They said it about AW actually. Ghosts is probably the only CoD that didn't get the generic free pass treatment.
People have never been this defensive of CoD on N4G...Is there some kind of illuminati conspiracy going on?
I know they're both FPS, but this comparison is so apples to oranges it's ridiculous.
They're both not great. Saying otherwise might be denial, or you're just an unconditional fan which is fine. 4 was the peak. Had some fun with MW2 and BO 1 and 2, but the CoD part of life is over for me. It's kind of like how I haven't gotten excited about a Pokemon release since Gold/Silver.
It also has nothing to do with speed. It's more about design choices and figuring out ways to reduce button prompts.
The water in Skellige is barren filler imo, but the rest of the game is riddled with cool caves and interestingly placed monsters and journals. I would get bored of running into monster nests and bandit camps but then suddenly I found a forest spirit that summoned a pack of level 22 wolves. The other day I found ruins that had a gargoyle and a troll or something protecting them. Had to get out of Dodge.
I think I'll have to agree with you. Although I do like how Bethesda games are a lot more open-ended as far as choosing who you are. In witcher 3 you're Geralt who can occasionally steal, can't really do anything to the guards, and can sometimes choose to kill or spare someone who is morally grey. In this game, you'll have karma to contend with, you'll be able to steal, pickpocket, and kill nearly everything and one quest could have 10 different solutions just like in Fall...
I actually preferred IW back in the day. I think Black Ops was the tipping point. Now Treyarch probably are the best.
All of the games you mentioned in your comment. And 400 Days came with one of TWD seasons.
@septic Thats hardly a fair comparison considering two of Xbox's handful of exclusive franchises (yes, handful aptly describes their AAA lineup since the brand's inception) span those genres. I have yet to see any truly exclusive RPG or action/adventure game on the Xbox front period. At least the PS4 has stand-ins such as Killzone and Drive Club and these are only precursors of what's to come. Case in point, GT is now around the corner. All you did was move the goal posts again. ...
Yeah there's no way the game will look like this in motion while set to ultra. There are PS3 games that shame some of these screenshots. I think we can expect a lot more once we get our hands on it. Or even just review footage in another week or so.
If anything the dialogue looks like an evolution although I am in the camp that prefers no voice-acting for a protagonist in a franchise where you are essentially role-playing and calling all the shots.
In that case I would have said X. XII's plot is almost the same as getting a lobotomy. Maybe I'll enjoy it when I go senile?
Just as it is criminally overappreciated by others. I can sit here and list why this game is one of the worst FFs in literally every way (though it did push nice graphics on the PS2 at the time BUT lacked FMVs sorely...had maybe 5 or 6?). Saying worst gameplay is subjective because some might actually prefer repetitive MMORPG combat to turn-based. The soundtrack relies heavily on an unoriginal song (from IV I believe?) and Kiss Me Goodbye was probably the cheesiest vocal song to hit the franc...
Correct in a way. As terrible, mundane, derivative, and shallow as XII is, there are a few FFs that top it. However, I usually give FF1 a free pass for being the first as well as having a pretty deep metanarrative that is really unlike anything ever done in FF since.
Maybe we can just rely on the idiots to pave the way to free dlc and rely on the assumption that they are generally worse at games at that they're game-breaking microtransactions won't be enough to help them beat more skillful, traditional gamers? Maybe this is just optimism in the face of a gaming apocalypse though...
The people that defend this with "let people do what they want" arguments preclude logic and are in fact a detriment to the gaming industry as seen through the eyes of the consumer.
The change from linear to open was bound to affect a story-driven game in this way. Even so, the plot seems pretty sparse and incomplete as if most of the time was spent on core game design. I really enjoyed how 3 and 4 felt like you were being lead into these boss battle set-pieces as if they were the pillars of the game and the true measure of your progression. The emphasis here is more on completing every trivial thing. Means a lot more repetition, not unlike what we've already seen in...
MGS4 for its time was graphically raising the bar. 5 did not impress half as much in that regard unfortunately. It's to be expected with such an ambitious open-world game I guess. Games like Killzone and Infamous do look better. The FOX engine was stellar when Ground Zeroes was first announced, but now that MGSV is out, the standards have changed while the engine is largely the same. As such, it does look kind of dated in some ways. Still great looking but nothing special.
Just be prepared to sink in well over 100 hours lol. I think I am only 70% done in the original game and I'm sitting at about 90 hours (maybe a bit less...the playtime counter is glitchy and over-counts because it includes rest mode and pausing).
