By that standard you could never say that an old game is one of the greatest games ever made. Would you not be able to go back and play games like the original Deus Ex, Chrono Trigger and Ocarina of Time because the graphics are bad? If so, I think you're missing the point of playing video games.

That's not the point. It's that a developer from Blizzard, you know, one of the most highly respected developers/publishers in video game history, is saying that from a game design standpoint, Breath of the Wild is a masterpiece. I would wager that almost anyone who knows anything about actually creating video games would agree. I just watched a video where major developers, including the creator of Bioshock were saying how completely blown away they are by it. The game was created wi...

I think people either forget, or are too young to remember what most games looked like. For me, the biggest jump and revelation in graphics was the difference between the SNES/Sega and PSX/N64 generation. Groundbreaking leaps were made in video game design. Microsoft also changed the game with the Xbox, and having PC/online features in a console, which are standard these days. From experience, I know games that look fantastic now will seem incredibly dated in less than a decade, in both visua...

Nintendo merged their handheld and console departments. If the Switch really takes off, they'll drop the 3ds (unfortunately) and focus all their resources on the one platform. They can't afford to have another shortage of games to play, and they know this. There will be plenty of first party support.

Nope.

The physics engine is incredible as well, and the way that the pieces of everything can interact. Almost everything that I've wondered will work in a scenario usually has. Chop down a tree, use it as a raft while using the repelling on your magnetic ability to push a piece of metal against the shore under water to propel yourself? Yup, that works. Attaching balloons to an object to make it float, and fanning air to create an air raft? Yup. Connecting metal objects on the ground together t...

You might not think so, but from a game design standpoint, maybe we should take into account what game designers think of the game? I think they would know better than most.

I'll drink to that man. I have mine docked on a little table next to my desk, which is full of other consoles and my PC. Someone who sees video games as an art will play everything they can.

It seems the only acceptable thing Nintendo could have done for them would be to release another PC in a box on par with the PS4 Pro, and they'd STILL shit on it. Anyone that has held a Switch in their hand could tell you what it is: A very impressive gaming tablet. It is what it is. Whether or not it's something they should have even created in the first place is still yet to be known.

Ever think cooling on the X2 might have been an issue, or that it may draw more battery power? When making portable technology, there are many limits to what is achievable within a small space, including, how much would the X2 have cost Nintendo to buy/manufacture in bulk? How would that price transfer to the consumer afterward? Would they still buy the device?

You're streaming a game. You need external hardware separate from the portable device to accomplish this. It's not really the same thing at all.

Not everyone likes Japanese rooted fairy tales man. I mean, personally, Zelda is my favorite series of all time, but it's not for everyone. I imagine people that like Zelda games would be more inclined to like things like anime, for example. There are plenty of gamers who probably hate anime, or even RPGs. Everyone has an opinion, and for that reason, a game that is absolute gaming perfection to me could look like garbage to someone else. I tried to get someone younger than myself to play...

There are plenty of great games on 3DS though. It's not all shovelware. Where else are people playing Monster Hunter, Pokemon and Fire Emblem right now? A good game is a good game. A console has the possibility of still collecting a fantastic library, even without much AAA support. Every Nintendo handheld has done it, the N64 did it, the GC did it. Wii and Wii U, to an extent but not so much.

Capcom, Konami, Rare, SquareEnix, etc, it's happened to so many companies, and most consumers don't realize it. For example, people begging and wondering why Retro hasn't made Metroid Prime 4, when the lead director, lead programmer and lead art designers for that entire series, basically the heart and soul of the Prime series, have all left Retro Studios.

Yeah, I realized something stank months ago, as they haven't been too keen or proud on showing anything off. Loved the ME original trilogy, will not be spending my money on this.

The technology simply doesn't exist yet to shrink a PS4 to a portable handheld. How are you going to offset the heating? Battery technology also isn't good enough to last more than an hour running something like that.

Calling it ugly is like calling a Studio Ghibli film ugly. You may not be a fan of its artistic style, but it's by no means an ugly game. The amount of work and thought that was put into BoTW is incredible if you think about games from a design standpoint.

The shooting mechanics are surprisingly solid and deep. It's an excellent online third person shooter, and designed to be competitive.

Although it has a new campaign, new multiplayer maps, new items, etc? That's like saying Battlefield 4 is Battlefield 3 Deluxe.

I enjoy the spaces between. Most of the time, I get sidetracked from the main objectives from simply exploring. I think as far as BoTW is concerned, you are either blown away by the art direction, or don't care much for the anime style that's used. If someone isn't a fan of the art style, or the Japanese influence, or the series in general, then of course it's not going to be a game for them. For me, it's a beautiful piece of art. I also am covered in Zelda tattoos, so hey...
