I would never suggest anyone get a laptop with a 940MX to game with, simply too underpowered for a lot of games - especially newer ones. You can get into budget PC gaming much easier if you build a PC, and even moreso if you utilize eBay for used parts.

For example, you can get a nice small form factor prebuilt PC with an i5-3470/4-8GB RAM/HDD/ for like $100-150 used and then snag a new low profile 1050ti for $160 or less, making a console-ish sized gaming PC for $250-300 t...

I feel your pain. I had some a certificate about to expire and a gift card, so I broke my rule of "only on sale" game purchases and preordered Horizon yesterday. Were it not for that, I likely would have waited. With examples like TLG & FFXV showing how new releases can go on sale (was it even a month before they slashed $20?), buying at launch is hard to justify - especially when a lot of games need a few patches to get up to snuff.

Don't get me wrong, I&...

Anyone interested in the Civ sale, Humble Bundle currently has a ton of Civ games (4, 5, most DLC, Beyond Earth, Rising Tide, etc) in a bundle for the next week or so which only costs $15 at the top tier for all of it. Beats the pants off this sale! Figured it was worth throwing out in case anyone saw this looking for some Civ action on the cheap.

There are some solid deals, but most are just average sale prices among a few cheap delights.

But honestly, it's really only hard to buy games at reasonable prices if you want it within the first month or so of release...or want a Nintendo 1st party game at literally any point in time - those guys appear to hate sales even years after launch. However, most new games slash $20 off after 1 to 2 months, half not long after in some cases, and 4-6 months might bring the game...

In the same boat my friend. Looking to replace my 2500k as well. Kicked around getting an Intel i7 for the extra cores that are becoming more useful in the big budget games, but held off the itch until Ryzen dropped.

If they are mature enough (drivers/no funny business with older x86 software/etc), I'd love to support AMD to get some fight back into the market. After we see some benchmarks from others & ensure there aren't any crazy snags given this is a whole n...

Kinda crazy you can buy 2 for the price of one Switch Pro controller. Not meant as a trolling or inciting comment, just something that is a bit bizarre to realize.

Also I think any coverage about how poorly they handled the ending completely trumped any amount of coverage saying the game was storytelling done right. Many people thought you couldn't really handle an ending to a story any worse than they did, and the ending is pretty damn important when discussing "storytelling done right".

So I have to agree, while people may like the characters and some of the lore, I don't think many would hold it up as a shining e...

Or...artistic license. Given your comment above, it seems your PC issue comes down to skin color of the not-previously-discussed-in-To lkien-lore character of "random fighter". And to that end, I shall point you to a quote given by Michael de Plater, game designer of the previous game, in 2014:

"The one I get frustrated with is, sometimes people say 'Oh, we haven’t seen exactly this thing before in Tolkien’s writings, we haven’t seen an exact example of t...

It's what the trailer said as well, so you don't have to take Kotaku's word for it :-p

That's a good question. My main playthrough was on the PS3 and I put in I believe 300 hours. I know there is still stuff to do, but I don't remember there being any Fallout 4-like "Minutemen" type regenerating quests in Skyrim. So I want to say it does have a limit but it's been so long since a legit playthrough (outside futzing around on the PC version for nowhere near 300 hours lol) I can't exactly say...but I do believe it has a finite number of quests before ther...

More like it doesn't take much for journalists to try and create "outrage" where there isn't any in order to drum up some clicks.

In a world where "literally" no longer even means literally (rather used to further hyperbolize hyperbole), all we have left is overwrought melodrama.

Similar to Wallstreet37, I have a 3D TV (LG 42") and recently got a 1080p projector that has DLP-Link 3D as well. I have only a couple of 3D movies though - the effect is fun, but it isn't mind blowing at home and the extra cost for 3D tends to not be worth it for me. I already have a pretty slim Blu-ray collection, but I'll be interested to try 3D out on my PSVR once the update hits. I feel the effect has the chance to be more pronounced & perhaps more entertaining...might g...

Interesting. It appears the author changed wording to be more neutral/balanced in tone since I don't see the quotes you pulled in there any longer.

To be fair, I don't think anything you highlighted was overtly negative - I think most people realize PSVR has some concessions to hit the price point it has & to be driven by the relatively modest power of the PS4 (considering the min spec for PC VR). The "die on the bush" bit is a bit negative, but there ...

Given it has no battery and is so large, I fail to see the point. And the article/YouTube comments are saying he's commanding $1,500 for this thing...and only for a slim! That's outrageous.

You could get a clip on screen and just attach that to a console and they would be quite a bit smaller and substantially cheaper. As large as those cases are, they look like they could literally just house a fully assembled PS4 within the casing. I guess it gives you the option f...

That's ballsy to a point I didn't think anyone would try...I mean, you almost expect maybe a couple might try to get some relatives in there, but 75%? Daaaang lol

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think this is the Big N's gambit for how to pivot as necessary for future console generations. As soon as the PS5 gen consoles land, Nintendo can repurpose the Switch as their handheld (they could already knock nearly $100 off the price if they take the dock & such out of their current bundle) and then launch a more powerful, dedicated home console *if needed*.

They could also potentially pull a Surface Book like move and chan...

@badz149 Yea, but even the "mobile" variants of nVidia draw significantly more power than a Tegra. Orders of magnitude more. A GTX 1050 mobile might be able to draw somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 watts (possibly more like 50) and Tegra - a chip which is an entire System on a Chip - draws in the neighborhood of 10 watts total. Obviously Nintendo is completely locked out of power like that if they want to remain mobile in a tablet sized device, only reaching laptop class parts if...

Well, except the one people would really like to know: what version of Tegra are you using? I'd like to know, but obviously the bottom line is simply can it produce a clean image at 1080p? It sounds like in handheld mode everything looks fantastic, but some games really suffer going to 1080p (mainly due to places like DigitalFoundry noting most games lacking sufficient anti-aliasing).

I'd also argue that while they've technically answered most of those questions...

You have to wonder if they took the feedback from the Mario Run pricing format and realized they needed to make changes to more align with the market. I can see them having believed the premium format would work well enough, but are retooling Animal Crossing for microtransactions. And boy, does that game seem well suited to that pricing format.

I have to imagine they know the profit/loss per console and what the average attach rate on software is to determine if taking the loss on the console would end up a net gain with software sales. I'm guessing those that held off long enough to wait for a price drop would be looking at only a handful of exclusives and that wouldn't have justified losing the $50-100 per console that they'd make on people who finally gave up waiting for that drop. They operate the exact same on their...
