Ignorance. Games on the PS3 are compressed as well. The problem isn't storage space, the problem is loading times. Data is compressed because reading from disk (be it BD-ROM or DVD-ROM) is what takes the longest, so it is actually faster to read less data and decompress it on the fly since the CPU is just sitting idle anyway.
Besides, have you ever heard of lossless compression?
