you could have a gaming for 500usd or upto 2000usd. however even the 500usd pc will play games better then console and the games will be cheaper by a good deal. Dead rising 2 on PC is 20usd cheaper.
You dont need top end hardware to beat a console, 4 years old hardware will do just that.

GTX 460 is very powerful, any of the following gpus:

Are more then enough to rock the consoles, these are below the 100usd mark.

Once you start playing with mouse keyboard, playing with a controller naturally feels being handicapped.
"However, it also highlights quite dramatically just how much PC gaming technology is being held back by the technical limitations of the current generation of HD consoles."
This exactly the reason why, even hardware from 4 years back doesnt need upgrades since even that beats the console experience.
Personally i have decided i will be doing no more upgrades, AMD & Nvidia can go out of business for all i care.
Left 4 dead series is the most fun coop shooter out there. Specially the PC version, due to free dlcs and constant mods from the community. Also i feel a fast paced game like left 4 dead should be enjoyed with mouse and keyboard, unlike other fps games left 4 dead feels really gimped with a controller.
Backward compatibility is on the top of my list. I don't want the situation of PS2 - PS3 where we have to wait and pay for remakes.
Its selling for 5gbp on steam. Its cool console gamers can enjoy the game in HD now. Let's hope they keep the pricing in line with steam.
"The fact that $200 buys you an entry level Xbox 360 or Sony Playstation 3 isn’t really helping PC gaming at all"
Lets not get deluded here with the Price, Almost everyone knows a hard drive is essential for gaming these days. Add in a hard drive and that Xbox is already 300usd. Add in live charges for 5 years and the Xbox is now 600usd. Add in the fact every game sold on console is more expensive then the PC, Consoles suddenly start to look a lot more expensive t...
Imagine the fireworks when consoles restart from 0 next gen and steam alone is over 50million base(add in rest of the DD network and we might be over 100million by the time next gen consoles role out). PC will steal the limelight, Fat cheques from Sony or Micro may fall short.
Steam alone had about 3 million people online at the same time this sunday. Its been growing at a mind boggling pace, earlier this year it would be lucky to see 2.5million ppl on at peak times on sunday.
Steam numbers alone are rivaling XBL.
Agreed though, funny part is PC gaming is actually cheaper then consoles. People just get deluded by the initial 300usd price tag on the console. Later on everything to do with the console is more expensive be it:
Games (10-20usd more then PC version) this adds up very quickly
Accessories very costly on the Xbox 360
Charges to go online

We arent talking state of the art tech here. ATI 3000series or 4000series is very old now samegoes for the nvidia counter parts. Any of that tech used in the next wii would ensure 1080p in 90% of todays games. That would put it far ahead of PS3 or Xbox 360.
If Nintendo go ahead and recycle the same tech they have on the Wii then yes they probably will be on par with PS3 or the Xbox 360, however using anything from 1-2 gen back tech will put them ...
@max speed
Xbox 360 and PS3 are 5 years old in terms of tech. Even if nintendo used a last gen GPU from ATI or Nvidia like a 4xxx series gpu from ATI or 2xx from Nvidia. They would be far more advanced in comparison to the Xbox 360 or the PS3. Hell even the Series before last gen is far superior to what is in the current HD consoles.
You do realise tech has moved on so far, even if nintendo purposely tried to gimp the next wii it would still be more powerful then the current xbox 360 or the PS3.
Capcom games just tend to suck this gen, ill pass.
@Jsonhenry
I dont see how you cant tell a difference between 30fps and 60fps, you'd have to be blind not to be able to tell a difference.

Still if there is a platform which has a chance to give us 3D @ 1080p with 60fps its the PC specially on graphics intensive games.
They dont have to sacrifice 60fps on PC. Current gen mid range hardware already runs most games around 1080p @ 100fps + anyways. 3D @ 1080p with 60fps wont be much of an issue.
Played Dragon age origins on PC was a totally different game then the console counterpart.
Everyone has a PC at home, Base PCs cost around 300usd, all you need for gaming is a 100usd gpu. Hence the gaming component of the PC only costs you that much. Now dont go on telling me you dont need a PC at home.
Also dont forget your PS3 also costs you more per game. Dead rising 2 being 20usd more. By the end of the generation when you are done buying about a 100games multiply that number by 15 atleast. Thats how much extra you will end up spending for the PS3. Whats more...
