Actually, it's expected. Most online enabled games either don't have the servers on at all early OR they get wiped day one. At least players can get a taste of what the game is all about. (which they could have done anyway because there is offline play...just no saving discoveries)
This isn't new. People who play titles early, that have online components, usually expect for he servers to reset. They are just happy to be part of the few that get to explore early. Plus, none of their discoveries have been truly saved. (which I'm glad about saying as though I watched a stream with a moon named Taylor Swift in the star system of Justin Bieber with a planet named Will Smith. lol)
@thekhurg...in essence, it's still a single player experience. Even though there will be millions of people playing, in a field of 18 quintillion, there's no issues with starting 2 days late. Flora and fauna deaths aren't persistent. Resources are abundant. (how long could one man last on Earth in terms of resources?) I don't look at it as a "race" as much as a journey to the center. They could easily have different servers. But, I just don't see it having anythi...
Still quite low. There are still 18 quintillion planets and moons to hide people in. Even if the player count were a billion, the odds would only change slightly.
As for the "lies", how can you say that when there are that many planets? (it's like saying no one wins the lottery, just because you've never won) While you haven't seen it, I watched someone stream and there was a "barren" moon. Both the flora and fauna were marked NONE. People so quick to...
If you are expecting more than what you have seen in the streams, you got the wrong game. While it's far from a "walking simulator", it's not a narrative driven action game. It's just not...and it never WAS. It's a survival exploration game. The fighting and trading are a means to an end of extending your ability to survive and explore further into the universe. It's more akin to games like Ark, Terraria, Don't Starve, Subnautica, etc. than something like Mas...
Like this is the first time that a studio has had a day one patch that they felt improved the game. Seriously, it's a huge undertaking and literally a team of less than 20 people. (for the most of development, it was 10-12 people) So, getting it straight, the game is in fine working condition right now. However, like any artist and perfectionist, Sean wants the game viewed and reviewed in the best state possible. From what I understand, the patch worked out the pacing, added more color va...
So the countless interviews, the half hours (more than one) walk through videos, the myriad of trailers did nothing to explain "what the game is all about"?
As I said before, if you don't know by now it's willful ignorance (you don't care enough to watch everything) or it's some seriously bad attempt at trolling. The only things that haven't been explored are the discoveries and secrets that Hello Games wants to keep close to the chest. Plus, there are ...
I watched a stream tonight for about 30 min. The planets and moons have proper dimensions. They aren't all Earth sized, much like our own solar system, there are larger and smaller bodies.
Now, to cover more terrain, you have a jump pack. (it requires resources to charge) But, you don't have to walk everywhere. This was just one small system of 5 planets and 2 moons. So, I'd imagine there is a great amount of diversity. When he zoomed out to show the map. There were lite...
True. Aiden was as flat as flat can be. I didn't find the driving as horrible as many did. It was far from great, though. There were some interesting characters, but they didn't explore them. The hacking worked as a simple mechanic and even better as a gameplay aspect. Figuring how to hack through those hideouts was pretty fun. I also agree about the graphics. I didn't think that they were all that bad at all. (they looked quite good at night in the rain) No, they didn't match...
I think the "pop in" is actually the procedural generation. I remember Sean Murray talking about that in one of his vids. Also, I watched a stream for about 30 min. The first time the guy went to Taylor Swift (yes, he named a dead and pretty barren moon Taylor Swift...lol) it had the pop-in. But when he revisited the planet, after leaving to the space station, there was absolutely no pop in effect. I saw the same thing with Will Smith (his second planet) as well.
What was ...
Actually, you just shoot rocks. You scan structures, downed ships, plants, animals, and ancient monoliths.
THIS man gets it!!!
@dizeestl...think you're reaching a bit. There may be some overselling, but those things have been seen. See, the issue is that there are 18 quintillion planets. Each person will randomly be dropped on one. So, what are the chances of seeing exactly what you want (ringed planets, barren planets, the exact creature you are looking for, herd animals, etc.)? That's kind of what makes this game so different. You might not get "mountain-sized mountains) and I might. With this algorith...
Don't tell me what to do with my hype!!!! Seriously, I'm excited that I'll finally be able to play the game. Also, I pretty much know what to expect. What I've seen, I've liked. My expectations are in line with what has been shown. The only way I'll be disappointed is if what had been shown doesn't work...like at all. Otherwise, I'm ready for some exploring.
How do we know it's "easily-offended minority people" who are complaining? This article is really just showing a tweet from somebody (who doesn't appear to be the minority that this might be offensive to) who is questioning the slogan's use. Besides, it's not the minority who are "easily-offended" by the slogan that the game borrows from.
Devs shouldn't "show the middle finger" to anybody. They should simply see their vision through ...
IMO, the game seems to have the same driving goals of revenge, lust for power, trust issues, and s sense of loyalty to family found in the traditional Mafia stories. The only thing missing is that it doesn't surround the traditional, Cosa Nostra Mafia (sometimes called The Mob). This just shows the extension of the groups that organized against the Mafia to keep control of illegal gambling, prostitution, liquor, drugs, real estate, construction, etc.
I played the first two and e...
Pretty graphics can't elevate a horrible game to good. If the core gameplay is lacking, it will still be lacking regardless of how pretty it is. You can shine a turd all you want and it's still will remain a turd. That being said, if the core gameplay is great, a boost of power can improve a game...if only by stabilizing or raising a framerate. Also, extra power can allow for some extra things like more competent AI, improved physics, different graphical techniques and flourishes. It&...
IMO, the thing that sells MOST consoles and handhelds is the games. Not just ANY games, but the games that each company offers. While there are some that might purchase it because of it potentially being the only handheld/hybrid with current and complete dev support (at very least from first parties), most that would jump on it are already attracted to what Nintendo offers. So, they would be buying it regardless of "Sony's indifference". In the end, and for the most part, the Vi...
This isn't an RPG. It's really a MOBA influenced arena shooter hidden in a campaign. (at least for the single player and co-op) They tried to create a hybrid of FPS, MOBA, and arena shooter and, for some, it didn't work. Part of the reason was that people went in with expectations of a Borderlands style game. Which, the overall style was very reminiscent of Borderlands. But, the game play seemed to be too much of a departure for some.
@ONESHOTV2...you keep saying "corridor shooter" as if it is true. Pro tip: repeating a lie doesn't make it become the truth! I understand that it's not open world. But, neither is Crysis. They are both large, closed arenas. I also get that you are excited about your PC that plays Crysis at 1440p/4k but if UC4 comes close to the visuals, for a $400 investment, that's pretty phenomenal. I can concede that the PC, with all of that raw power, can produce visuals that UC4 mig...
