I don't think the NPC species are procedural. They are a part of the existing lore. The animals on planets and the plants are. Even the ships have aspects of procedural generation.

You have to do what works for you in order to face your issues. You seem to be doing that in droves. So, respect for that. That being said, you have to allow you to be you and allow others to be okay with who you are. If you are still working on who you are, how is someone to truly know you? That's a bit of a never ending story. While your life has been seemingly horrible thus far, just understand that you have more life. With that, the chance for you and life to change for the better. Respect. Regardless, it's great that you were able to find safety in the games that you loved, despite the hardships that you faced (and ultimately had no control over) in real life. Sometimes a few hours of escape from reality gives you some time away to gain some needed perspective...or just a break. Also, glad to see that everything worked out in the end. Again...respect.

I think the author is more or less saying the gamble is releasing the slim and the Scorpio within a year. IMO, that IS a bit of a gamble...for BOTH companies. As crazy as people on N4G get about the mid cycle upgrade, there will be mass market types that don't get it. Why pay for the new system and there aren't new games? If there ARE exclusives, then what about the early adopters? These are aimed at the core. I don't see them dramatically moving the needle one way or the other. T...

The server is basically needed to track the small bits of metadata related to each person and their interactions with the universe. Unlike traditional games where there is total player interaction, this is must an exchange of small bits of location data, structure data, and the database for names of plants and animals. There's no need for traditional lobbies. You are just a floating data point among other floating data points moving around a 3D coordinate graph (on the server). Your inter...

The universe is seeded by the math on Hello Games server. Which means that the coordinates will be the same for everybody. What might be different is the other stuff. The contours of the planet are generated on the fly. I believe the plants and animals are seeded, but might have slight differences in appearance to another player. In the end, unless someone creates a fast travel or warp type thing, people's travel will be restricted by resource gathering and suit/ship upgrades.

The center of the universe is still a vast area. Our galaxy is one out of 100,000,000,000. So, I'd assume that one galaxy will be at the center. Add to this the number of planets in the galaxy. We can't assume 7 or 8. But, even then, that's a lot of space. Just imagine trying to find someone on Earth with only 5 million people (conservative sales). You could do it. But, it still would be far and few between, I'd imagine.

Not gonna happen. Too much free revenue. PS Home was the "free" revenue maker with the PS3. Without PS+, where does it come from. Make no doubts about it, this is not inexpensive for Sony to do...or MS for that matter. Understanding that, I don't like paying but I don't mind either. But, NMS not needing is a great incentive for those that don't subscribe to still play it. That's something that Sony should think about always doing...allow 1st party games to have free ...

Nice, there was another race shown in one of the extended plays that didn't quite look like the two that we've seen submitted. Where's Christopher? He needs to see this.

While I think that there are some people who will be petty about the 3rd party deal, I think that a lot of the steam has been taken out of the game. It's a year old. People don't see the value proposition as a good one, even with the "incentives" thrown in. It comes out at a horrible time when there is a lot of competition (including 1st party) for the few dollars that we have. This game is likely to have a slow burn on PS4. It will likely pick up steam during holiday sales ...

I agree with the statement that games shouldn't be forced to be politically correct. I respect the need for creative expression and free speech. However, free speech is not free of consequences. Thus, the art should speak for itself.

Look, I understand the pushy, PC BS that we get left and right. But, the anti-PC extreme can be just as tiresome. There are some things that are in poor taste, or outside of the norms. Often, art likes to skirt around that without fully ju...

@FullmetalRoyale...The funny thing is the groups that you talk about usually DO ignore it...and then have some de facto representative come out and speak for them. We focus on these articles where one or two people are offended for an entire group...who usually haven't voiced an opinion one way or another. There's often really no evidence that the group is really offended, but the individual assumes that they will or should be.

While I can agree with some of what you said, I have to disagree that "racists" don't "hide behind righteousness". They do. It's their perception that they and they alone deserve the privileges which they are afforded simply by the color of their skin (which they had nothing to do with) which they see as righteous. In fact, they go so far as to try to back it by biblical references. So, they DO feel a sense of self-righteousness in their assertions of their superio...

Unfortunately, Marketing 101 seems to trump Econ 101 these days. If more people showed the least bit of restraint, we wouldn't have the prices that we currently have. (general statement...not necessarily related to remasters, but an extension of your thought)

Agreed. They seem to be trying to capitalize on the fact that Hello Games has actually gotten some results out of the formula. In fact, in another article (Eurogamer), it was stated that the code is readily available to play with in Vines and browsers and they the Dutch company has had no issues with that. Why the problem now? Because there are now tangible possibilities. Seems like they want to strong arm Hello Games into some deal where they share a license for an engine that might have the...

While that bit of money sounds good, it pales in comparison to the amount that could be reaped if they were able to license the tech. It sounds, to me, like Hello Games was able to get the superformula to work in a way that can be licensed and the Dutch company is interested in that. (long term money) In that scenario, Hello Games was able to pull off something that the originator of the formula couldn't, and they could have to pay for it.
Best case scenario: the issue is seen t...

It sounds like, to me, that they aren't trying to protect their formula. They actually want a piece of what Hello Games was supposedly able to do with the formula. Thus, the company wants to talk to Hello Games about "licensing software using the superformula for use in game development." Kind of a strong arm tactic to get some possible future licensing money from Hello Games.

You can patent formulas that are part of or crucial to your business. There are tons of economic predictors, sports analytic formulas, aerodynamic formulas, etc. that bring in billions. So, I get it. The issue here is that the "superformula" is actually the adjusted work from a guy in the 1800's. The Dutch company just altered it and put it into computer code to see what it did. That brings up the question of whether this is unique work or a natural extension of work already don...

@TheOpimist...that's why there's a difference between the core gamers and the masses. Core gamers are more willing to look up specs, infrastructure, ecosystem, etc. The masses will jump on trendy games and what is the "hot" thing in their peer group. That being said, I would NEVER buy a console for one or two games. So, I wouldn't buy an NX just for Zelda, an Xbox just for Halo, or a Playstation just for Bloodborne. I buy based on the complete library that is available a...
