Don't get so excited. The article claims the "new CELL chip" is faster, but it's highly unlikely that this will end up faster when inside the PS3. In all liklihood, the chips will remain at the same clock speed as the original Playstation 3's CELL chips to ensure backwards compatibility with all software (Faster SPUs could easily throw timing off in a lot of titles). The FASTER chips will probably end up in other devices, such as Toshiba's TVs that have the CELL in them.
Uhhh...not that I want to piss on your chips or anything, but this isn't actually anything special or surprising. This is how it has always been: You get a processor and build it using the latest technology. Then a few months or years down the line, you build it using the newest technology, allowing you to make them smaller.

The PS2 still brings Sony in some money, so why should they roll out FREE BC when they can still get people to buy the console? Just makes business sense.

I hate to break it to you, but a better deal for you isn't necessarily a better deal for someone else. It's entirely subjective. One person might prefer Killzone, another might prefer Halo, for those people the two consoles have vastly different values.

No, the only reason he's done that is to APPEAR neutral. It's an attempt at showing that he hasn't just picked a bunch of components that favour the PS3, which is actually exactly what he's done.
Plus, as mentioned elsewhere, everyone knows a price cut is coming for the 360 (probably tomorrow), so why didn't he wait for that to be truly fair?

So? It proves just how flaky his numbers are. It's easy to compare two different products like this and make the outcome look however you want by picking and choosing various accessories in the right mix. Sure, people say they're "facts", but they're selectively picked facts, there are plenty of other "facts" he conveniently forgets to mention, or if he does mention them they're a footnote at the botto...
Yeah but don't forget, many people KNEW the PS3 slim was coming and were holding out for it. Likewise, the 360 is expected to have a price drop soon as well, so for the same reasons, it's understandable that nobody's buying them just yet.
I'm still expecting the PS3 to outsell the 360 after all the price cuts, but I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

bigj: I don't think you realise just how huge Sony is as a company. Even if the PS3 absolutely tanked and cost them billions, they'd still be around. They make a lot more than just consoles.
Plus, are you forgetting that unlike the N64, the "expensive" PS3 also pushed a format for a completely different industry?
For every PS3 sold, Sony makes money back on Blu-ray purchases as well as games so the "loosing money" argument doesn't hold up well.

I think there's something many people on here don't want to admit: The market is big. Huge, even. Bigger than hollywood ffs, there's enough room for 3 competitors, especially when one of them isn't even targeting your audience.

It's far too soon for Natal, I don't think any games have even been announced to have Natal support. Still, it's quite a price increase, something must be different with the SKU.
They're comparing it because ODST has nearly as many preorders. Nothing else even comes close, not even MW2 on the PS3.

These articles seriously need to stop getting approved. Having that SAME pic of the slim that came from neogaf on a shopping site does NOT prove anything other than the incompetence of whoever put it up there.
We know the slim is coming, we know its coming soon, but these articles are just hot air.

It's great value if you make use of all the features it comes with. But what if you JUST want to play games? Sounds crazy, but many people simply aren't interested in Blu-ray, hell a lot of people are still using Standard Def TVs. For them, what are they actually getting for their money that a 360 couldn't do?
Not saying the 360 is better, I'm saying the "value" argument only holds up if you actually want/need those bits and pieces.

Get whatever one you prefer, it's really not going to make a huge difference.
