Should be able to play offline (unless DRM sneaks in). But, none of the changes (naming stuff, structures blown up, etc.) will be persistent to the rest of us on day one.

I enjoyed this video. It shows a lot of what we've seen. But, also, some things that I hadn't. The toolset is crazy but, more importantly, it's immediately shareable. Which means that you don't have to be Picasso to enjoy the game. You can just borrow from the Pocassos out there. It also gives a bit more incite into how the game might work. Now, I just want to see how flexible the engine is. Can it do platforming? RPG? Racing? (hinted at in the original trailer) Can't wait...

At it's core, NMS IS a survival game. You can't do anything else without surviving. If you can't survive, you can't gather resources to upgrade your ship or trade. If you can't do that, you're stuck in a "small" range of planets. That being said, the advantage here is that not all planets are equal. In fact, not even all areas on all planets are equal. (there are underwater environments and cave networks) That, imo, is part of the allure...finding places and ...

I see what you are saying. I totally agree that the sweet spot is around 6 years. Support can last as long as it can last. Sony seems to be able to squeeze about 10 years out of each console. The cell phone model, imo, will be a difficult sell for the masses because (at least for them) games sell consoles. If there aren't games that are exclusive to the upgrades, what's the need for a casual to buy (aside from not having one to begin with)? Smartphones sell based on features. Every co...

You gotta talk to Chuck on that one. He's been the holdout in getting that done.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think we need to worry that much about servers. The servers won't be handling the traditional loads of normal games. There's no need for lobbies and the large amounts of data associated with that. It's mostly location data, structural data (damaged/destroyed or not), and the database for discoveries. That's not really data intensive for servers to handle. The added plus is that it can be played offline (only the changes and discove...

That's funny, because my Hale-Bopp, Heaven's Gate personal life enhancer swears it's the only way to get to the universal consciousness that is truth...oh, well!

There is a reason for this...and it's name is FIFA. EA has been constantly, year by year, trying to buy up all of the licenses for the major leagues. The only way that PES can compete with that is to purchase individual team licenses (for those that can do that) and pay for the leagues that won't sell exclusivity. It's pretty much EA's tactic of trying to make PES compete on an uneven playing field. They were successful with this tactic with American football to the point that...

Agreed. I understand the issue for this gen. But, going forward, I don't see how those same issues should pop up again. By all estimates, it should take years for the next standard in visuals (maybe 8k?) to even be a viable option. Tech is at the point where a very capable, closed system could perform very well, and be affordable and powerful from the start. There shouldn't be the same need to skimp because of pricey parts.

I feel the same way that you do. I apprec...

The reality, IMO, was simply the fact that the last generation lasted entirely too long. The consoles took too long to start making money. The technology that they saw as the future was too expensive. So, instead of getting something that looked like the Neo and Scorpio on day one (for exorbitant prices) we simply got the PS4 and Xbox One. Don't be fooled. These would have been fine on their own. There wasn't going to be some mass exodus from the console ecosystem because PC's cou...

Keep hearing that they worked on the foul issues (from early previews), but it still needs tweaking. Progress...I guess.

That would be classic!!! Expect all of the fear associated with a biker gang dude, then he pulls out an iPhone 7 and says "It's on!"

My favorite console might come as a surprise to most. But, it's the one that got me hooked on gaming. While it was a bit shorter lived than the consoles of today and wasn't anywhere near as technically advanced. It was mine. I played it over and over day in and out. Until it was no longer supported. In actuality, I kept it for over 30 years, until it was ruined in a flood. Since then, I've owned several others....with better games...more advanced specs...more support. But, sometim...
