This is the new PS3 model with DVD9 in it? Ha! I kill myself sometimes... Seriously, I'm kidding. Hopefully this is the rumored $399 SKU... In 45 days we'll know. That certainly would be the right timing for a holiday release...

Wouldn't it have to be materially different from the current PS3 to need a new certification? Just changing drive size or components on the motherboard doesn't require all new registration, does it? If that's the case, what could possibly be mater...

The "51 Gigs" were available and playable on every HD-DVD drive that has shipped so far. If (and this goes for blu-ray, too), increasing layers of data comes at the expense of some or all previous players not all reading the disk, it is pointless as the studios won't release in anything that alienates anyone. I saw the announcement but I haven't seen anything that states whether is is possible to do triple layer and have it read on all existing players...

Porn is easy, cheap (and free) to get online. That wasn't the case when the beta/vcr war raged. I don't doubt there is a lot of porn that makes its way to DVD, but the porn industry is low budget for the most part and will stick with DVD format until they have an alternative that is just as cheap. I personally don't think porn will matter at all...

Thoughtful response and I see you agree with my "not a chance to catch it" in 2008. I do want to point out that I am "averaging" 360 sales at 250K/month over the course of a year. Given the number of consoles Microsoft moved in Nov/Dec of last year, I don't think 250K/month, on average, is unrealistic. It is, if anything, quite low.

As far as implying that Sony is in any better position financially in respect to the ability to lower the price of the conso...

I have a 360, PS2, and Wii. I'm interested in a PS3 but they are too expensive. If sony released a PS3 40gig with no memory card and no wifi along with SW only backward compatibility and included a second controller plus motorstorm and resistance I'd be all over it. $399 is the magic number for that combo. I'd cancel my H3 preorder in a MF heartbeat and jump on it... I don't have a HD TV so blueray is irrelevant. I just want to play games. Period.

Yes, the PS3 has outsold the 360 during launch months and maybe one other? But on the whole, on a global basis, the 360 has outsold the PS3 on a global basis pretty much every other month. You might look into the historical sales...

I don't think H3 can do H2 numbers -- maybe within a year or so if it continues to sell consoles and has legs... BUT I also don't think that ANYONE would even BEGIN to call a game that sells, say... 4.5 MILLION COPIES (half of halo 2) a failure by any stretch of the imagination...

That the PS3 will pass the 360 in 08. It isn't going to happen. Mathematically the numbers don't lie. We know MS is going to have a strong 4th Q due to Halo and other titles. At best I would suspect a "tie" between the PS3 and the 360 through the end of this year. The PS3, on a worldwide basis, is about 6.3 million units behind the 360. That would mean the PS3 would need to sell 500K units MORE than the 360 on a monthly basis to catch the 360 in 13 months or end of January 200...

I love the art style. Hopefull these types of indie games remind the big publishing houses that gaming coming first and hype has no place. It seems VGs are headed down the same path as Movies -- hype the crap out of the blockbusters that end up as "meh" movies but the indie films often are absolute works of art...

There are three halo versions: Regular ($60), Limited ($70) and Legendary ($130). The number of limited and legendary sold in relation to regular is pretty high at the two EB/Gamestops near me and I suspect -- at least for the first shipment -- we are talking an average $70 Retail price or something along those lines... Or 200M/70 = 2.85 Million copies. This estimate, in my opinion, is kind of low for the first week's sales. They will probably be well over 1.5M preorders by the time the ga...

The previous versions have enjoyed a rabid (although small) following. It is strangely addictive once you start to plan things out and focus on the environment. I thought the whole idea was stupid but after playing the game, I enjoy it for what it is -- mindless entertainment. I am thoroughly disappointed, however, that they didn't up the graphics significantly... If the title is priced any more than $20-25, I don't think it is worth it because it truly is a port in every sense of the wor...

I think they are already diverting stock to the U.S. as the numbers in the U.S. seem to be up. Though I've seen stock a couple of times here in Texas very recently, they still sold out very, very quickly and I haven't seen anything since. Nintendo may also feel like they have a big enough lead in Japan right now that diverting to the U.S. is a smart move. There are 4 or 5 Wii games that are on my current have-to-have list through Christmas and at least that many on my 360 list. I don't kn...

This title is looking pretty good. It's a shame they didn't try to pull off 60fps, though. After playing 60fps racers and going back to 30fps racers, there just isn't any comparison.

The environments in PGR4 -- and I'm only speaking to the environments here -- are the best I've seen so far in this next gen race. I'm also specifically talking about in-game. People keep using playbacks and CG cutscenes to show the title's quality but thats a crock and the discerning gamer kno...

I agree totally with what you are saying and I hate to see people get burned -- especially kids who have to save or a person that budgets and saves toward buying ONE title.

The problem is that there really is no way to accommodate the true "mistakes" made. No matter how well you spell out the rules, there will be people who will take advantage of the system. Those that do ruin it for everyone, but that is the nature of everything. Rules are in place for the rule br...

I'm writing off the suggestion as stupid. Yes, people don't all read reviews and just buy the game only to find out it is rubbish. Guess what? The same happens with movies, books, games, CDs, and pretty much any "intellectual" good. People know that if they buy a crap movie, that's it. Same with a CD and so on. Why should they not expect the same with a piece of software? Exceptions can't be made for the few "uninformed" because everyone would suddenly claim "I...
