MGS4 has the best sound I've ever heard in a game, hands down. That impressed me more than anything else, honestly. Made me glad I'd picked up a solid 5.1 system before I played it.
Holding off on the big titles while they get a handle on what they can do with the hardware is a good thing, actually. It allows them to maintain a high standard of quality for those brands. Sony took the long view and decided that keeping their big titles looking good was more important than putting them out early. That's one of the reasons I respect them as a company - they're more concerned about the long term, not just what shareholders want this quarter.
My biggest "WTF" moment in gaming was actually in The Darkness. I was shocked by the way a certain scene involving the girlfriend turned out. I'd never expected it.
Hopefully we'll get to see some higher-res screenshots fairly soon.
I'm actually inclined to disagree. I think a lot of people will avoid it initially because they don't like stealth games, but as it gets around that MGS4 can be played as a solid third-person shooter instead if you so choose, more people will give it a shot.
Positive feedback for posting something fascinating. O.o
You must not have checked recently. Asia and Europe are both bigger now. :P
The US isn't the only country in the world that matters. Welcome to the global economy.
If third-party games weren't generally garbage, I'd be bothered by this. Hopefully there'll be more quality third-party software coming to the PS3 as dev kits improve, but believe me, I'm not gonna be slitting my wrists over not getting to play OPERATION DARKNESS. :P
Speaking as a PS3 owner...Yeah, this article is pretty much spot-on. The RPGs just aren't there on the PS3 yet. White Knight and FF XIII+spinoffs will be great, I'm sure, but that's still only a handful of games. Quality over quantity, I suppose, but still...If the games aren't there, the players won't be, either.
I found The Darkness pretty emotional, too. That game had a great story, and the "breakup," as one magazine called it, was quite emotionally jarring. That was probably the first game I found particularly moving, but then, I've never played FFVII.
122k units in one week? :o Not bad...
Sony actually would let them license Blu-ray technology. Y'know why? Not only would they make money off their own system, but they'd make money off their competition's system, as well.
"about .14 cents a day.
about 1.00 dollar a week
about $4.16 a month."
Look at it from a total cost of ownership perspective. Assuming the 360's lifespan is 6 years, you're looking at a total additional cost of $250, and that's assuming the first year of gold is free. I don't remember how long the trial period is with the purchase of a new system, so I went long on my guess.
This is what makes me chuckle whenever I hear someone talk about the 36...
Sounds to me like Live subscribers are paying $50 a year to get advertised to. >.< Hopefully competition from Sony brings the cost down, or eliminates it entirely. It's not right of them to advertise to you, and charge you a fee on top of it.
Preying on the ignorant isn't a good long-term business plan, Toshiba. :P
Excuse me, I'm a little sleepy after watching those.~
This sucks. The first game was great. Hopefully they decide to use the IP, if differently...*sigh*
They really need to be careful about canceling exclusives. They're what is driving this console at the moment.
Who's TVG, and why should anyone care what they think?
Looks good. I like it more without the interview going on in the background.
It is of some interest that the carbine and bullseye clips are smaller, 30 rounds and 50 rounds, respectively. On the up side, the amount of ammo you can carry for each seems to have gone up drastically, and the fire rate on the carbine looks to be faster.
It's strange that the four health bar system seems to have gone away. I wonder if that'll be returning in the final iteration of the game...
It's worth it. The audio in MGS4 is that good.
