It wasn't even awful, it was just an action game with the RE name attached to it. At least 4 still employed horror atmosphere very well in places. Starting with 5, no Shinji Mikami or Hideki Kamiya.

The action was great though in 4, and even in 5 the controls were very fun. The problem after 4 was lack of horror atmosphere, and convoluted story-telling.

One of the big problems with the story itself is that the Western version was butchered in translation. The whole clone storyline thing wasn't something that even happened in the original script. There were no Sephiroth clones; Hojo merely experimented on humans and injected them with Jenova cells to test the Reunion theory. For some reason that was considered less confusing though lol. Also, it's never really clear that you're not chasing Sephiroth the whole game. It's Jenova...

The name's too big. Original FF7 had an unprecedented marketing campaign, and that's carried the game for over 20 years now. This will probably be the highest selling SE game ever.

I don't know, I can't wrap my head around it lol. Level progression surely won't be as fast, or else that would break the game/s. Most of FF7's areas outside of towns and the overworld consist of pre-renders where you run in straight line through them. You figure with more to explore, you have more battles, unless it's not random and they're on the map and can be engaged at will. How long are people going to have to wait between games? If it's more than a year betw...

I work with a kid who has lived in Guatemala and the DR, among other places. One of the other guys at work was complaining about being poor, when he has a car, a house, phone, internet, job where we give free food, etc. Kid looked him straight in the eye and said "If you have a door on your house, you're f**king rich." Makes you think.

Some(many) devs are still going to prioritize graphical fidelity over framerate, as they do now. When consumers start to want more demanding things, like Ray tracing, hair works, physics, destructible environments, etc, framerates will fall to the wayside. As long as 30 is acceptable, devs will max out consoles, unless budget restraints come into play.

There's no way in hell they could fit all of FF7, in the way that they're supposedly remaking it, into one game. If it's an open world game, you're looking at one of the biggest games ever made, in terms of dialogue, voice acting, motion capture, areas, etc. Still hard to believe it's possible to deliver it as a cohesive experience. An open world Midgar, until when they leave to pursue Jenova/Sephiroth would be a full game in itself.

It depends if the technology will push gaming forward, rather than make the games look prettier. The game design boundary now, other than budget, is AI and physics. Huge improvements in those will see drastic changes in how games are experienced. After that, is VR that catches up with modern graphics, and better haptic feedback.

Well in BotW, it's an integral balancing and pacing mechanic. It being truly open to explore, so much so that you can run to the final objective at any point, it'd be far too easy to find a decent weapon and carry it for the rest of the game if there was no durability. It also encourages you to try new things, and adapt as you play to use everything you can find. Lastly, it doesn't have repair mechanics; Weapons are basically consumable items that you continually replace, and/or c...

We still have no idea what Nintendo will be announcing next month. Mario Odyssey was released within 7 months of its announcement, and I'm sure there will be at least one surprise game unveiled soon.

No, Luigi's Mansion has more of a Metroidvania quality to it, or the first one did anyways. Dark Moon was more mission based, but I believe it was due to the smaller/handheld nature. Progression in places blocked until boss fights, finding items, etc. Pretty enjoyable series.

It depends on how many resources they want to put into development.

Let us not forget Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear: Solid. OoT introduced so many things into 3D gaming, like fixed targeting, context sensitive actions, and the beginnings of true open world gaming. The cinematography was fantastic and executed with incredible care. And with MGS, we were shown that games truly could be cinematic experiences akin to movies. Both game changers for the industry.
Actually, if you guys are interested, here is an incredible retrospect on the story of OoT: ...

Talking about the past, it was an exclusive once upon a time.

Luckily we have about fifteen of hindsight now though. PS2 version had extra content, which was great, but the game was built for the Gamecube. It looked better, ran better and felt better to control. RE4 blew away competition when it first launched. And yes, the PS2 version was also very good, because we're talking about one of the greatest games ever made xD

It didn't run as well, or look as nice, but the extra content was definitely a plus on PS2. Damn though, RE4 was a revelation when it first launched on Gamecube.

I grew up in a poor neighborhood too, lots of drugs and shitty people. I can understand wanting to keep your pride, but that life is different from a corporate environment. These are places where cops escort you out and don't let you leave the building alone when you get fired. That CEO has the money to get lawyers to ruin your whole life. If you're only worried about your own pride, that's fine, but what if you have a wife and kid at home to feed? "Sorry babe, going to jail ...
