Kefka was one bad mofo, and actually succeeded in ruining the world. Kuja destroyed an entire world, started a world War in another, used human souls to create war machines, brought entire continents to ruin and committed mass genocide. The hell did Sephiroth do? Burned one village and called out to a space rock that got defeated lol.
The 3DS sales were fantastic as well though, and helped build the franchise to the point where they were confidant enough to release a AAA version. I absolutely love MHW, but the handheld games are fantastic too, and still host twice the content.
Some day, inevitably, it will be a good experience. I don't think we're quite there on a global level yet though.
3rd person doesn't work well for interaction with objects in vertical environments. Think of how frustrating it is to even try to grab items off shelves that are level with you in skyrim in third person, or in Witcher. The camera practically breaks at times, and that's dealing with most things on one vertical level. Go play newer Deus Ex, and tell me how any of it would work in third person. It'd play like crap.
I see it as it could be very beneficial to both parties if pulled off correctly. For one, Nintendo definitely needs the online systems that Microsoft can offer and excels at. And at the same time, Microsoft would surely love to offer its subscription service to what will be at the end of its life, a console selling well over 50 million units. MS also really, really needs a foothold in Japan. I feel like it only adds value to both products. The markets they are attempting to occupy are so diff...
Even people here that hate Nintendo's hardware won't argue against the fact that N has some of the strongest IP in the world. Would be very hard for them to ever lose that. Mario is a social phenomenon.
That's what happens when you do something first though, or do it early and create the foundation for all others due to innovation and polish. Any platformer that ever exists for the rest of time will always have to live in Mario's shadow, for example. Symphony of the Night borrowed heavily from Super Metroid's map and world ideas, with progress in certain places being tied to coming back later with new abilities, but added RPG elements, and that's basically been the pinnacle o...
That would actually be Metroid lol. Play Metroid Prime.
God damn, did God of War hit every note perfectly.
Mario and Sonic are platformers. Games like Ori and Symphony of the Night, Metroid games, Bloodstained, etc, aren't even remotely similar. I get that Metroidvania is probably a poor attempt at describing them, but no has had any better ideas in over a decade lol.
No, make me.
It's the best description you could use right now. Otherwise, let's just say it's a 2D action-adventure back-tracking RPG with platforming elements. Yeah, that's a mouthful. The genre itself is comprised of many genres that are presented in a very specific way, so it's hard to categorize. Although, I should ask, how many games have ever done it better than Symphony of the Night since its release?
Don't say Dark Cloud 3; Don't give me hope man.
They might change it, but they would have to deal with possible confusion from buyers, not knowing that they are the same product, and each have the same games, unless they have a very good marketing campaign for it.
Cool thing about a smaller screen, is they can also lower the resolution, have it still be pixel perfect, and you could see significant performance boosts in many games on handheld.
Joycons and the dock as well. That, and if they are manufacturing a new version of the Tegra chip (also freeing up space and materials for heat dissipation), and a smaller screen, this mini version could end up being half the price of what the Switch is now. It would sell like crazy. Perhaps even have a new dock bundled with a Pro controller to sell as accessories. Surely would also be able to be paired with joycons wirelessly/bluetooth. Great business move if they've gotten all the manuf...
Gran Turismo 2, Project Gotham Racing 2, Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero, Need for Speed Underground 2.
Basically, they're funneling money in Sega, and recording losses for tax purposes. The company is doing fine. You see it all the time with Hollywood accounting. Some of the biggest selling movies of all time have recorded losses of hundreds of millions. It's shady and questionable, for sure, but that's just how they do it.
It failed, for sure, but I still enjoyed my time with it, and it did have some gems. If you're into console modding, it's a great one to do so with nowadays. You have the vWii mode, so you can run Gamecube, Wii and Wii Games all natively. It's powerful enough to run most older generation emulators, and there injects for any and all Virtual Console titles as well. One of the best retro consoles you can get your hands on, if you don't have a PC powerful enough for emulation. Run...
With the amount of money they're putting into FF7R, across multiple games, I doubt that SE is going to remake any of the FF games in a similar manner. FF7 is still their highest selling game, and none of the other games in the franchise have reached a cultural popularity where they think they'd get enough money back after the investment I'd wager.
Jenova has control over her cells. Sephiroth goes insane after coming into contact with her. He was implanted with high levels in vitro. No coincidence at all. Jenova was actually controlling his mind, it's one of the things that's kinda lost in the English translation. It's supposed to be ironic, how he calls Cloud a puppet, when his strings are being pulled by Jenova the entire time.
