Some people act as if just because there has been no mention of the new Xbox that there isn't things going on in the background with these publishers.
Can anyone show me any confirmation whatsoever from an actual Microsoft employee that states when they were going to announce the new system? All I have seen was something from Major Nelson hinting it was going to be at E3 and a countdown. Other than that everything has been speculation.
Sony is getting ext...
darkride66,
"Point One - in terms of dedicated gaming handhelds, the Vita has no new competition on the horizon."
That's like saying PC gaming has no new competition. Of course they both do. Do you really think EA and Ubisoft and all of those developers are sitting in a room thinking, how do we make games for Vita? It's such a niche market that only competes with itself? Ridiculous.
"Point Two - The Wii-U, while no one is saying...
The letter U can no longer be used in competing software.
Hicken,
"Vita can, apparently, stand a price cut to jumpstart some sales, something we've already seen take effect;
Wii U, according to Nintendo, cannot.
I'm not saying the Wii U is doomed to fail, but just as Sony at LEAST cut the price in Japan to get more mileage out of the Vita's most important market, Nintendo needs to do something to get the Wii U rolling, or its competition may put it under for good."
It also took Sony a ye...
"Why not cater to both? Why does it have to be either one or the other?"
It doesn't. Which is why Nintendo is trying to distance itself from the Wii being aimed at casual only gamers. It also begs the question post-Kinect on the Xbox 360 how Microsoft will market the new Xbox. They need to have more balance. You don't shift resources from one to the other just because the market is changing. What you do is expand so that you serve not only the core gamers fr...
darkride66,
You don't support a device with ip's like Call of Duty and Need for Speed on a niche device. You are also not aiming games like Lego:Harry Potter and Rayman Origins to only 20 and 30 year-olds. The library is filled with games to attract as many gamers as possible, just like the PS3 was.
The PS3 was also not aimed at a niche market. It was actually the cheapest bluray player at the time. The problem was bluray was still rather expensive wh...
True, two great looking new IP's which is a way to go out with a bang before new hardware arrives.
Did you know Sony tried to own the IP?

It's always good to see positive growth in gaming, PC or any other sector. I imagine the stalled release of new console hardware helped generate interest as well.
JoGam,
"When that question start getting asked, i start wondering are we losing sight of what makes games great."
Well in the case of Battlefield it's actually the multiplayer. It is the area most gamers prefer. A game like Bioshock is the opposite. Some games are much better for it's single player campaign while others are for the multiplayer. Some can do both well.
SOCOM is another example of a game that doesn't really need a s...
"the article is focusing on console...so dont go off the track.."
It isn't off-track considering consoles are becoming more and more like how PC gaming is. The PS4 for example is very much like a PC architecture and will have a hard drive. We are already seeing games only available in digital form on consoles as well. All first party titles from Sony and some 3rd party games are also trying to curb used sales by requiring an online code in the current generation...
-Superman-,
"Women are not a small special market on the fringe of the core," Abernathy said. "Women are the new core."
He isn't just talking about the Xbox 360 audience but gaming in general. It is true that more women are playing games than ever before. It is a market that is growing and of course Microsoft wants to be a part of it.
Sony also brought social gaming into Playstation Home:

"So, what exactly is wrong with Godmars290 thinking? I'm also happy with the PSEye2 as long as it's optional. If optional means I can't then use sales for flag waving, I don't really care. What I DO care about is having a choice."
Even if it's optional you know they will be throwing resources behind it. Sony seems to manage it better than the other two. We seen Move titles come out while Sony still keeping it;s main focus on hardcore games. If Mo...
"Vita was aimed at a niche market from the start"
No it wasn't show me where Sony said this. Are you actually trying to tell us Sony expected the Vita to sell less than the PSP? That sold well over 70 million, that's not a niche market. How can you honestly say it's a niche market when even Sony themselves have said it is not meeting expectations? So why do we have forum members who are actually working harder for Sony than they are themselves to make su...
Anyone have any comments from the pre-release of the PS3 and what developers said back then? It would be interesting to see what developers like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch said back in 2005-2006.
"I think that it will be really interesting to see what Xbox fires back with."
That's the thing, we don't know yet and they either don't know or unable to tell us. What we do know is Sony is really trying to do everything right and seems to have not only listened but look to correct any mistakes they made with the PS3. Now we will have to see what Microsoft plans to do to correct any mistakes they made. From my point of view it's obviously coming out...
It's a win-win for anyone actually from all the rave reviews. If you have a PS3 and a Xbox 360 you'd probably go with the PS3 version as it's slightly better and you get a free copy of the first one like you said. If you don't have a PS3 it's still good on the Xbox 360. Obviously the PC is the one to get if your PC can handle it.
Not sure what the point is getting it twice unless your PC doesn't handle it very well. I'm hoping it doesn't get mi...
From the article,
"As you'd expect, console performance is less impressive overall, with the significantly older hardware often struggling to maintain a stable update when the engine is under stress. Frame rates are generally higher on the PS3 across a basic run of play factoring in various scenarios, but particularly when under load, where the added smoothness translates into more responsive controls during intense fire fights where quick reactions count. Unfortunately, this...
I imagine much like GTA 5 this game was also in development for quite awhile. Not sure when development kits came out for the new Xbox and PS4. It's just one of those titles that is coming out during the transition of last gen to next gen.
God of War is another game that people could have argued for it to be released on the PS3 but it made sense at the time for the PS2.
I wonder if we will continue to see less 3rd party exclusive games next gen? I guess ...
Prophet-Gamer,
"The Xbox brand is nowhere near as strong as PlayStation"
Really? Tell that to Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Activision. Some of the biggest publishers in the world.
As for underestimating the release of the PS4? I doubt it. This has been the longest generation ever. If anything Microsoft have stalled more than many had predicted. The Xbox 360 came out in 2005.
The thing is we want strong competition and it'...
