The EA boss is sorry because enough customers and gamers complained about loot boxes and sales of the game were perhaps harmed by the situation.
There was plenty of outcry about loot boxes prior to the release of the game and Patrick Sodurland could have dealt with the situation then and made sure that the game was released without loot boxes. The fact is that when the first Battlefront reboot came out under 3 years ago, it lacked a campaign and much of what made the ser...
I wonder if Phil is willing to admit that he was wrong about Single-Player games not being popular?
Crap. Biased bullshit that has no place on this site.
How disastrous could PS3 have been when it actually sold more than the 360? Sony was never 'off-track' with any aspect of its product. The PS3 was used to bring Blu-ray to the market and despite coming out a year late, ended up selling more than the Xbox 360 and brought out with some huge IPs such as Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Infamous that have since propelled the PS4 even further into the lead. There is no 'blank slate' from which to seek refuge. Reputation follows ...
A few facts:
Even Xbox One's predecessor, the 360, was only "number one" for a couple of years, the first two years. during the last generation primarily because it was released a year before the PS3 and Sony's console had the reputation of being over-expensive (eventually found to be not true when Microsoft's many options and pay-wall fees were taken into consideration). As Travis3708's comment on this page points out that Microsoft could not ...
The most obvious model next generation for Sony will likely be that the PS5 will play all PS4 games, digital and disc-based, but not vice-versa. PS4 and PS4/PS4 Pro gamers will be able to continue enjoying any PS4 game releases until they finally stop (usually 3 to 5 years into the next generation with Sony) and then ensure that they can still play the older games on the PS5 when they upgrade. PS5 will likely be a disc-based console and while the architecture for the PS4 and PS5 may be simi...
Xbox supporters appear to always look for a silver lining. So now Microsoft must be laying the groundwork to win the next console generation. Not 'compete' or even 'challenge' but 'win'. Nothing they have done this generation shows that Microsoft understands what gamers want and even if they did, the chase for short-term profit mindset will never allow the company to focus on strategies that are similar to those of Sony or Nintendo.
Microsoft ha...
If the Uncharted series did not reignite your love for single-player games, I doubt anything else will. The rebooted Tomb Raider series is more like Uncharted than the pre-2013 games.
No, It should be like the PS4 just more. More powerful, allows gamers to play all their PS4 and PSVR games while allowing true 4K gaming. Spend the money on new IPs and new games for existing IPs, not a wholly new design.
This will allow all developers continuity, having come to grips with PS4 development tools and just have to allow for more power and better graphics instead of wasting time learning new tools, etc. Quicker development of better games.
Allowing ...
Microsoft has never been shy about shouting from every rooftop any time they have something to shout about. I remember how the company could not wait to let everyone know what was going on with the 360 last gen. I suspect there is no news because there is no news. They will cobble together an over-hyped presentation at E3 using none in-game scenes running on PC and maybe even show games that either never appear or will arrive 4 odd years after they are announced by which time we should be ...
The writer is wrong regarding his comments about the 7th generation. Microsoft released the 360 a year earlier, the perception was that the price was cheaper when in reality the 360 was more expensive than the PS3 as much of the tech was offered as optional and you had to pay for multiplayer access among other things. The PS3 was more expensive because it offered what was then the latest disc format, Blu-ray, did not charge for internet access and included changeable hard-drives. The Cell ...
There is no point in acquiring studios unless Microsoft intends to let each studio do what it is supposed to be good at and give creative freedom to the devs. Microsoft had plenty of studios but they either closed them down or incorporated one within another. Until the mindset changes and the suits at Microsoft are willing to invest in new IPs and letting studios have creative license, the problems will continue. This same mindset also destroyed what could have been an excellent exclusive ...
@pinkcrocodile75
er...I never labelled Microsoft as makers of just Windows, that is you making that one up. I stated that Microsoft succeeded in the operating systems business which was very competitive back in the early to mid-nineties when other competitors like IBM, Novell and even Apple made mistakes that gave the momentum to Microsoft. The same goes for the Office software which made gains after companies like Lotus, WordPerfect, Borland fell by the wayside. I was t...
Easy answer, Microsoft always puts profit before quality. It succeeded in the operating systems market more because of some missteps by other companies rather than real innovation. However, in gaming, it went up against the one company that has genuine pedigree when it comes to knowing what gamers want and delivering the content and quality - Sony. Especially this generation Microsoft has been looking for quick fixes and latching on to awful gaming practices like games as service, unwillin...
Sony is doing what it has always done - play to the beat of its own drum, deliver the best games and then do even better.
@SuperSonic91
Agreed. When you look at the kind of games Sony is releasing, they fit with the vision Ken had and wanted to be realized with the PS3. I am so looking forward to God of War, It looks like it is going to be one of the games of the year and possibly THE game of the year. I mean this is an IP that has had several iterations and has been around for over a decade and yet Cory Barlog and his team have refreshed it to an extent that it could be a new IP if it we...
No level of quantity is worth the loss in quality. This is just going to push Microsoft back even further. As much as Xbox One supporters would like to think otherwise, single-player games, multiplayer games with single-player campaigns (or vice-versa) are in demand and Microsoft will end up being the second or even third console in a household if at all.
Not all new ideas work but the important thing is to at least explore them without dismissing them outright. Cory had a vision and Sony let him go for it and it has paid off. This is why Sony is Number One in console gaming, hell any gaming, because the suits at Sony are willing to let the creatives have a go and try new things and in return the payoff is great games like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Horizon and God of War. 4 stellar games from 3 first party studios.
Too early for The Last of Us 2 as it is not due until 2019 or even 2020 as with the PS5. The Surge 2 is also unlikely until 2019. A Splinter Cell game or even a remake of Chaos Theory is very welcome as is a SOCOM game but the latter is unlikely from Sony. There will be another Doom but I suspect it will be next year or the year after. As for Halo, I hope not unless the game is as good as the first two or three.
There are so many successful IPs that both Sony and Micr...
This is Gaming Bolt usually the mouthpiece of Xbox so I will take this gem to be a swipe at the PS3 for having such a fanciful trailer. It is Sony games that always look better, nevertheless.
