The sense of entitlement or recognition you describe, is not a characteristic of a "hardcore" player, is a trait of a self absorbed one, where they believe their choice to do things "the hard way," should be met with special treatment. It seems more and more that people are using the phrase "hardcore gamer," to represent, well, essentially elitist assholes, who only play games to win, wouldn't dare play a game that isn't sk...

"Assuming everything is available from the get go and you don't need to meet any other requirements, what people spend hours upon hours to earn, little cocky underaged brat can get in seconds thanks to Daddy's credit card."

- So now dedicated "hardcore's" can't boast their achievements and stroke their epeen, because other players utilized an optional feature and obtained the same results hassle free? Get over you...

Burnout is my favorite race series and I hope a new title is coming soon. Leave the racing sims and other titles to racing fans/enthusiasts, I want to crash into things and have fun.

"This peripheral is supposed to convince people to pony up $100 extra while settling for a somewhat weaker console."

This is only half true. Yes, the Kinect is a factor for the higher price, but the information that xbox is the weaker console really only applies to enthusiasts, which most have made up their mind on which console to get months ago.

The majoirty of consumers aren't going to have a clue about the specs of each system or which conso...

"That's why MS needs to offer an XBOX One SKU without Kinect. Even if it did work well, many either don't want in or don't care. Have a Kinect free XBOX One for $400, and it would be far more enticing to many more gamers. "

- Sounds more like the problem is the added cost, not necessarily the included Kinect. If the X1 was the same $400 price as the PS4, yet still came with Kinect, would people still have a problem? On the opposite side, if X1 retained i...

He never said they die after a year, he said they "start dying." But your point about companies forcing inefficiency on consumers is correct - it's called "planned obsolesce," and it applied to virtually every consumer product on the market. There's no money in a product that lasts for years and years. You need the product to break down/fail so people keep buying them.

"Now, tell my why a proprietary battery designed to be irremovable is better than industry standard removable and available every where batteries?"

- Because PS4 has it and X1 doesn't, duh...

Seriously though, batteries are just one other option for players. The X1 offers both the rechargeable pack and wired options of the PS4 controller, plus 1 more. The only argument you could have against batteries, is if they were...

But I think the real argument is how much closer? How much difference, if any, will there be? I'm betting it won't be anything noteworthy - nothing like what some of the expectations from the "50% more power" PS4 crowd. I also don't think it will always be PS4 with the upper hand. Each console will be trading blows.

To each their own. Whether it be the dialouge, the story, the characters or even the art direction, I generally just don't enjoy Japanese (or Asian in general) games, not just jrpg's. Lost Planet, Resident Evil, Metal Gear, I have no interest in any of these - they all have a Japanese/Asian "feel" to them. I am a Western developer lover through-and-through.

How about a user friendly PC, with the ease of use and comfort that comes from console gaming, with the freedom and versatility of a PC? Essentially, an X1 or PS4 that allows users to install their own OS, upgrade and swap hardware, and do things other than play games or other entertainment activities - Essentially a PC/console hybrid. Sounds pretty amazing to me.

The biggest hurdle I see to overcome, will be

1) the brand loyalty already associated with Sony...

Personally, I could go the rest of my gaming life never touching a Japanese game. Sure, when I was younger they were cool, in part at least due their dominance in the market, but as I got older I found myself less and less interested in them, to the point of complete dis-attachment from them.

Of all the games that really made an impact on me in recent years, zero of them are Japanese - Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, Battlefield, Borderlands, Half Life, Starcraft, and even older ...

I never understood why people want to stand their consoles vertically. Like every console ever has been played horizontally - it just makes sense.

I have Gamely and a job, so the the free games on either system are whatever. Any game I wanted to play, I have, either rented it or bought it.

Also, the age of a game does not dictate its quality. It isn't the fact that MS is offering older games that is the problem, it's that they are offering mediocre games that happen to old. I can't comment on PS+, because I don't use it.

2. GTA

after that, I haven't played any of them long enough to care. I should be getting GTA V from Gamefly tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll even play it. I've been busy with Diablo 3.

I keep hearing noise from the Sony camp that xbox supporters are "grasping at straws," but overall, this isn't the case. If you are going by just what you see on N4G, then perhaps you should broaden your horizon... There's no need to "grasp" at anything. People are buying an xbox because that's what they want, same with PS4. The PS4 could cook you breakfast and give you a Swedish massage while paying your taxes, and many still aren't interested in it.

"Is the Xbum backwards compatible ? "

Essentially it is, since you can plug your 360 into the HDMI-in port. This can actually be better than playing via the cloud/Gaikai, due to not needing a internet connection.

You could argue that it isn't "true" backwards compatibility since you need the 360, but the same can be said for PS4 since you need Gaikai and/or an internet connection. "true" BC would be...

"That's the intake for the gigantic fan that blows down on the APU and RAM."

- I'm pretty sure the top fan is exhaust, not intake. The intake fans are on the sides. I have a gaming rig with top fans, and the setup is always intake from the sides/bottom and exhaust out the top, since heat rises.

Your choice of words are consistent with other anti-kinect rhetoric I've seen around here, like "waving your arms around like an idiot" or my personal favorite, "yelling at your TV."

You don't need to throw your head - you can just lean it.

You don't need to flail your arms - you can just move them.

You don't need to yell - you can just talk with your normal voice.
