That's something that Sean Murray had said over and over. He wanted people to experience HIS vision before making any changes. He also spoke of not wanting to charge for future updates and upgrades. So, the support was part of the plan. However, this base building and freighter owning was driven by community demand. It seems like they want to keep those that supported them and remained very happy.
Plus, who knows, with enough content and some price drops, people might return to s...

Now this reminds me a LOT of Subnautica. I hope that the new stations will open up new research. It would be cool to research new ship types, weapon types, etc. It will definitely extend some people's time with the game. Especially those that want to explore an entire planet...for whatever reason.

This was not part of their original plan. This is a feature that was driven by the community. They were more focused on exploring the quadrillions of planets and didn't consider that someone might want to settle down on one.

Yet, the team continues to improve it's game. Plus, if it really does improve the gameplay, it can be had for as little as $20. (Amazon had it for $10 on a fire sale) In the end, though there were definitely some issues, the pitchforks were a little overdone. Many AAA publishers have done the same, if not worse, than NMS. Ubi, Activision, Gearbox, and EA have misled with graphics, demos, and content. But, NMS bore the brunt of the ire.
IMO, it's fine if you felt burned. But,...

Pretty easy convo.
"Hey, should we support those people who had faith in our product and enjoyed it?"
"Sure. Why not?"
Game updates come to all sorts of games that people have "sold already". DLC is released for games that people have all but abandoned. It's not a new or novel concept. In fact, it tends to strengthen the customer base around the game and, sometimes, increase the profile of a game that was left for dead.

It was something that many of the people who purchased the game wanted. It was a common "complaint". My thinking is that people wanted the game to be like Subnautica (game based on underwater survival, exploration, and base building).
Personally, I'd rather they focus on more diversity and biodiversity of planets (which can be tweaked with their algorithm) because that is my favorite part of the game. But, I won't get all worked up over other changes.

Huh? You called???😁 Seriously, I can't wait either.

I don't know about the sense of speed and danger part. I searched out some crazy lines on my own where I was purposely on mostly rock and ice and extremely sloped....it was pretty crazy. The average lines are less so. But, I felt that they moved fast enough to work with the overall game and the balance that they wanted to reach with realism vs. arcade. I think we've just been conditioned to expect the over-the-top experiences for extreme sports. Many people felt the same about SKATE. ...

Well, I can't say that I disagree with the want for lower priced games. However, publishers are playing the free market game...and it's working for most of them. They exploit the early sales at the higher price (bigger margin for them). Then, when the price drops, they reap the benefit of the increased sales at a lesser margin. Essentially, it's a win-win for them. So, while $40 is the sweet spot for sales, there's nowhere to go for publishers who want to maximize profit when ...

What you are speaking about, in CoD, is the holy grail that the devs are chasing. It's a unicorn. It's not the norm. There are only a handful of franchises that are like that. But, as you said, they will eventually be surpassed.
There's something to be said about a franchise that extends beyond quality and starts to touch the pop culture phenomenon. Games like CoD, Halo, GTA, even as far back as Pac Man have reached that level of success where the name sells the game mor...

There's no 100% correct answer here. It's multifaceted. The release date was indeed poor. There was no breathing room. It's first release was an exclusive at a time where the console was looking for an exclusive shooter to fill the gap. The Beta DID turn some people off, even some diehards from the original. Titanfall is also relatively new and new to the PS4 audience. So, there's competition between the tried and true and the relatively unknown. Finally, I think the paradigm ...

Imo, the game is fun IF you like the sports involved. It's less arcade than SSX, but still lenient enough to pull off some tricks that might be harder to achieve in reality. I like the exploration aspect in finding the "hidden" spots on the mountain. Plus, I enjoyed finding my own, unique lines that weren't part of the created lines. Those can be some of the best challenges. As for the general runs, they have challenges of their own with a persistent online leaderboard. All ...

If you haven't played in the last 6 mons. to a year, you will see a LOT of changes. Anything beyond that, it might feel like a totally different game in some aspects.

Especially if they only tried it once. Warframe has changed significantly since it released on PS4. Hell. it's changed drastically in the last year. Most people just played a bit of their first character/weapons and threw it away. When there is so much more to it. Plus, it has a great FTP model. Everything you need you can get without paying real cash and having some patience.

Agreed. Plus, ET was made by one guy coding for a couple months. SM64 had a team. I give a lot of the early Atari games a pass because of the small to non-existent teams and the crazy crunch they were under.

Yep, there was a phishing scandal around the same time as the infamous PSN hack. This led to accnts. being compromised and people having real money stolen.

You have to remember that this generation was very different. The tech that Sony and MS wanted from day one was too expensive. So, they both settled. Because of the architecture, the PS4 doesn't have the hidden power of something like the PS3. There are only so many coding tricks, because it is way more straight forward than the likes of the Cell, and those are a known commodity due to PC sharing the same architecture. The Pro is more along the lines of what Sony wanted to release initial...

Even the drive is questionable because of a decrease in ownership of physical media, especially in the tech savvy crowd that the console is aimed at. But, as you said, it wouldn't have killed them to do it. All in all, though, I agree with your points. Imo, the did a great job of keeping it affordable and attractive enough to want...but no have to have. Which, imo, was the most important balancing act. They HAD to keep within earshot of the PS4 just to keep 45 million gamers from being re...

That's the very definition of a mid-gen. upgrade, to create something that is in the middle. IMO, it hits a sweet spot between new features and power, without completely outpacing it's predecessor. Thus, keeping the established base from being upset about not knowing about this strategy at launch. While Scorpio should outpace it, in terms of specs, there's still no guarantee that it will be able to do native 4K for everything either AND there is no price for it yet. The console in...

@Goldby...yes. I'm enjoying it so far.
