iGAM3R-VIII,

Final Fantasy still sells fairly well outside of Japan. Game that dominate in sales in Japan, yes I agree, there is no need in it coming to the Xbox. Japan content that also sells well outside, then it makes perfect sense to offer it on other platforms like the Xbox that does well outside of Japan.

PirateThom,

So they made all of those God of War games to lose money? No, they used a very popular ip to help sell hardware and will continue making them even if they are prequels because the ip still holds incredible value for Sony. Insomniac made a lot of Ratchet and Clank games too which Sony owns the ip. Resistance was a familiar ip made by a different studio for the handheld to help drive hardware sales. Sony will use its assets like anyone else to help push hardware. Th...

What you need to do is follow the trends. How many units of the DS were sold in the first 2 years compared to the first 2 years of the 3DS. Is there a decline? Is Nintendo making less money because they had to lower prices for the 3DS which will make comparisons tricky. We all know the Vita is selling at a slower rate than the PSP did in the same timeline. So will Sony also be forced to drop the price earlier than they did for the PSP thus creating a different type of comparison?

11 disagrees so far and not one reason as to why. Quantic Dream and Sony have a partnership that works for each side. That is why they stay exclusive. Quantic Dream have the safety of having Sony fund the project while Sony has ip's that can help them sell hardware.

Which is why we need that cycle to continue. If people buy less games then less risks will be taken by the industry.

The best way to curb companies from implementing blocks for used games is to make it illegal.

They do both actually. God of War is a prime example of taking an ip and churning them out for profits. All while trying to impress people with the hardware. Little Big Planet is another. An ip that can help sell both the console and the handheld. Sony will do what it has to do to help sell not only software but also hardware. That is why they acquire exclusive ip's in the first place. It's not about how the hardware can handle the software, it's about using the software to sell h...

ichimaru,

1. MS could come out and react to the PS4 announcement by showing the next Xbox right away but that would show signs of desperation

2. MS could reply to the rumors but that would lead to more questions about the new Xbox which they are obviously not ready to reveal just yet

3. MS can just let the rumors run wild until they are ready to make an official announcement

I think they are smart to just stay on course. The ...

It will only be the death of them if they keep coming out with products that are expensive to make but people are not willing to pay for them. The PS3 started out that way, even at $599 they were losing money. Vita was promoted as a high end handheld gaming device and sales haven't really shown a huge demand for that. Other divisions have also felt it. Samsung have come in and took over the TV market that Sony used to dominate. Again consumers are not willing to pay a premium at times. <...

What's interesting is how many of these games will only be available digitally. Which is odd how gamers on here are so vocal against used game sales and DRM yet don't really say much in this case.

Agreed.

It goes like this Valve >>>>> Sony >> Microsoft.

How can something that is also on the PC considered to be 'exclusive'?

This is another reason why the no used games and always online rumors don't make much sense.

darthv72,

What they could do is make it so that you can only sign in on one device at a time. That would cut out multiple people playing the same purchased content. Meaning your friend or your brother couldn't pretend they were you.

DRM has already existed on the Playstation Network.

Sony has proven with games like Heavy Rain and Little Big Planet that they are willing to take risks. It's a good partnership for both parties because Quantic Dream doesn't have to worry as much about the funding and Sony knows they will get the attention of it being exclusive.

However Sony will still run it's content as a business which is why they pushed the Playstation Move into Heavy Rain instead of the DLC.

I sure hope this upcoming generati...

Not to me. This looks sort of like it's made by Linn (high end audio equipment).

I would actually prefer something like this as it's easy to store in an entertainment center and doesn't clash with everything else.

As long as it's quiet and doesn't run too hot I don't really care too much what it looks like. Unless it's something like the Gamecube.

I've always thought that, those who buy a lot of new games probably offset that cost by selling them to fund new ones. Without the ability to sell or trade consumers will buy less or wait for prices to drop.

As for selling less hardware but being more profitable, there is a trickle down effect to that. Everything from peripherals and controllers and even online fees all account for extra revenue. If you have 20 million systems but lose money on the hardware it could be ma...

All I know is I'd not only like to see it but play it.

Of course. This isn't like steaming a movie. These games were designed with buttons and analog sticks. They would have to remap the controls for them to work and even then it wouldn't be as good.
