I think that between Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft has NO chance. As for between Sony and Nintendo, each survives irrespective of the other and one can even suggest that each supplement and complement the other so most gamers will have both and buy games for both. I suspect that both Sony and Nintendo will have another excellent year and the one that edges it will be the one that has released the best games by the end of the year.

The truth is that even if Microsoft can afford it doesn't mean the subject of the interest wants to sell. It also does not mean that even if they could buy EA, or Valve or whatever, it would make sense to do so (cost-benefit analysis, etc.). Finally, even if all the stars aligned and EA or Valve was affordable and wanted to sell, it is a BIG question whether Microsoft can do anything with such a purchase. Looking at how MS has mismanaged so many former major studios that it bought sugg...

The statement is so ridiculous. The whole Xbox One strategy was anti-consumer and the gamers rejected it. The truth is that Sony had a better strategy focused on gaming and not television, having to be online 24 hrs or curtailing gamers rights with regard to ownership of games, sharing and selling. Sony wanted to focus on an older but tried and tested model which has been the backbone of PS1, PS2 and, most effectively, PS3 where it was the exclusives that allowed the PS3 to catch-up and su...

Unbelievable! Just recently Phil was talking down single-player games as not being popular anymore despite the fact that Sony and PS4 last year kept selling single-player games by the bucketload and the biggest releases for the PS4 were...single-player games. Microsoft and Phil are shameless. At this rate, Microsoft will also lose the next generation.

"God of War PS4 Downgrade" - The game is only on PS4 in the first place as it is from one of Sony's own studios. This fact alone ensures that the game cannot be downgraded as t was made for certain specifications in the first place. Even if one insisted that the various scenes have been downgraded, for all we know these scenes may have been changed deliberately for all sorts of reasons none of which have anything to do with downgrading. We will only know when the game is rele...

Talk is cheap. To date, Microsoft has not fulfilled the many promises and grand announcements that were made over the last four years, usually to fool die-hard Xboners. I could list all the missteps and missed opportunities but what would be the point? That Phil is not happy announcing games that are two or more years from release is just an excuse. Sony has not had any problems because they announced games like Death Stranding, God of War, and Spiderman PS4 more than 2 or 3 years prior t...

That Game Informer cover is great! I can't wait to play GOW and I hope it is out in March although if it took a few months longer, I wouldn't mind as I would rather the game was as good as the devs can make it. I still have a backlog of games to get through so the wait isn't too bad.

Except Bluehole and PUBG is not for sale. Wishful thinking aside, even if Microsoft buys the company and the IP, there is no guarantee that either will flourish under Microsoft management. If recent history is anything to go by, PUBG and Bluehole are better off without Microsoft.

I agree with Nyxus below. The PS4 withstood the releases of Switch and Xbox One X last year with the line-up of exclusives the PS4 had. This year with God Of War, Spiderman PS4, Detroit: Become Human, Yakuza 6, and so many other exclusives, the PS4 will do just as well if not better.

I have still got games from the Holiday 2016 and Spring 2017 periods that I have yet to play - there are just so many games on the PS4, exclusives, multi-plats, and for PSVR, I am haveing ...

Surely, the writer jests! "The last few years have been light on the exclusive front"? Poor.

I think it would be prudent to wait until the game is released. All that glitters isn't always gold. I hope Konami actually deliver a very good game as it would be awful for Metal Gear Solid to fall from the high esteem previous games have been held.

Sony goes from strength to strength. Last year was a goldmine for PS4 games and this year promises to be just as good if not better with God of War and Spiderman PS4 due. I wonder how many console units the latter will shift...

Sony has perfected how it manages console gaming since the PS1 days and has amassed and nurtured first party studios that are among the best game studios in the world. Naughty Dog, Guerilla, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica and Japan studios rank as the premier developers but the rest of Sony's studios are not far behind. With studios like these and collaborations with the likes of Kojima, From Software and Insomniac, and the support of other second and third party studios, it is no wonder th...

An analyst.suggests that the marketing deals Sony has with some major third-party titles are not a factor in buying decisions. I would suggest that this may be the case with hard-core gamers but as for casual buyers such as parents or those especially those buying the console as a gift for a family member, the marketing deals may well sway decisions. In any case, the PS4 numbers are now in excess of 70 million so whatever Sony is doing is working, okay Gamingbolt?

As for ...

What Microsoft did right - Come out with a decent console that is the most powerful at present. It was not necessary though as spending on new games and IPs would have had better results. The new console is overshadowed by what Microsoft did wrong - lack of major first party games in 2017 and an over-reliance on old games through backward compatibility, multiplatform games, and occasional timed exclusives.

Microsoft is now in a tough situation. It has spent a large chu...

Gamingbolt is a mouthpiece for Microsoft and hence anything from Sony is dealt with negativity. Pachter is, well Pachter - how he has managed to last this long in his field is a wonder.

I disagree with the article. Sony delivered games like never before and 2017 will rank as the finest year ever for Sony. There were just so many excellent games released throughout 2017. I still have games I haven't played from 2016 and yet I have another backlog of 2017 games and I daresay 2018 might well be the same. How wonderful! Keep the games coming, Sony!

I found Wolfenstein 2 to be the best shooter this year. The sequel was not quite as good as the original from 2014 but it was still a fun single player experience enhanced by the opportunity to slay Nazis in a game.

I have played Call of Duty from the first game released on PC and I could not help but compare COD WW2 with the first five or six WW2 Call of Duty games and, unfortunately, as good as it was, it was just not as good as the first 2 or even COD: World at War. Ho...

The game is shaping up to be the best God of War yet. It doesn't matter what other game is released next year on the PS4, be it Spiderman or Ghosts of Tsushima (although this is more likely a 2019 release), God of War will be very successful.
