Will last through the Holidays... But not beyond. It will be business as usual in the game wars. This article is shallow-thinking opinion at best as anyone who has a few extra brain cells knows that Halo 3 is going to move SOME 360s and is going to sell a lot of copies, but one game alone doesn't decide the war... It takes a constant flow of good software and aggressive pricing to ultimately win the battle.
I mean 360 numbers are so low, they aren't worth mentioning. The sales difference is so great, it's not even competition. It's news that the Wii is outselling the PS3 by a lower margin because the PS3 actually has a chance of catching the Wii and selling very well in Japan. The same can't be said about the 360 so it's rather pointless to compare the sales ratios.
Imagine Coke and Pepsi battling it out for 1st place in the software drink market... Then there is Jolt Cola to ...
A guy walks into a video game store and asks to buy a video game console to play a specific game he is interested in. Let's use DMC4 for this example and assume it is 3 disks on the 360 and 1 on the PS3. The salesman asks the customer which console he wants (PS3 and 360 being the only options). The customer says, I don't know for sure. How much are they? The salesman states that one console is 500, and the other is 380. The customer inquires as to the difference in consoles... salesman'...
More cars, more tracks, lots of vehicle upgrades, two player split screen, online races... let's see. 1080P 60FPS would be nice but I'd settle for 720P 60FPS... That's all. Nothing more.
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft gets down to $99 bucks or something along those lines in their next version of the HD-DVD attachment. Once they do, they *might* encourage developers to support HD-DVD owners by providing a *choice* on how to play the game... Maybe provide both HD-DVD and DVD9 in the same package for Multi-disk format...
Yeah, it would go against everything they have said but as long as they refuse to publish games that are ONLY on HD-DVD, they'll be alrigh...
How much "stealth" has gone into these last two updates to "update" Live's ability to detect pirated Halo 3 copies?... Or any pirated games for that matter... I know the battle rages on between the pirates and Microsoft and by putting it in these "updates" quietly, and have it go active on launch day, it won't give hackers time to get new firmware to play their pirated games at launch...
Just a thought, but if I were MS, I'd do the same...
Virtual goods would fail. The problem is that they DO. If the game "experience" is ruined by the ability to trade virtual goods in MMO type games and such then the developer simply needs to make it impossible to do so. If the developers allow it in their games, these types of businesses will survive.
The video on the left turns to 360 footage at some point before the video ends. I think it's right before the camera "flash". This game definitely looks cool and is on my list...
I want gaming system and not a high def movie player. give me a better price and/or free GAMES! If I just happen to get a high def player in the deal so be it but I want f'n games!
I don't doubt that at 249 the PS3 would sell a helluva lot of consoles. My question in that, though, is will Microsoft just walk away or will they cut theirs as well? Obviously, when pricing gets down to the 249 mark there can't be such a big price delta between the two consoles and yeah, the PS3 may begin to outsell the 360 by the necessary numbers.
I just don't believe the pricing will be possible until 2009... If that happens, it will still take a year to close the gap. ...
The current lead the XBOX 360 has over the PS3 means it will 2009 before the PS3 CATCHES the 360. The delta is currently a little over 6 million and will likely increase slightly through year end. It would mean that the PS3 would have to OUTSELL the 360 by at least 500,000 units per month to CATCH the 360. That would be January 2009 at the earliest... That's a ridiculous estimate to make. Whatever the PS3 does pricewise Microsoft will surely act in a timely manner to mitigate the damage ...
These "in-garage" images are phenomenal. Can we get some "during actual gameplay" ones, too?
The deal is limited. A total of 150 players were given away. That is far from desperation, isn't it? It is meant to create market buzz. It moves ver few players but more importantly everyone now knows the Matrix is out (I didn't know) and it is on HD - DVD (I didn't know). It's called smart marketing.
Now, if it was an unlimited, world-wide deal then it would be desperation but in a limited capacity it will will serve its purpose.
Calling it desperate and sad? People got a phenomenal HD movie. AND A FREE HD DVD player. If this was here, I'd be in line, too. Even if you are a blueray fan, you'd be crazy to pass up a deal like this if you are even remotely a Matrix fan. Sheesh, fanboy ingnorance knows no bounds.
He actually chose gameplay over all else? Pshaw. He's biased! Get a rope!
After playing the butter-smooth forza 2 at 60fps, I'm willing to give up some environmental detail to get 60fps...
The videos on Gamersyde are big but at least they are HD.
There was a screenshot of the title screen released already. That could be static plus a display box...
Get the videos DIRECTLY from gamersyde.com (from blimblim as mentioned above). the game is beautiful -- just beautiful...
Hopefully it works well with the microsoft force feedback wireless racing wheel. (without the smoke effects, lol)
"Reports" or RROD FUD has decreased dramatically overall. Is it because less new machines are failing? Is it because the RROD anti-360 message no longer has as much FUD value because the answer is always "Yeah, fine, but I have a 3 year warranty so STFU."?
Either way, the hardware failure topic seems to have died off rather drastically and I don't think it is going to hurt Microsoft going into the holidays.
A stress test would be nice, thoug...
