I don't see how it could, as a life long console gamer I have zero interest in a Steam Box, just like I've had zero interest in Steam itself.
I like physical media and kicking back in my $1200 Lazyboy and playing some games with buddy's. I don't see how a thing that is supposed to cost upwards of $1000 is going to take away from consoles that cost less than half that.
Not anytime soon, I think Gamestop beefed up when there was a boom in the industry pre-smartphone and tablet. I'd often see 3 Gamestops on the same road only a few miles apart.
I think they should never have gotten out of the retro business, there is huge money in retro, they should still be selling Gamecube, PS2, PS1, Xbox, Gameboy ect.
I think they are evolving a bit as well, they sell tablets, MP3 players and things like that.
Funny, out of 235 Xbox 360 games, I count 25 in my collection that are FPS. I think American gamers like more than shooters. Sports, action, open world, we like it all. I cant really account for what someone across the world thinks or perceives us as.
Microsoft likes money and is perceived as greedy right? They might like money, but they aren't stupid. They have to absolutely know that core gamers buy consoles at launch.
The Xbox 360 will continue to sell to casuals with the first Kinect and all the apps and things like that. The next Xbox will no doubt feature Kinect 2.0, but I believe if it is 1:1, which is possible now, then it's a whole new ballgame and not aimed at casuals.
Sony has a camera...
I'd take a lot of features with a grain of salt, Jack Tretton said the specs and design were not 100% finished, so anything can change. Remember when they showed off the PS3 with the huge body and all of those ports and the boomerang controller? Things can definitely change from now till November/December.
They haven't shown the console yet, the specs are impressive, but I'd know whether or not it'd be a year one or day one purchase with a price.
$399 is where I'd like to see it.
I just want to see the damn console and...
Would like to see
New platform IP
New Adventure IP
Backwards compatibility
Strong third party support
Larger friends list and social aspects to compete with Mii Verse
Something big like Alan Wake 2 or Project Gotham 6
I want physical games, I hate digital content because you never actually own the game that way.
I just said I don't believe Sony is truly thinking that way.
If they thought disc was the future why make the PSPGO?
I only have a 150 gig a month bandwidth, so I'd be totally screwed if a console maker went digital only.
Because they had to show that they will support motion controls from the start. Who knows we might even see a Move packed in with every PS4.
They needed to attract a lot of different people, gamers play more than first person shooters.
If they see a disc based future, why are they making such a push for digital content? They didn't even announce until after the reveal that the PS4 would have a Blu Ray player.
They obviously spent a lot of money purchasing a company that streams disc free. They released the PSPGO and offer digital games with PS+.
I love disc based media, but I think this is just them trying to convince consumers, but I wish it were true.
Not sure why everyone is all up in arms about the Ram, nobody seemed to mention it much when the Xbox 360 had more than the PS3.
I think both consoles will be comparable, realistically much like this generation. Those hoping for that little extra thing to beat your chest over need to give it a rest.
We actually don't know anything about the next Xbox, hopefully it's on par so that developers can make even games for all consoles concerned.
One thing about the Xbox and Xbox 360 is that they were both easy hardware to work with, Microsoft is a software company at heart and this is the reason.
The next Xbox will obviously be close to PC so that it is easy to work on and code for. Since I believe 8 gigs of Ram is overkill and probably wont be used for years to come, it doesn't matter the speed of the Ram for the next Xbox. DDR5 isn't a ton faster than DDR3, if we are to believe that is what the next Xbox u...
I don't think it was a slight on the next Xbox, because Ubisoft cant say anything regarding the next Xbox. I'm sure if they can get it running on Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3, they can get it running on 8 gigs of whatever Ram the next Xbox is running.
People are getting way ahead of themselves.
It'll be fine because Sony has done a good job at conditioning people to not have that feature. They saw that people will re-buy old games over and over again, so why bother implementing it?
That being said, the Wii U is backwards compatible, and if the next Xbox is as well, that would be a bit of a blow against Sony and the PS4.
Paying to stream games over the internet that you already bought isn't backwards compatibility, if it were, Nintendo would...
I think you put too much stock into winning console generations. I jumped full board into the Dreamcast and I had no regrets, I feel like I was happier in the first couple of years of that console than PS2 owners were with theirs.
There is obviously new competition from a lot of different areas, smartphones and tablets. Sony didn't win the past generation and you still seem to enjoy that console yes?
To me, numbers are for stock people, I play what I wa...
I only have a couple of saves on the cloud service and it seems to be working for me.
That is an odd title considering the Gears titles all played differently. Gears 3 was the fastest paced and my favorite because they introduced Death Match. If Judgment plays anything like 3 I'll have something to do for the next year+
I think you meant strong with this one, not won. Won is something the Baltimore Ravens did at the Superbowl.
You are correct, I haven't seen anything from Microsoft yet, but I do prefer the Microsoft platforms, even if I do end up with all consoles pretty much every generation.
I suppose if they try and release something at $500 I will pass on it, I have a set price I'm willing to spend for a new console and it tops out at $400.
I ...
This is one I'll definitely pick up with the next Xbox, might rent on the Wii U just to see how they use the Gamepad with it.
Well how many consoles should we keep hooked up? I have a Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, Gamecube and Dreamcast hooked up right now. Luckily my PS3 is backwards compatible. I don't see myself hooking up a PS4 and 720 in addition to what is already hooked up.
Backwards compatibility with the next consoles is far more important then previous generations because Microsoft and Sony have built up these ecosystems with Achievements and Trophies.
I hope the next Xbox is...
