Resolution & performance was a big thing before this gen - you'd have PS3 and 360 fanboys going over literally the most minor differences - minor pixel count variations or AA implementations - and lording it over one another. Then PCMR stomping in and claiming dominion...it feels very much the same this gen as it did the last. I don't think that's necessarily something you can pin on Sony/Cerny.
It's simply sad that people decide that rather than being f...
Calling 70+ million PSP's "hilariously destroyed" seems a bit...well, disingenuous anyway. Obviously Nintendo sold a vast number of DS units, but if anything that just proves to me that - as in the console space - multiple systems can co-exist successfully. Yea, the Vita wasn't great but it sold more than the Wii U and Nitnendo decided it was worth releasing the Switch into a market that already contained two established consoles with incredible head starts. So I don't t...
Secret Agent Clank released on the PSP alongside games like...drumroll...Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. MH is not a Nintendo exclusive series, it's just where they've decided their home is for now in the West. 3DS is where their largest userbase is in our neck of the woods, so it is basically the only platform the game gets translated and ported to it seems (unless Nintendo has some kind of US agreement?)
Games like Monster Hunter Frontier G/Z released on Vita (and a...
I, for one, think it sucks that Sony decided that the Sharpshooter was no longer supported - it does the exact same stuff! I read a few vague things on their reasoning behind it, but I can't quite understand how the Aim does the job any better. Maybe once I can use it for myself I'll understand why. I noticed the new one has a second analog stick which is a bit bizarre...I'll have to look into how other games plan to use that to understand its purpose.
It just s...
Honestly, it doesn't matter anymore. I think the majority of people have already gotten the games they want on super sale in previous years and their new sales never have any "oh my god, I just gotta buy it at that price!" kind of deals like they used to.
Just sign up at one of the deal sites (for example, Is There Any Deal), give em access to your Steam Wishlist/create list there, and be updated for the cheapest prices all over the web (and see how cheap it&...
Yea, it has a bit more meat to it now. When I first saw it, it just seemed kind of hollow and we didn't have a good handle on how good the motion controls would work. I'm still not sold just yet, but I have a bit more faith in it now - hopefully it can deliver. Having played Zelda and MK8 on my Wii U, I'm waiting on Big N to give me reasons to hunt for a Switch!
Side note: It is "piqued", not "peaked" interest. Just a PSA if you care, feel fr...
While the Vita was certainly the PSP2, if they do go for another portable it might not be a bad idea to go with a naming convention like PSP2. PSP probably still has a larger mindshare than Vita does (and likely more positive on the whole), so it might have better traction; not to mention we know companies tend to ditch brand names that haven't performed up to their expectations. Unless they really can make something akin to a portable PS4 and they can capitalize on the PS4's momentum...
I was pumped when I heard this existed...a little less pumped once I realized it was a Kickstarter initiative. However...
Though I've never once backed anything on Kickstarter, this finally feels like a time where the platform speaks to me. I loved Gitaroo and PaRappa, and to have the heads of both collaborating on a game that otherwise wouldn't exist? This feels like it might be worth the gamble for me.
Excellent rhythm games are hard to come by...
I'm not calling you out specifically, and I'm certainly in the "Gameplay > Graphics" camp (I enjoyed BotW on my Wii U), but given a fair amount of the time commenters would bring up the little differences between the Wii U & Switch versions of Zelda or Mario Kart or whatever port as reasons the Switch version was the "superior" version tells a bit of a different story. At least some Switch owners, anyway.
It shows that even some of them ar...
I don't think anyone is shocked that it isn't as powerful. Considering the TDP of the Switch versus the original current gen consoles, it can get impressively close. However, you sort of hit on the issue in your first couple lines: it is 100% Portable and 100% console. But if, as you state, portables are always weaker than consoles, can the Switch truly be 100% console given its inherent portable weaknesses?
If Nintendo released this as a dedicated handheld then the...
Obviously more power doesn't necessarily equal better gameplay. But on the flip side: less power doesn't mean better gameplay either.
Games can transcend their limitations, but rarely (if ever?) are they truly enhanced by them.
In terms of ports and remasters, they are a matter of course & happen everywhere. To wit: right now, the Switch's biggest game is a Wii U port in BotW. It's next biggest game? Mario Kart 8, a port. It's gett...
Not necessarily true. 5 years ago I bought an i5 2500k/MB/RAM/etc that I was using up until I got the upgrade bug a couple weeks ago. Build started with a mid tier card and then, a few years later, added a new GPU to the same core components. I could still very easily play 99% of all games maxed out at 1080p on that system. I really didn't need to upgrade yet but wanted a more travelable ITX setup (and, ya know, tech itch lol). But with consoles doing mid-gen upgrades now, it's not re...
Kinda funny you found one of the few 6/10's I've seen on this site. Others agree, sure. Of the current 37 PS4 reviews on Metacritic, 4 of them are 6/10. None of them are lower, the other 33 are 70 or higher. I'm not sure cherry picking one review proves you were right.
I have no dog in this fight though. I haven't played the demo, the game wasn't much on my radar and I don't have any strong urge to buy it. I think this game lacked the hype machine an...
I find this DLC to be rather meh...don't you besmirch the Abed name by "cooling" this mediocrity! :-p
I'm extremely underwhelmed by this smattering of content. Not only that, the first big feature is essentially horde mode - and combat is easily BotW's weakest point. So right now, the DLC is a pass. Half of those things should just have been included for free as a patch. I still detest they are locking everything behind a season pass. Let me choose what I want. If they think this is worth $7 bucks, let me buy the story DLC and whatever else for $13. I'm also shocked this rather me...
I think this just continues to show that people go where the playerbase is. I'm not trying to knock the game for its success, but it isn't an exceptional game that simply outdoes so many of its contemporaries.
But it is a solid game with a large enough playerbase to give buyers confidence they will always have someone to play against (a big gamble with indie/unknown/early access multiplayer focused games) and that it will likely continue to be supported/developed g...
People thought that 6 months to a year ago, and it still isn't. I think it'll be like Destiny - continued support for a while, mini purchasable extras and then The Division 2 will be announced a bit down the line. I don't see this game going F2P, but I could be wrong.
I agree. It is great in small doses, especially since they improved the loot system & useful gear drops are more plentiful. I still can't get into the gank-filled Dark Zone, but as a PVE loot-n-shoot, I've had fun. Looking forward to what the next 2 free DLC drops bring. Certainly a shame the game didn't launch in this state as I think public perception would have been much more positive (sadly seems a common theme with games these days).
I played the entire storyline, and about 50 hours or more to this point of the game overall. I cannot recall one time where I felt a nationality or skin color was just "shoehorned in" for diversities sake. Perhaps it was in a side mission I missed. I'd like to hear what you thought was forced tokenism.
(And I'm extra curious since this is a fictional game so many years in Earth's future that our current racial situation may have already homogenized fu...
@EDMIX I said 70+ as I saw different numbers from different sites, and saw 80 from VGChartz, a site I give varying credibility to. Not sure the value in bringing it up as it didn't alter my point (if anything it strengthened it). I think regardless of how many millions, we can agree it was many.
Obviously I know this is a very different landscape for handheld gaming - I wouldn't have included smartphones next to Nintendo in regards to Sony ceding the handheld market...
