So few people have 120fps capable displays; I doubt most developers will give that option much thought.

Yup, and if any less was acceptable, they'd push for that too lol.

Well, what does that mean for the 99 percent of games that are multi-plats, that will also be on the PS5 and PC?
I really hope you're not right, because that would mean that 99 percent of this entire gen is basically 4TF, right?

The market for the S, do you think it's for people with higher than 1080p displays?

Activision just wants to get rid of everything that was Blizzard, and keep the IP to whore it out for as much profit as possible. Preferably in China.

Power never worked out all that well for Nintendo, either. The Gamecube was way beyond PS2 in terms of specs, but got absolutely crushed in sales, despite having a fantastic library. And if Sony actually supported the Vita and allowed SD cards instead of propiertery memory (and just called it the PSP2), the Switch would actually have some handheld competition. The Vita kicks ass, but the only value I can really get out of it is through modding. Also, the PS4 Link, while a neat concept, is jus...

Monster Hunter Rise, Hyrule Warriors and Mario 3D World, that's about it for big sellers with known release date at the moment. Monster Hunter is definitely going to sell hardware though.

How many people even have 120fps capable displays?

The way game design works now, you can scale back anything. This is still a remake of a PS3 game, regardless of how good it looks. Reduce resolution/use dynamic, reduce lighting, reduce texture quality, etc. If you had showed someone Last of Us 2 graphics at the beginning of PS4 gen, people probably wouldn't have believed it was running in real time at all.

Game design is the thing that isn't changing. When some of the most demanding titles are being (cleverly) ported to Switch, that shows that things like AI aren't what devs are putting their time into. There are core pieces to game design that are pretty much a mainstay in the industry now, for better or worse. People know how to use them, and know that they sell. You're assuming that many devs have all these new and creative ideas that they would know how to impliment. This may ju...

If EA put even the slighest bit of effort to do well by Switch owners, they would support them. Nintendo fans are nothing, if not loyal. Software sales on the Switch are incredibly good, and I'm pretty sure Switch sales have surpassed Xbox One worldwide. EA basically removed other versions from the shop though, and are trying to charge full price for a roster update of a 360 version of a game that is poorly optimized to begin with. It's insulting to people who own the hardware, and ag...

Many games from Japan also aren't crazy-high sellers (some are though, obviously), and have far lower budgets. To really max out and optimize these systems is going to take ALOT of time and resources. For example, Last of Us 2 supposedly cost about $100 million, and years to make. Without that kind of investment, we're still not going to see games with that level of production value, art, etc, for awhile to come. We never truly see what next-gen consoles are capable of until years int...

How many exclusives will the PS5 get, I wonder? What if the Series S sells really, really well and has to be a base for all multi-platform games? Despite what most gamers here want, it's going to be the mass market that decides what we mostly get.

Bluepoint are also wizards. Many games this upcoming gen aren't going to look as good as this game. I think we're all in for more disappointment than we think concerning the hype and expectations that have been set.

I think people are nuts if they think we're not going to see dynamic resolutions again throughout this entire gen. Like every studio are masters of optimization lol. Every time a new game is going to run sub 4k on Series X and PS5, people are going to lose their minds every friggin' time too.

Correction: Not all exclusives, all multi-platform titles in general. If the Series S sells really well, then that's what the public wants, and what the market will deliver. Also, of course PS exclusives are going to look great; They have some of the best studios in the industry working with them. Most games for years to come, even on new hardware probably still won't look as good as Last of Us 2, because Naughty Dog worked on that game for like 5 years, and are arguably one of the be...

Selling 40 million would make it one of the top 10 highest selling games of all time. As much as I love Zelda, that's not going to happen anytime soon. It would have to double BotW's sales. Unless we're talking life-time sales, which if game companies continue to move forward with backwards compatibility across multiple past-gen consoles, would mean Nintendo first-party games would have the potential to sell for years. It's possible, but a bit disengenous to say "hey, Bot...

The problem with Halo lore, is that it's incredibly bloated. You can't understand the entire story from just playing the games. You have books, comics, animated series, etc, that all set up this massive expanded universe that's all canon. It's pretty daunting for someone to jump into.

People want 4k, 60fps machines with ray-tracing, at $500 that are silent and cool to the touch lol. I think people are overestimating where technology is at. These consoles pull twice as much power as the Xbox One X and PS4 pro models. They're going to get pretty warm. The question is if they're engineered well enough so that they don't overheat and function properly. If not, well then, next gen will be an absolute shit-show with failing hardware. I'd wager that won't be t...
