The triggers and the peeling were fixed in the second iteration of the DS4. Plus, in a way, it does feel more sturdy. As for the battery, it averages about 6 1/2-7 hrs of constant gameplay (for me). So, after a session, I just plug up and let it charge in standby mode.

I think the more interesting thing about the story is the way that it is told. The documentary-styled narration is so good. Not only because of the content, but because it is befitting of the time. It's almost conspiratorial in it's affect...like the person shooting the footage shouldn't be getting such juicy information. As for the soundtrack, it might be my favorite of all time....at very least it's a 1b to GTA Vice City.

That's the problem. Some people complained that the first 2 Mafia games didn't do enough with their "open" worlds. The devs tried that and fell into the open world trap...repetition. I still enjoyed the game for the awesome story and the great mechanics. But, the repetition does get to a grind after a while. That being said, repetition kills many open world games for me...even including some of the best games.

Maybe it's my perception of hype, but I can't say it was hyped. It was covered heavily the week before and after release. But, before then, we had a reveal...a couple details...and the pre-release trailer and gameplay. IMO, hype is when you get constant coverage. You get an article every other day about some small, minuscule detail of the game or a quote from a dev from a tweet. Mafia III didn't really have that.

Isn't that what you sign up for in Early Access?

The thing is, it's really not too risky. Sony completely understands that this isn't meant to be an overwhelming success. It's meant to be simply an added option to push the future of 4K gaming. I think that they pinpointed about 1.5 million in sales by the end of their fiscal year as a goal.
As for 1080p/60p, it can do that too...IF the devs decided to do that. Sony had to tread lightly when it came to this. They couldn't very well leave 40 million+ gamers behind by...

@texag2011...to be fair, the 360 crowd did the same thing with the PS3. Two wrongs don't make a right. While your point is correct, it's also incredibly pedantic because there is far less difference (per just about every source so far that had had hands on with the Pro) between native and checkerboard 4K and upscaling low end textures from 720p or 900p to 1080p.

3506d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

No. I don't think anybody is saying that. What they ARE saying is that it can do some things in native 4K. Those that it can't will use the "workaround"...and the "workaround" looks damn close to native in well programmed games. Also, that your upscaling argument doesn't take into account the quality of textures being used initially. Upscaling will reduce image quality. That's a fact. However, if you are starting with images of a quality higher than 1080p, ...

More than ridiculed, Sony had a class action suit against them for the Killzone claim. Yet, as you pointed out, MS got away with claims of 1080p on the box....no mention of "upscaled". (not saying wrong or right...just hypocritical) At this point, in all seriousness, we don't know if the Scorpio will deliver native 4K for all games. Yet, it's being trumpeted like it's fact. (Yes, Spencer said that's what they want...but it might be a bit of a push)
In the en...

Ultimately, it's because these terms and numbers have become catch phrases and many really have no idea what they mean. Sure, we ALL know that higher is "better", but so we really know at what level something becomes possible? Most don't understand the dev or system "tricks" employed for results (See the outrage at Killzone SF vs. QB for that). Most just spout the same narrative. (that goes for all camps...people are starting spec fights in the Nintendo Switch arti...

Nope. You forget that the mass consumer doesn't give a damn (or even know much) about HDR and 4k. This is the point in the traditional cycle where consoles pick up momentum again due to price reductions. That is why the slims for both companies remain important. The Pro isn't supposed to move 40 million units in the same amount of time as the PS4. Which is why it's only a marginal upgrade and the price is kept within a respectable reach. The very idea of a mid-gen. upgrade is NOT ...

So, basically, "I like Xbox better"!? Most multiplats "play better" on PS4 at the moment due to the power advantage. So, if that were a real concern, you'd play the PS4 for more than just exclusives. You honestly don't know what the Scorpio will offer in terms of "better VR". Spencer had said that he's open to it...but it's not a major push. Sony, on the other hand, had a unit literally built for their system...which will perform better on the Pro...

Even more impressive, to me, is the balance they achieved between the upgraded and the standard system. They created enough of a console for core gamers and tech-heads to want to upgrade. But, not so much that anybody will truly feel left behind. Plus, they managed to keep the price at an affordable point. I was worried about the mid-gen strategy before information became available. I can say now that I am pleased. I'd like a Pro. But, I won't feel shafted if I don't get one.

Or, alternatively, they'll be happy with whatever improvements are possible. While you are correct that Sony can't demand that 3rd parties support these features, I am willing to bet that the major ones will do so. It actually helps them as well.
I enjoy some of your critical assessments (sometimes your points are extremely valid), but it's hard to see it as more than concern trolling when you rarely if ever do the same for the competition.

For me, open world games are giant playgrounds. The thing that makes them interesting are the settings, NPC's and what they do, and the tools that you have to interact with the world. Not every open world game has to have stellar characters and writing (see Just Cause). But, that does elevate them to a higher level like the GTA's and RDR's. WD2 looks like it has made small graphical tweaks, "fixed" the driving mechanics, while adding to what was unique about it...the hac...

Because you'll be missing out on Sony exclusives. Power doesn't mean too much if you don't like or enjoy the games you're playing. I'm not saying Xbox has no fun exclusives. I'm saying that, typically, core gamers purchase their consoles according to the exclusives that they like the most. If exclusives don't matter, then the wait for the Scorpio might be the best option.
@deafdani...We're basically talking about a power jump for each system where the...

Well, in all honesty, that is the idea behind a mid-gen. upgrade. You don't want a quantum leap because that would alienate over 40 million people. So you go for just enough shine and polish to entice the core to want to upgrade, while keeping in spitting distance with existing hardware. Anything else wouldn't be a mid-gen upgrade. It'd pretty much be a new console.

Actually, it was the case. The same group that DDoS'd last week decided to do it again. Outages were across the east coast, spotty on the west coast and south in the US and spotty in western Europe. They are planning a larger one in the coming week...just because. They are targeting a specific set of companies that supplies server hubs for several large corporations and banks...but also house hubs for several game and entertainment services including PSN, Spotify, iTunes, Netflix, Twitter...

You've described the millennial attitude, but not really the reason why he jobs aren't there. We are still recovering from one of the worst depressions in history. Job growth is not universal. Certain industries are recovering better, and some aren't. Companies are being extremely (maybe overly) cautious about how quickly they expand and in what direction. Add to this that many of the degrees that people get don't automatically lead to jobs or job opportunities and the increas...

If you applied this mindset to the industry, you'd be hard pressed to find a dev to even make a game. Devs fail. Games fail. Publishers fail. But luckily, most of them learn, grow, evolve, adapt, and become stronger. Go research any developers history of games and I'm certain you'll find a failed game. Plus, you are holding "every member" responsible for the words of the PR mouthpiece, Sean Murray. I would say that even HE deserves a second chance...just never, ever as t...
