This makes sense because even developers have to go through the verification process. That's DLC, patches, extra content on FTP games, etc. That process is supposed to protect the consumer. Believe it or not, companies don't usually just make unilateral decisions like that with no apparent reason. (you might not agree with the reason, but one usually exists)
But, leave it to the worst to start waving the Sony is anti-consumer flag once again.
That's because you are part of the core gamers. You have chosen to support exclusives as well as multiplats. Many in the mass market are more concerned with the next Madden or CoD, than the next Uncharted or Gears of War. The console that is the most "popular" (has the midshare) usually gets the most of the mass market as well. As generations go, and more "casuals" are brought, I expect this phenomenon to probably worsen. People are already trying to downplay exclusive...
I think that's why Sony didn't go balls to the wall with specs. Aside from keeping the development environment close and the community intact, they also present a very affordable option for playing and viewing in greater than HD format. Some casuals will do exactly what you said. Others will probably opt in for one of the slims this holiday.
It makes me think of what would happen if the old PS2 and the PS4 had a love child! 😀 I don't fond it as hideous as many. But it's not as aesthetically pleasing (simple beauty) as the PS4.
Maybe Sony has some advanced tracking data that is showing a trend that isn't as positive toward UHD? Or, they feel like even that might start to alienate early adopters? Was it added cost? I know that they mentioned the trend toward streaming as opposed to physical media. But, there must be something else. At any rate, just like you, I'm not too concerned. I'm honestly part of that streaming trend. I just don't buy movies like I used to and wouldn't feel the absolute need...
Agreed. I think this was really a quickly put together event to get the info into the hands of the journalists. It wasn't meant to be a grand spectacle like E3. It was more of an informational...like a TED talk. lol But, Mark really does have the voice of instant sleep. I think that they went this route, as opposed to a spectacle, because they didn't want it to feel like a brand new console. If you think about it, this is the kind of stuff that used to be tacked on to E3 conferences.....
This is exactly why it was a purposely understated, under hyped event more full of the graphs and charts of the past. Sony is well aware that you can't see what you NEED to see in a streamed event. That's why there has been this evangelizing from developers, company heads, etc. It's also why they chose to keep it at a smaller event and not on the E3 stage. This is something, much like the "need" for a 4K TV itself, that people will have to experience on their own...or ta...
Apparently, they used an hdmi version that was capable of upgrades. Guess we shall see.
The internet is killing the fine art of sarcasm!!! 👍👍👍
@Genuine-user...I got the foil if you got the basement shelter and rations!!! 😀
The Scorpio, Xb1s, and Pro are the Trojan Horse devices for 4K sets. (even the HDR patch for PS4) They are trying to stimulate that market, while simultaneously creating more demand for their consoles in the middle of a gen where usually the only way to do so was price drops and slim designs. Add to this that, while the PS4 was the stronger of the consoles, it doesn't have much untapped potential. (the architecture is more straight forward than before) So, there weren't going to be ma...
Imo, that's to be expected. (mixed reactions) This is pretty uncharted territory for consoles. The whole idea of mid-gen. upgrades, what they represent, and why they are "needed" (or not) hasn't quite settled in. I'd be willing to bet that opinions will continue to sway...in BOTH directions. Personally, I didn't like the idea until they proved how they could keep the community from being segmented. At this point, I see it as merely an option. Perhaps one that we shou...
I think there's something to that!
The Pro is NOT less powerful than the X1s. It is just slightly more powerful than the vanilla Xb1. Which might bring it closer in line to the vanilla PS4. Scorpio, according to specs, will be more powerful when it's released in a year or so. So, if you are looking for 4K dvd, X1s is the option...but you lose a bit of power. But, if you want the most power for at least the next year, the Pro is your bet. Most people who will purchase a high-end console already have a preference of Xbox or ...
Imo, I think that the "master plan" is more of a roadmap than a detailed, static approach. Sony knows the goal...to get the most people to buy into the PlayStation ecosystem. However, with this generation being so different, they've had to adjust (which was a valuable lesson learned from last gen). I think that the "power" of the Pro represents what they had in mind to launch this gen. But, with all of the fallout over pricing and the PS3, they had to trim down their e...
Depending on the game, I would agree. I don't really care one way or another about skins and such. But, maps, levels, extra story content....yeah I'd definitely pony up for that kind of content instead of it getting parsed as DLC and micros.
The only commentary that stacks up with this is in MLB: The Show. But, then again, baseball has a bit more dead air to fill. It does a great job of providing supplementary comments. Looks like 2K is pushing for better post game content. I just hope that extends outside of their story mode and into the myCareer portion.
😀
Been playing since it came out. I spent about $60, but only to reward the devs for their efforts. That being said, the longer you play...the more you learn...it really becomes free. I quit for about six months during the great Destiny arrival. Only to go right back to it. People who dismissed the game even a year ago will come back to a pretty different playing game. That, imo, is what I like about it. It's always evolving....even down to the core mechanics. I might take breaks. But, it w...
When they get more power...they want more power. In the end, they want to squeeze every bit of their design into a game. Most of the time they have to cut corners due to "limitations" (which really means ideas too big for existing tech). It's usually not strictly related to gameplay. It's the want to push visuals as far as they can and still maintain their ideal gameplay design. All of this because they know beauty over substance still sells games. (sadly)
