Agreed (read the article before deciding!)
This is the complete antithesis of the sweet mafia life. There's no sugar coating the carnage that Lincoln undertakes while seeking his revenge. In previous Mafia games, there was a sort of romanticism of the life and violence. (like most mob stories) You almost didn't ever feel like it was wrong because it benefited you and your rise AND the family. In this, it's strictly personal. The gains are a byproduct of the revenge and ye...
The creators of Mafia 3 do have a clear message. They just chose to show it through a series of individual experiences. This isn't a game about racism. It's a game that takes place during a time where racism was rampant and overt. As for the "thug life", that's part of the being in the mob. The Italian mobsters were every bit as "thuggish" as Lincoln. However, the devs decided to expand the gameplay of the franchise. So, Lincoln has a more visceral set of moves...
Was that headline a nod to the great KRS-1??? If so, props!
On topic: Even though I don't know what I'm looking at, I'm still intrigued that someone actually and painstakingly designed this thing. It really is a marvel to look at.
It's not just about the evolution of Kratos. It's about continuing the natural arch of traditional Greek tragedy. Often times, the hero is put through the paces by the very gods that he worships. That completely changes him (or reveals his true self...depending on how you choose to look at it). However, at the end of the climax, there is the resolution which is the time for reflection. In this reflection, the character often realizes the path he was on and decides to return to his for...
What new consoles don't "coast on novelty" upon release? That's pretty much what a launch does. Launch games usually showcase the novelty of the system...whether that be motion controls, power, connectivity, etc. That's exactly why we see mascot games, tried and true sequels, and only a couple of new IP when they launch. The real issue is whether or not VR games can overcome the idea of just being novelty games? Will developers get creative with ideas and push VR past th...
We've waited a year. It won't be that hard to wait for a sale. It's not like we aren't approaching a time where games will be dropping damn near weekly. It will probably sell decently. But, they could have sold much more by dropping the price or adding more to the package. They don't owe me anything. They owe it to themselves and the franchise to put it in the best place possible to succeed. I don't think the $60 price tag amidst solid competition is right. But, we sha...
"If it don't fit, don't force it. Just relax and let it go. Just cuz that's how ya want it. Doesn't mean it will be so."
That's a quote from an old 70's song. Maybe a bit "different" meaning. But, it applies to the nature of anything becoming a chore. You can't force fun. When it's not fun. Do something else. Try again another day. Rinse and repeat until you get that feeling again or realize that gaming just might not be fun for YOU...
I agree that it isn't for ALL games. But, there are many genres that can be altered to provide a great VR experience. I watched a demo of a mini-golf game on the Vive and I immediately wanted to play. There was a zombie FPS as well that looked fun. In the end, it's new tech. It's like the Atari of VR. It will get better and cheaper as it grows. The games are meant to be the Trojan Horse for other things like VR concerts, VR travel, VR sporting events, maybe even VR movie watching....
Agreed. Minecraft now has an educational edition just for this. I thought that the AR stuff with Wonderbook could have worked wonders in education. Needless to say, VR could be that link as well. I find it interesting that kids (and adults) will learn so much about what's in a game. You have people who talk like certified gun experts who don't own weapons and have only played CoD. Car experts that aren't old enough to drive. But, from playing Gran Turismo or Forza, they've lea...
Exactly. I always imagined that it was kind of an intergalactic Don't Starve. With that, I actually enjoyed it and continue to. I play for an hour or two and have my fill. Then, I come back and play some more. I never assumed I would run into anybody because, as you stated, the odds of doing so would be close to zero. So, that wasn't a concern. It still isn't because there is really nothing co-op about the game. As for variation, it is there...but on a smaller level. Animals resem...
True. Looks much more consumer ready, aesthetically, than the Vive and Oculus Rift. Haven't demoed it yet. But, just from a design perspective, it really looks great.
This was much faster the first time I saw it on PC. Also, it seemed a bit of a grind to get currency. But, it looked more fun.
That is the beauty of PES. It takes time to get all the subtle nuances. I've discovered some smaller things as much as a year into playing. Not moves, but ways to exploit certain defenses or methods of shutting down attacks. When it works, much like the real thing, it's a beautiful game.
This I agree with!!!
While GTA is king, it's because of the total package. There are games that beat it in certain aspects. RDR and the Mafia series, imo, beat it in the depth of storytelling. I even think WD beats it in shooting mechanics. (GTA is a bit more stiff). But, I agree, that it's hard to beat GTA for total package and will probably sit at the top because of longevity.
What is advanced? Even though they are "dinosaur machines", they act and react like the animals that they represent. That's some pretty advanced A.I. If they are sentient, which we don't quite know, that even UPS the ante. We have no idea what kind of advances were made before this apocalypse. We just know what remained.
You don't need them all to be competitive. Look at them more like long term goals and it makes it easier. I've been playing 2K for years and haven't gotten all the badges. Some do help. But, they aren't crucial.
Edit: A lot of that is for bragging rights. Max your player, play to your strengths, and play with decent teams and you'll be good. As I said SOME badges DO help. You just don't need them all.
EA has been notorious for continuing their legacy issues...especially in sports games. Madden and FIFA being prime examples. It doesn't make them unplayable. But, it DOES make them less than what they could be and less immersive as a simulation of the sport.
Mafia III seems way more visceral than WD2. The finishers, the impact of the guns, the car crashes, even the story. I'm thinking that I'll get both. Just don't know which will be first.
While it's not new, the finishers are what was the best thing for me. I remember it in the old Punisher game. Then again in Sleeping Dogs. Mafia 3 goes there with gunplay and it's fantastically rewarding.
