WE used to have one CD or DVD with the base game and that was it. Then DLCs took hold and some devs started to reduce content of the core game and then release the cut content as DLC. Then microtransactions came in, first in games where the base content was free but gamers had to pay for more advanced content or for weaponry. This then made the jump to AAA games and then....One can just go on and on about the slippery slope of greed that has consumed much of the gaming industry.

I suspect it will be announced either later this year or early next year if Sony sees a possible threat from Xbox One X but if not, it will more likely be released in 2020. It will probably play all PS4 and PS4 Pro games and PSVR 2 will be released alongside this time. Death Stranding and FF7 Remake will probably be launch games and PS5 may well be the last Sony console to take discs.
Sony has had an excellent year delivering loads of games for eight months and now it is for Nintendo to take us through to the end of the year with Mario, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, etc. So Nintendo is it, but don't forget, though all the games that the PS4 has had released this year will also still be selling by the bucket loads come the holiday season and the PS4 still has a few releases left this year.

It feels so good to have Nintendo back doing what it does est - excellent 1st party games for a console that is about fun rather than power. Zelda was a good start, Mario will be excellent! 2017 is turning out to the best year ever for gaming.
God of War (4) looks set to be the most ambitious GOW game yet. The effort Santa Monica are putting into the world building and mythology points to another major trilogy heading our way. I can't wait.

What is a joke is Xbox and Microsoft. The PS4 Pro was intended to be a small upgrade, not like a brand new console created by Microsoft just because the previous two in the last three years have failed to outsell the competition. I mean how many tries does one need?

Yup! Agreed. The over expectations are self-inflicted when it should be about enjoying the gameplay that is possible. If you want Doom to look as good as it should, play it on the PS4 Pro or the Xbox One X. This year was the best I can remember in over 30 years of gaming. This was down to mainly all those releases on the PS4 and a couple of RTS games making their return on PC and the return of Nintendo in a big way!. The game was likely in development before the Switch and was probably started during the early days of the WiiU as Erik7357 comments below. The devs have probably been improving the visuals steadily over the duration of the development of the Switch and release and finally, the visuals are in keeping with the power of the Switch.
