That "reason" is that consoles traditionally always have. Let's not act like this is some expected trend. This will be a first for the home console industry and a pretty major change. As we know, change is difficult for some and not all change is good change. While I'm not completely down on the idea, there's a lot that we don't know before I can call this "progress". It would definitely be a move. But, we can't say for sure, without relevant informatio...

Unfortunately, I don't see us having quite that same jump for awhile. (though I'd be happy to be wrong!) Graphics are starting to reach a point of diminishing returns. They are slightly better, but don't add as much as they used to as far as the overall experience is concerned. Going from SNES/Sega to PS1 was a leap because we got full polygons and 3D worlds. From PS1 to PS2 the leap was in smoothing the rough edges of those polygons and adding more overall fidelity to games. Last...

To be fair, Smite has had years to fine-tune their experience. Paragon hasn't even had an open beta yet. People have complained about the lack of speed. But, every MOBA has it's own pacing. Look at LoL and DOTA. I think Epic are probably using this Early Access as a means to find the balance between individual speed and the overall pace of the game. (at least that is what was hinted at by a dev in a stream)

Time to trade Boogie for a crap ton of assets and build a team. Oh...and can Vlade.

They definitely did something different this year. The lighting looks more natural in this year's game. Plus, they did a crap ton with transition animations. No more silly sliding when the animation gets confused.

^^^This^^^ I am not of the disposable phone generation. I am of the console generation that, up until rumors surfaced a week ago, suggested that what I buy day one will be the best console they have until the next gen. begins. That's not being selfish or entitled. It's what the console industry has always been. As you said, the industry continues to use the confused spending habits of tweeners as a baseline for it's "great" ideas (read: cash cow!). Knowing full well that...

That's the HUGE risk that any company is gonna take with this idea...this gen. When we purchased our consoles, we were had the idea that we were buying the best that was going to be offered until the next gen. Why? Because that's pretty much how it's been for...forever. IMO, it is a better idea for next gen than now....unless console makers are trying to prolong this gen. (the hardware and specs won't hold up for 8 years this time) Either way, I'm not so psyched about the ...

They are marketing it as the primary SKU because they are marketing to their core first. This core is more likely to be invested in Sony's economic ecosystem already. So, there's the chance that they have a camera and possibly even Move controllers. It's pretty standard fair for tech product launches. Sell the core and let them spread the word. Their hope is, as you said, to bring more gamers and possibly non-gamers into the ecosystem.
Plus, as you noted, it doesn't hu...

Sooo unethical not to make someone pay twice for something that they already own!?!

They bring it up because it has become more popular due to twitch, ustream, etc. being integrated into the PS4 and the need for a camera to do so. While the number of streamers won't be equal to that of camera sales, there is definitely a correlation.

What success??? Attention? Yes. But, for something to be successful, it has to...you know...sell. I get that pre-orders are sold out all over. But, how many were available? Right now Sony has pit themselves in a position to be successful. We really have to wait until it releases before we call it a success. I'm not hating on the PSVR. I'm just saying that you can't really win a race before it starts. Let alone before you even show up to the track.

So you can get it for $150 less, better?
Seriously, I haven't seen this much false indignation in a long while. Sony has to serve everybody. Those with a camera and those without. This is what they chose to do. Love it or leave it.

Nerd!!!😝 Seriously, being a bit of a science geek, I see misconceptions like this all the time with NMS. For example, people keep saying galaxy instead of universe. (18 quintillion planets in a galaxy would be a bit cramped) There are others, but I won't geek out right now.

While I see the argument for mods, especially some of what you listed. I don't necessarily think that it's needed for replay value...unless you are referring to a year down the line. If the mechanics hold up, there is enough content to keep people searching almost infinitely already. Though, it would be cool to be able to travel to Tatooine just for the hell of it.

It's simply the promise that the game has. For many people, especially older people, space truly is STILL then final frontier. The ability to explore these unknown, unseen planets (regardless of how they might be generated) is the ultimate sci-fi fantasy. Will it hold up? Who knows. But, much like every other IP, people will heap their expectations (or lack of interest) on it regardless.
Personally, I KNOW what I am going into with this game and I remain optimistic that they will...

For those looking for Move controllers and peripherals, I'd suggest checking retailers like Target and WalMart. I saw a charging station on clearance for $10, and move controllers and triggers for $12 each. This has been about 2 weeks ago, but it might be worth it to save a couple dollars.

Yes. That and the accidental fat-finger on tablets and smartphones. (though they usually acknowledge it)

It's kind of like saying that Atari 2600 wasn't "there yet". Well, it was a small step towards what we have today. Just as today's VR is just a small step toward what will be possible in the future. As you stated, technology is ever evolving and there is really no "there". Great comment.
