It has nothing to do with whether 360 is powerful enough to render in 3D, it's that 3DTV's only accept a 3D signal over a HDMI 1.4 connection, or a HDMI 1.3 connection that has had it's firmware updated to allow for 3D transfer. Because Xbox 360 only has a HDMI 1.2 port, it cannot be upgraded. The only reason PS3's 1.3 can, is because the HDMI 1.3 standard actually has more bandwidth than PS3 is currently using even at 1080p, so it can send out higher frame rates without running out of bandwi...

Microsoft didn't bash 3D, they said they weren't doing it... because they can't. HDMI 1.4 is required for 3D (like I explained in my post above), and only 1.3 is capable of being upgraded to carry a 3D signal to a TV with a 1.4 jack on it. 360's HDMI 1.2 cannot be upgraded, so it's 2D only for 360 (or unless you use fake 3D from one of these TV sets, but as I also explained, don't expect to be blown away. not worth buying a new TV just for simulated 3D via a 360).

Edit: oops, re...

technically, there were NES games in 3D as well (there was a racing game with a 3D mode, forgot the name). But as the above poster said, it's about how good of a 3D effect you get. With previous 3D games, you either had the red-blue glasses which sucked and allowed for little to no color on the image, or you had shutter glasses that worked like crap with older tv's outputting at 60fps. I played ace combat on ps2 in 3d back at e3 2006, and the lcd shutter glasses didn't take long to give me a ...

HDMI 1.3 can output at 1080p in 3d as well, but the issue is the consoles can't render 2 1080p frames at once, so you won't get above 720p in 3d. When the 3d blu-rays start launching, they are encoded at 1080p in full 3d.

Xbox 360's HDMI 1.2 port is not compatible with 3D. An HDMI 1.4 compatible port is required to transmit 3d images to a TV. PS3's HDMI 1.3 can be upgraded to 1.4 (only the 3d aspects of 1.4 though, other features are not upgraded so it isn't a full hdmi 1.4 port ...

you guys are forgetting something about PS3... it has an entire SPE out of the 7 available set aside for the operating system and system functions (like eyetoy and pswand).

In other words, since day one, every PS3 game has been made using 6 of the 7 available SPEs. So, when the wand launches, there will be a 0% performance hit on the other 6 SPE's that are currently used for gaming, as the 7th will be the one taking the load for the camera/controller.

Also, the launc...

they do get annoying after a while. the nice cushioned earpieces would be cool. i'm currently using my pseye for chatting, so i wish i was able to enter to win one!

looks unplayable. notice they never show the person playing for more than a couple seconds before cutting away, at 32 seconds natal just freezes up and leaves the player sitting there wondering what happened, finally at the end of the video the player dies again and just walks away. didn't look like they were having a good time trying to wave their way through a level. there is also some serious input lag going on in this video... another fatal flaw of natal.

judging by your spelling, I doubt your math skills are all that great. and also judging by the way you claim ps3's slim model is another console... yeah. this dude isn't running on all cylinders.

how about stepping back for a second, and realizing that had the 2 consoles launched at the same time, judging by the rate they've both sold in the same time frame, PS3 would have outsold 360 by a wide margin. That even though 360 was on the market for a full year longer, PS3 has almost...

great racer, and i would have enjoyed it 100% more had turn 10 not put a sour taste in my mouth by trash talking gt at every opportunity rather than focusing on promoting their product's features. i guess when you don't have as many features, cars, etc. you have to do such things... but it still put a very bad taste in my mouth for that game.

actually, MS lost 7 billion $'s on the first xbox, then another billion on the RROD fiasco, so they still lose no matter how you look at it. Sony has also lost $, but nowhere near as much. They also won a format war with the PS3 that will make them BILLIONS more in the end off of blu-ray royalties than they ever lost with PS3, so it was more than worth it to them. Microsoft doesn't have any such thing to show for all the money they lost on Xbox.

if you want to touch on forza 3 sales, gt5 prologue, the "tech demo" for PS3, outsold forza 3 with a much smaller install base. what does that say?

he's actually right. both sony and microsoft (and nintendo as well) all track the sell through to retailers, not to us. they do not sell consoles to us, they only sell to retailers like wal mart and best buy. so, 30 million sold means that those retailers have bought 30 million ps3's from sony. it is still 30 million sold to sony, as that's who they sell to.

6015d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

actually, europe is gt5 territory. and to the post above, yes, it will.

with more sold, sony will have more money to invest in more big budget blockbuster games like uncharted 2. it also will strengthen competition, which will lead to the others having to fight harder to keep their place. this will lead to microsoft and nintendo releasing better games and services to compete... so it's a win/win for everyone.

um, they actually already tried that tactic... with the elite dropping to $300 when slim did, and also when walmart gave $100 off of the 360. neither was able to stop ps3's domination.

no, the gap between ps3 and 360 is 5.7 million, just like the article says.

Now the 360 fanboys will come into the thread fuming about how much vgchartz sucks, ad nauseum.

Even if the numbers were a couple hundred thousand low, it will have crossed 30 million by christmas. We all should congratulate Sony in achieving what nobody ever thought they would this soon. Nobody would have ever imagined them closing the gap with 360 to less than 6 million, and if they keep up their pace they will have it down to less than 5 million by the end of their fiscal yea...

We could have thrown in the london track from gt5 prologue and blown forza away, but we figured we'd at least be nice and keep both tracks bland. and yes... we mention it is a demo. a 220mb one at that.

you can also tell it was thrown together, because there is no tire smoke or anything (which is in prologue, even gthd). this is why sony specifically said "this demo is to show off the physics".
