You keep that opinion, while I will enjoy the ever-living hell out of Monster Hunter Rise lol. As amazing as World was in production value, 4U and Generations were far more complex games in terms of mechanics and choice, which is what a large part of the MH community enjoys.
What? There have been more Monster Hunter games on Nintendo consoles than haven't at this point. Portable Monster Hunter sales have been very good to Capcom. And as great as MHW was, it was stripped back in complexity and Monster count from the prior games.
Depends how it sells. If no one buys the Series S, it will get dropped immediately. If everyone keeps buying PS4 games and consoles, every PS5 title will end up being cross-gen. That's just how it works. These companies are going to do what it takes to get our money.
That's what people are concerned about though. Cross-gen titles basically eliminating the need for a next-gen one, aside from graphical updates. Basically how game design has been for the last decade though. Very few new ideas and possibilities, much more new shiny things. VR and greatly enhanced AI are the next logical steps for new gaming experiences, but VR isn't really all there yet. Expensive, takes up too much space.
Whatever. In 15 years or less AI will be making all o...
Basically, they want enough power to be able to brute force games, and not rely on clever programming and good optimazation. Means they would need better programmers and more dev time, meaning more money invested. There's a reason why some studios (Nintendo in-house, Naughty Dog, for example) shine so brightly above the others.
Last gen was the same thing. What did PS4 launch with that was really only possible on that hardware? Only thing I can think of is Killzone, and that was it. Xbox One had Ryse. Everything else on both those consoles was pretty much multi-plat and cross gen.
I have all the current gen consoles, and I will most certainly have both a Series X and PS5. As of now though, Sony hasn't given me a reason to pick one up at launch, at all. Demon's Souls remake alone isn't enough to justify that purchase over the Series X, a more powerful box, which imo MS has better online services and UI.
I couldn't even finish Horizon or Spider-Man on PS4, they just didn't hold my interest. Last of Us 2, God of War, brilliant titles. Gonna b...
I basically only play my PS4 when a good, single-player exclusive game comes out lol. I don't think I've turned it on since I beat Last of Us 2. My friends have Xbox, I like the controller and online services much, much more. Having that, and a BC compatible library on more powerful hardware, Series X is the obvious choice for me at the beginning. Down the line, PS5 will no doubt have some fantastic exclusives that I can't ignore. I'll get one then for those games.
For now, next-gen just means (potentially) higher resolution and frame-rate lol. Maybe some enhanced lighting effects. We'll see how many devs start implementing ray-tracing. Hopefully in a few years, when we see games built up for the consoles, we'll have games that are using gameplay mechanics that could not feasibly run on older hardware at all.
Basically, Sony dogged on MS for being transparent about doing cross-gen, to build hype for PS5, and then went and did exactly the same. That's why people are upset. I mean, it's kinda obvious it was the right financial move, but it subverted intentions. Neither company has given good reason to adopt day one, unless you just want to have new tech, and see older games running better. I'm going Series X. More powerful, meaning better experience on multi-plats, and I enjoy Xbox's...
Most games are going to be cross-gen, I'd bet, until the install bases of the new consoles are high. No publisher is going to ignore install bases of over 100 million, many of whom are probably not ready to move on to next gen. It's going to take a couple/few years, at least. I honestly think that PS5/Series X could have held off for another year, maybe longer...
I think that people are excited about MS potentially being a real contender again, after getting trounced last gen. The original Xbox and 360 were great consoles (rrod aside), and brought many new innovations to the industry. They messed up bad with the One, aside from imo, superior online experience and UI.
Could put the first Baten Kaitos game on this list. Developed by Monolith Soft, and underrated RPGs. First was published by Namco.
Older games, unless you're emulating them with crazy amounts of anti-aliasing, looked alot better back then on CRTs than modern displays, because they were designed for them. That, and a high quality CRT display is still one of the best options you could have for gaming image quality, even today.
Great Digital Foundry video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I can't possibly imagine a worse business decision for them. Their other competitors are doubling down on backwards compatibility. Best thing Nintendo could do is simply make a Switch 2 somewhere down the line. Same concept, just more powerful. Should be BC, which wouldn't make sense if you can insert your cartridges and play, but not redownload your digitial titles. They'd get absolutely torn apart by fans and the media.
Even then, PS5 and Series X games will still probably have dynamic resolutions lol.
People are like "4k Switch with longer battery life and $200 please!" xD
I'm not gonna sit here and defend all their business practices, because I'm not paying $60 for that Mario collection, nor do I think it should be a limited offer. To say though, that they long ago forgot what gaming quality is, while taking into consideration how good most of their first-party games are, is just not true. Mario Odyssey and BotW alone are two of the best games to come out in the last 10 years.
This year has been pretty shitty in general for gaming; What great ...
It'd be cool if that technology existed lol. We're not there yet. Battery tech, heating issues, etc. I think Nintendo needs to double down and keep good game content coming, until the tech is available to have a significant upgrade for the same price, while being backwards compatible. A price drop for the Switch would be great for the holidays though, with a pack-in title.
No, they want people like the ones who visit this site to buy the Series X, or support Game Pass on PC.
Who cares? I'll probably have a Series X and PS5 by then, and I'll still drop both to play Monster Hunter on launch day lol. Good games > Everything. Also, it was a third party showcase announced beforehand, people still asking for Smash and Zelda news lol. A new Zelda game was literally just announced and showed off ten days ago...
