathetic press release.
If their so confident of their machine and line up, then please simply let the games and the reviewers ...
It hard to see this as a worthwile investrment. There must surely be only a few people who are eagerly anticpating this?
$50 mil could have funded a couple of new IP's, and I think most real gamers would prefer to see positive investment in new software, rather than spending money to withold something from another platform. One is a positive action, the other is negative.
Whatever the politics, I hope the DLC turns out good for those that have been waiting.
Peter has always had vision, and is a genuine nice chap - I've the fortune to meet and chat with him. He's a very different beast from people like Dyack and Cliffy B, and his views are always interesting.
Enjoy it though I did, I was critical of Fable 1 on some issues, but I'm convinced that Fable 2 will deliver everything I'm looking for. Please!!:)
As for anything else thats comes out of his studio, you can guarantee it will be interesting and well worth looking at... ...
Whilst the technology demonstration is great, and this level of facial animation is very welcome to games, the article is a bit misleading.
The demo clearly shows a real video plate - the bit thats been 'matted over' is the facial features, and they clearly demonstrate this at the end of the piece. To suggest, as they do in this article, that it's all CG is to misunderstand what they are seeing.
The facial expressions are excellently captured and mapping them int...
The whole article appears to have been withdrawn.
You are quiet right and I agree with you 100%.
I'm not suggesting that VGcahtz are the most accurate figures out there, but they usually show the trend accurately if not the exact numbers and are a useful discussion point for people who are genuinely interested in whats happening and not simply winning some silly sales argument. For a region like Europe, they are the only region wide figures available, and previous statements from the three manufacturers suggest that their figu...
@ Ju
you are wrong mate. In europe we got the price cut the americans have only just got ages ago. The arcade version has already been priced lower han the Wii here for more than 6 months.
This is an ADDITIONAL price cut, over and beyond what america has seen..
